Finishing up the movie

I started watching the movie this weekend but fell asleep. Has anyone started comparing the movie with the book. I got about half way through the movie and I seen a few things that were different that I really liked. Since I really enjoyed the book, I have decided to write my paper on it for next week. Any one else writing on this book? Any one writing the free spirit paper, I think that is super hard unless you are creative. Therefore I am definitely doing the traditional paper and this time I will remember to cite my source.

I didn't catch much about the mother and why she left until we went over a little bit of it in class. I definitely agree about the kid, but I thought he was super brave. I honestly don't think I could have kept walking and starving like they do. I am about to watch the movie and see how the boy's character in the book compares to the movie!

Getting ready to watch the movie! I am eager to find out what differences the directors of the movie changed and what their intentions were! I hope to write and get some extra credit. Is anyone else doing the extra credit assignment. I found the novel interesting when I read it but i didn't realize how many small things I missed when I read the novel. When we go over it as a whole in class I feel it makes much more sense. Off to watch the movie and hopefully I will like the movie as much as I did the book!

Last of the Goon Squad!!

This book was awful. The weaknesses definitely outnumbered the stregnths. The weaknesses I found in this book were switching point of views each chapter, bouncing back and forth time periods, thousands of characters to keep up with, the book does not really give you closing, and there are probably several more I can't think of right now. The one strength I can remember is if you skipped a chapter you weren't completely lost, because each chapter was written from a different person. Unfortunately, overall I found this book to be a waste.

I have started reading “The Road” and honestly, if I didn’t have to leave and go to work, I think I would have kept reading until I was done. I’m not even that far into the book, and it’s already got me hooked. It’s mysterious and definitely has my attention unlike “The Visit From the Goon Squad.” Can’t wait to get off work, cuddle with my puppy and keep reading!!

I agree!! I read the novel in one day. I just couldn't put the book down, I wanted to know more! I couldn't figure out how it was postmodern though? Any ideas?

I can't wait to watch the movie. With all the assignments I have I still haven't had a chance though. I won't be able to watch the gory parts either. And I definitely couldn't imagine putting myself in that situation. Whether it is better to keep going or just give up!

Hmmm.. well I posted this map on the 4th and if I recall correctly, up to chapter 12 was supposed to be completed by the 2nd.. Therefore, I felt it okay to post about chapters that were already supposed to have been completed.

The Road

Has anyone started reading The Road yet?? I started reading it yesterday and I had to keep reading. I finished the whole novel in one day. I have to say it was the best book I have read all semester! It was not confusing and didn't have a billion points of views or characters to remember! I just do not know how it relates to post modernism. Hope when you start reading it you enjoy it as much as I did. I think it was a great novel to save for the last reading.

So this gif is how I feel after finishing the novel. I do not like the way it ended. What was the whole point in it? It was just a book of random characters with no endings for them. What the heck. I thought the last chapter would tie things together but instead it just confused me even more. I hope Professor Clark will make everything clear and tell us the purpose of it. Because as of right now I feel like reading it was a waste. I don’t understand the point of it?? Does anyone else feel this way?

I felt the same way? I was not sure what the last chapter meant? I can't wait until Professor Clark reviews so I can make some sense of it.

I agree I noticed chapter 12 too! I was kind of excited to find out Sasha and Drew got married and had kids. I'm not sure if he isn't around because it kept saying if dad was here! I am eager to finish the last chapter to see if it closes or just leaves the reader hanging??

Almost done reading

As I am finishing reading the last 2 chapters of the novel, I am reminded of the last novel we read with all the pictures and sayings. That part seemed similar to me even though I don't know exactly what it means. I am confused about from why the story jumped from Ted and Sasha in Naples to Sasha being married with kids. The narrator of chapter 12 Sasha's daughter. I am eager to finish the book to see if all of these confusing characters relate to one another.

I started reading our new novel and so far i have only made it to chapter 2&1/2 :). So far the story seems to be interesting. Out of what I have read so far it is about a woman who finds joy in stealing things from people. She is an assistant to some music producer maybe? I think the story kinds of flashbacks a little but I am not certain yet. I am looking forward to discussing these first few chapter so I can get a better understanding as I continue to read on. Has anyone found any POMO in it yet?

I think that what stood out to me as far as POMO is how in each chapter, the narrator discusses different characters, mainly focusing on one’s individual story. For instance, the first chapter was the story of Sasha, and the second about Bennie. I also think that another element of POMO is how the author brings up the subject of sex and drugs throughout the chapters.

Treading through this novel so far? It’s not that it is necessarily boring, I just feel like I am having a hard time getting completely into it. I feel like I’m pretty behind as far as the reading goes, and I think it’s because I have to keep going back and checking on which characters are which….

I am completely with you! I have never read so many chapters over before! I am running behind, but the book isn’t that bad. I look forward to the class discussions because I always tend to miss out on something of some sort. I keep wondering then when we switch point of views, are the time frames all over lapping in some way or are we changeling views as time continues to move through the future. I am behind too and no matter how hard I try to keep up or catch up it is impossible! My favorite chapter so far would be chapter 6 where Scotty brings Bennie the dead fish. For some reason I can't get over how funny it is especially after I realized the east river wasn't even a river us would think about eating from. And the chapter I disliked the most was the safari chapter, there was way too much going on in that chapter

I noticed that too! There were so much bad things going on and not too many good. The thing that bother me was finding out bennies son shot himself! I was like really?? Overall the story has been good but I always look forward to the class meetings because I always miss something. Maybe the ending will turn out better
