These people play a role of therapist and they chat with you and help you through tough times. This is specially imp for kids who have parents that invalidate their mental health and are not willing to let them seek help.

In Defense of Touka Kirishima

Technically, I did defend Touka before, but it was pure shit. So here’s a better defense.

Reasons for being hated:  Useless, emo, crybaby, ugly, abusive towards Kaneki, tsundere, flat, no character development

Useless

Seriously? Had she not taken care of Ayato on the streets and fought off Tsukiyama and other ghouls, he would’ve died. Had she not gone to school, she wouldn’t have tried to keep her brother or herself safe. Had she not been friends with Yoriko, she would’ve hated humans completely. Had it not been for her, the CCG would’ve gotten Hinami when she was 14 after killing her mom. And had it not been for her, Mado would’ve killed Hinami. Had it not been for her, Nishiki would’ve probably killed Kaneki. Had it not been for her, Kaneki would’ve killed Hide. Had it not been for her, Hinami wouldn’t have had a loving home after her mom’s death. Had it not been for her, Nishiki and Kaneki would’ve both been killed by Tsukiyama. 

Emo

She’s not really emo, in my opinion as emo isn’t really a thing in Japan as it is in the west. It’s just her hair. And how’d you feel if you had to take care of your sibling on the streets?

Crybaby

At least she doesn’t cry that much, IMHO.

Ugly

I don’t think she’s ugly, personally. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. She especially looks beautiful in this picture here!

Abusive towards Kaneki

It’s true, she was a little abusive towards Kaneki, but after being on the streets for a few years after her father’s death and having come tact in tact with some strange ghouls, would you expect her to trust Kaneki? Besides, she’s actually learned to care for Kaneki.

Tsundere

She’s not a tsundere, really. Just gets too distrustful of strangers, that’s all.

Flat/ No Character Development

Oh, please. At first she didn’t trust humans until she met Yoriko. And she first thought revenge was a-ok until she realized that Mado had a family. And she tried to get into Kamii just so she could understand ghouls. Not to mention, she was a bit distrustful of Kaneki at first, but then she really grew on him.

In conclusion, Touka isn’t a bad character. She’s actually one of the most developed characters in Tokyo Ghoul. And here’s another reason to not hate her:

Author’s Note: This wasn’t meant to become anything more than a small ficlet, but then it did end up becoming something more. And in a different writing style from my previous fics.

Additional Note: Ficlet series? Yeah, that’s cancelled. Also, I had to cut a good portion of this part so that it wouldn’t be too long and it will flow straight into part six. Trust me, it’s worth it. ;)

“He’s basically stalking Touka.” Nishiki said to Yomo, who stood behind the counter stoned faced, but his eyes immediately fell on Touka.

Touka’s jaw clenched and she gave a dirty look to Nishiki for opening his mouth. “Remind me again why I haven’t fired you?”

“Hey, if anything I should be the manager around here.” He quipped.

Touka drew out a heavy sigh. She didn’t want Yomo to know too much because even she didn’t know what was really going on. But Yomo looked affected by what Nishiki had told him.

Why do you like Touken? When was the time that you first like them? What makes them your favourite couple? Dynamic between them? :)

I’ve shipped them since this shot :o

This is the first time I eversaw Touka, but knowing my own anime habits all too well, I immediately could tellfrom her character design that she was going to be my fave and that I was goingto ship her with the main character. Everything that followed fell into mypredictions all too perfectly.

In my shipping experience, the pairings that always penetrate most deeply into my heart are:

Friendly person melts the heart of unfriendly person

Person from another world teaches normal person thrust into that world how to operate in it

Two people whose relationship inspires mutual positive character growth

Two people whose presence change the others’ whole life and outlook on the world

Touken ticked all of these categories and had the added bonus of being canon af. Touka helped Kaneki adjust to the Ghoul world, helped him become a much stronger person, and was the one to finally make him realise that he is loved. Kaneki coaxed Touka out of her defensive shell, helped her become a kinder and wiser person, and likewise, made her realise that she too is loved.

I adored their chemistry from the start; Touka was so tough, cool and scary while Kaneki was being totally innocent, dorky and sweet. I shipped them so bad in the Anteiku arc, and then the Shironeki arc injected the ship with some absolutely heart-rending and wonderful angst that only made it even better. THEN we have the Haise arc and got to witness Kaneki falling in love with her all over again through the veil of lost memories, in much more explicit crush form and the long-famed cuteness of a coffee shop romance doubled up with the angst that Touka feels in not being able to tell him the truth. AND THEN the Reaper arc and the “See you later” and Touka beginning to reverse Kaneki’s decision to die AND THEN they are finally reunited and together and then they talk it all out and realise how deeply they love each other and make STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL AND MEANINGFUL LOVE AND GET MARRIED AND HAVE A BABY AND NOW TOUKA IS SPEARHEADING A MISSION TO SAVE HIM ONE LAST TIME AND WHAT IS IT THAT’S GOING TO SAVE KANEKI - THE RING. THE SYMBOL OF THEIR LOVE IS GOING TO SAVE HIM FROM THE DEEPEST OF TRAGEDIES. 

*Ahem*

So yep, that’s why I love Touken. It’s like five different, equally awesome ships wrapped into one, and the parallelism of their story arcs adds a whole new level of nuance into their relationship.

It’s a love so strong it overcomes the story’s very genre.

Since Suzuya was able to spot the ring during their fight underground then that means that, even though we didn’t see it in any panels for a while, Kaneki still continued to wear it. He probably wore it whenever he went out to the surface (and all the time around the base too!).

He continued to wear it just as he said he would, so that he could think of Touka even whenever they were apart from each other.
