Franz Kafka: The Drawings

Four of the small ink drawings Kafka made during his student days and their envelope. This particular series of drawings was cut from a larger notebook by Max Brod and placed into envelopes for safekeeping. Six of them were published in the 1930s, but these four have never been published before.

antivilla house/ studio built through renovating an abounded underwear factory. demolishing the other building would have been extremely expensive and there were many building regulations in place so they had to get creative. the factory was brick and they went over it with mortar and lime to create the finish we see today. the main concern with this project was temperature control and their solution was to use these curtains. they’re used to section off parts of the house to collect pockets of heat. there were pipes installed in the floors to help heat the house. using curtains was an interesting choice because you get to decide the layout of your own house depending on your needs at a particular time. When the architects were asked about the project they responded. “not a mere physical upgrade of the outer shell, but instead it questions the mandatory standards and current building regulations by proposing a new understanding of architecture and their environment.”

The Anti-Villa is something I looked at in the first sem of spad. I kept thinking about how they used curtains in place of walls to keep the heat in. Looking into materials for my bathhouse I wanted to adapt this idea of instating the bathhouse with curtains instead of walls. The curtain has the shape and effortless flow of water, and I believe it will look even more beautiful in the water. Like how hair flows under the water. I think that the lightness of these curtains will give the illusion of a bigger space.

I had an idea in studio because of one of my classmates materials. I saw these on the desk and I thought they looked like chair backs. I got my 1:10 model and cut them to the size of my chairs. I then removed of the handles and placed them next to my table. I quite like them, they’re really cute and resemble my cushion well.

my prototype booklet, might be my final one. Printing is not my mate today. Hoping for the best, wen to the book bindery and stitched my booklet
