*tries not to wince at the way his cousin so bluntly states those facts since they are pretty accurate. Two years is quite late and there’s no way a visit from the Mathis will make it any better*
*as for getting a move on…well, that one’s no brainer now* “…I’ll go to Lurondo see them myself.”
"That's the spirit. You'd make dear Auntie and Uncle proud."
*can… say nothing against that last bit since, for once, Baran makes sense. Jude did show uncertainty because of him just now and he’s got no one else to blame for that but himself*
*speaks up after a moment of thoughtful silence* “Do you think it’s… too late to do that?”
*looks up from his work* "What? To tell his parents?"
"Well... You've definitely won yourself a stay in the proverbial dog house tonight. As for announcing your intentions to Dr. Mathis and his wife... I have to say you're about two years late, aren't you?"
"I'd say you get a move on unless you want to put Jude off the idea of marrying you."
"I am confident I can make it work! I just…”
"I just… don’t want to cause him unhappiness or further strain his relationship with his dad. They only recently came to an understanding after all."
"It doesn't sound like you are." *pulls out a particular file and starts working through the pages in there*
"I mean, if you were confident about it, then letting Jude's parents know should have been priority. The sooner you inform them and handle the situation, the sooner you can start being happy."
"Dragging your feet in doing something so obvious, and honestly something so important, seems counterproductive. You would just prolong the anxiety and worry that comes with it. Plus, you pass it on to the person you've chosen to be with and just gave him something else to be unhappy about."
*winces visibly* “W-well… I know I didn’t…”
"And that it’s something I need to fix…"
"Just… what if, y’know? I don’t want to lose Jude nor be the cause of him losing his parents.”
"Oh." *bluntly* "So you're not confident the two of you can make this work."
"I did think it out before I proposed.”
"I just… wanted to meet his parents on my own terms instead of his dad making that decision."
"Don't you think you've left that a little bit delayed?"
"Last you've mentioned this, you haven't even told the good doctor you were dating his son."
*would stop Jude from going again, but with what his partner said and how he’s looking at him, he doubts anything he would say would make a difference right now.* “Okay.”
*stares at the door for a long moment before he hangs his head* “…I screwed up big time.”
*puts down his cup onto his desk and smiles* "You sure did."
*Starts looking through some of the files Jude brought in earlier* "You practically declared you weren't ready for this right there and then. Which does make me wonder if you properly thought this out before you made your proposal."
*is already experiencing one of those repercussions he doesn’t want* “Wait, Jude!”
*hastily places the GHS down on the first flat surface available before hurriedly grabbing his partner’s wrist to keep him from going back to work* “I’m sorry. You don’t need to call your dad to reschedule at all.”
"It’s fine." *promptly pulls his hand away* "You don’t have to force yourself."
*glances over to Baran* “I’ll leave him in your care, Baran-san. I still have a few things to do with Maki-san.”
*looks at Alvin again* “We’ll talk later.” *doesn’t wait for a response and walks out of the room*
*now sitting at his desk and just waves at Jude in confirmation of his request while he continues to sip at his coffee*
*Nooo! He was too late!*
*and unlike his cousin, he can’t walk away so easily, especially with his…future father-in-law on the other end of the line*
*adjusts his glasses* “Rough-housing? At work? On the clock?”
"Did that bad influence follow you or Baran to work?”
"And I called because Baran sent me an urgent text message stating that he was being…manhandled. He also mentioned something else equally concerning."
*glances over at Alvin again* “Well… No, he’s usually here to pick me up. Usually…”
"Everything’s fine now. The two of them have stopped though… May I ask what else was so concerning in Baran-san’s message?"
*tops his coffee up and slurps at this comfortable distance~*
*regardless of the face his cousin’s making, Alvin is FOREVER BLAMING HIM FOR THIS*
*even more so now that Jude grabbed the GHS away from him* “No, wait, Jude! That’s your fathe—!!!”
*taken aback when his son answers the phone and just listens while he finishes the long, professional introduction*
”Jude? What is going on there?”
"And free from what? Being manhandled by certain questionable mercenaries?”
*since he’s already on the GHS, he doesn’t notice Alvin’s warning and hears the familiar voice* “F-Father?”
"Er…" *glances over the two culprits* "… I guess Alvin and Baran were rough-housing just now… and then Baran’s GHS started ringing so I ended picking up."
"What made you call?" *doesn’t know about the texts after all*
*clearly since Jude-kun is handling the situation so well, he walks away towards the other end of the room to get more coffee*
*ignores the alert too since he’s trying to not panic more* “Then don’t SEND things when you’re obviously busy!!”
*—except that Jude’s father isn’t so forgiving as to just let it be, if the ringing GHS is anything to go by; holds it at arm’s length with obvious alarm* “And WHY are you letting me pick up your call!!? You’re the reason why he's calling!!”
*taps his foot as the phone rings…and rings…and rings…”
"If this some of that ingrate’ chicanery…" *taps on the scalpel in his pocket*
*really doesn’t understand what’s going on here… but that GHS is just being left to ring*
*strides forward and takes the device from Alvin’s hand and picks it up before reading the caller ID unfortunately* “Hello, this is Jude Mathis answering on Supervisor Baran’s behalf. I’m afraid he’s occupied at the moment. May I take a message and he will call you back as soon as he’s free?”
*mutters against his cup* "Uhoh..."
*makes a face at Alfred as CLEARLY that was not his idea or his fault~*
*would be more concerned about Jude’s outcry if he wasn’t so worried about the questions he asked of his cousin. Though, his cousin soon presents him his GHS and, with its screen in his face, the brunet turns deadly white at the very name on top of it*
*snatches the GHS and starts properly reading it, becoming even more restless and panicked the more he reads* “WHY did you send him that?!”
*drums his fingers while he waits and sends another message*「Baran? Is this some sort of joke? 」
*waits a while longer, clueless to the antics going on*
"This is getting ridiculous." *dials Baran’s number*
"Well, I was trying to send it to Jude-kun." *ignores the device in Alfred's hands as it makes another alert, and he walks away towards Jude's direction* "But one's hands can get a little unstable when upset or being manhandled."
*Only for the GHS to start ringing* "And that's probably for you."
*places a hand on Jude's shoulder to keep him from approaching any further* "Um... you best stay here with me, Jude-kun, and let Alfred take care of this."
"Uh-oh what?"
*though, soon realizes his cousin can’t speak like this and removes his hand— to start shaking him instead* “Uh-oh what?! WHO’D YOU SEND IT TO AND WHAT’D YOU WRITE?!”
*glances down when he feels that new fangled GHS in his pocket ringing and holds it up to get a better look at the screen*
"Hmm…it seems to be a message relayed in text form." *fiddles with it a bit before getting to the message itself* "Ah, from Baran." *starts reading*
"…………………………………………………………"
*starts typing response*「Do you…need someone to come? And should your cousin’s perversely concerning proclivities turning to crossdressing concern me? 」
"Alvin!" *sets down the files to the closest table and walks over to the duo*
*gets shaken a bit more while he tries to balance his coffee in the other hand, only for his GHS to go off with a small alert...* "...Uh oh." *doesn't even read the contents and flips the GHS towards Alfred's face so he can see the contents*
*calmly sips his poor luke-warm coffee*
*a little taken aback by how Jude wasn’t paying attention for once and is a bit at loss, but won’t complain about this freepass* “Oh, uhh… Never mind the—”
*—except he notices suspicious and alarming activity from his cousin, but sadly didn’t catch what was written so much as something got sent* “Baran, what’d you just send? To who??”
*blinks and looks at Baran, then at Alvin cause apparently something was sent from Baran’s GHS to…*
*…who?*
*Waits for a reaction from Jude, or at least a ring from his GHS but, is instead greeted with nothing* "....?"
*looks down and checks the message* "....mh."
*muffled since Alfred hasn't removed his hand from his mouth* "....muh-oh."
"Stop that!!" *covers Baran’s mouth*
"Jude, please don’t listen to Baran!"
*Actually, he stopped paying attention to the two of them quite a while back now since this was almost a normal sight to encounter when it came to these two* “….”
"I… don’t really understand what the two of you are doing."
*Well, since Alfred has his mouth covered, he whips out his GHS with his free hand and quickly types a message*「Help. Being Manhandled. PS: Alfred said he wants a wedding dress.」 *immediately presses send*
*urk!*
*hastily answers* “No. It means I’ll strap you down to your office chair and make sure you don’t move since you’ll obviously ‘hurt’ yourself.”
"...Alfred."
"I was not aware you were into that type of play. Does Jude-kun know?"
*turns around* "Juuuuude-kun~ Listen to this~! Alfred said--"
*whispers back again* “Did you want me to treat you like an infirm then?”
“Does that mean you'll start to treat me gently, my dear cousin?”
*whispers back harshly* “Medical jintech or no, you don’t count as a handicapped person if you’re standing up perfectly fine.”
*whispers back calmly* “And I'll have you know I have official paperwork and medical texts as well as Jude-kun's opinion to prove you otherwise.”
