As the last of the group left, Mira knew she should have followed them back to the tents, instead of staying behind and letting her eyelids grow heavy as she listened to the peaceful ripple of the waves. Once upon a New Years. Mira attempted to ignore the shiver down her spine at the memory, leaning back on her elbows to stare up at the stars. “ Mm. I… might happen to recall that. Alright, what are you in the mood for ? Vain queens, magical labyrinths, doomed heroes ? ”

“That’s a lot to choose from,” he admitted. Looking up at the sky Levi realized just how many were visible when you were away from light pollution. His gaze remained on the stars for a moment longer before he finally looked to Mira. “Do you have any favorite constellations?”

“I have fantastic coordination, thank you,” Myles insisted, although she didn’t even believe her own words. “Besides, if my aim is bad it won’t go anywhere near your face anyways,” she laughed. “Come on, have a little faith in me! Show me what you got.”

“I’m going to hold you to that,” he grinned and then pointed to her with his free hand. “Well I’ll take that as a reassurance of sorts,” Levi considered, chuckling. “Alright, alright I’ll try and have some faith,” he gave in before serving the volleyball over to her, “Heads up!”

“ When was the last time I even went outdoors for more than ten minutes ? The ski trip ? I need to get a gym membership, ” Adrian admitted between ragged breaths on their hike. “ Does HQ training still kick ass ? ”

“I’m hearing a lot of complaining back there– use that energy on hiking instead of running your mouth,” Levi teased. When he reached a bit of a break in the incline, Levi decided to stop to wait up for Adrian. “They switch it up every few weeks or so, but yeah I’d say it does.”

“Does most of your family fish or just your grandad?” Emma asked as she took the rod from him. “I have, but I’m not too great at it. The only thing I’ve ever caught are some weeds.” She admitted, 

“My whole family definitely knows how to, but my lolo is... the og in way?” Levi chuckled slightly. “Yeah he’s taught anyone who’ll listen,” he mentioned. “Some weeds? Definitely takes talent,” he teased lightly. “So are we fishing for dinner or catch-and-release-ing?”

“We’re never sending them out for firewood ever again, deal?” Levi looked to Emma, still unable to believe why they had to be out searching for more wood. “Uh, maybe we should grab a few more bigger pieces just to be safe?”

“I nearly gave one of my employee’s a heart attack when I said I was going out for sun. I don’t think they have ever heard me say that before.” He admitted with a light grin. “I hope that whatever your friends have been going through is resolving itself. And… well I suppose that was part of it too…” Though he wouldn’t have quite put it as bluntly as Levi had. Still, he deserved it.

“I can only imagine,” Levi couldn’t help the snort that followed Reuben’s comment. “It’s a once in a blue moon kind of event after all, isn’t it?” he added teasingly. “I appreciate that,” he smiled softly. “I seem to be in the clear. Let’s hope it stays that way,” Levi shrugged slightly.

“Superheroes hardly have that many interactions with skunks right?” Ronnie asked, peaking out from behind him to look at it, “We don’t have any tomato juice,” She pointed out and then snorted, “Adrian would be more difficult about the situation than Shadow,” She pointed out, trying to joke but really not wanting to get spray, “Do you think we could like corner it or make it turn in the other direction.”

“I guess not,” Levi kept speaking to Ronnie while having his eyes glued to the black and white animal, weary of its next move. “You’re probably right about that,” he let out a snort of his own, watching the skunk’s tail twitch slightly at his and Ronnie’s laughter. “Turning the other direction and distracting it could possibly work? Like... if we could throw something far behind it– do you think it’d go check out the noise?”

“I don’t know any, I don’t know what you expect me to do about that?” Noah shrugged, “I have sure but I don’t find a lot of them that scary really. Or maybe I’m just not a good storyteller.”

“You know most of them are made up– can’t you make one up on the spot?” he asked. “Well that’s a bummer,” Levi added with a frown. “Maybe there’s something else we can do?”

“We haven’t even gotten to the top yet and I can already tell this is a terrible idea,” Levi grumbled as the two hiked up one of the cliffs overlooking the water. “Like... I used to watch people do this when I was a kid but I never actually did it. You know we could die right?”

It took Levi a moment to realize the group had dispersed from the beach leaving him and Mira alone, looking out at the night sky. It also took him a beat before he spoke up. It was still tense between the but he couldn’t just deal with the silence. Not anymore. “So... you mentioned something about loving the mythology behind the constellations once upon a New Years?” Levi spoke out to the water, not looking over to Mira quite yet. “Care to share any of those stories?”

“Have you ever fished before?” Levi asked as he began putting some of the bait on the ends of their hooks. “I used to fish a lot during my family trips to the Philippines. I mean I’d fish in Australia too but, my grandpa on my mom’s side who taught me,” he explained before handing over one of the fishing rods to her.

“Please tell me you have good hand-eye coordination,” Levi said, volleyball in hand ready to serve it to the brunette. “I’m not so sure I’d appreciate a volleyball to the nose today– or ever, but especially today. Did we even bring a first aid kit on this trip?”

“I’m pretty sure we’re supposed to row in tandem for this to go anywhere,” Levi said to Jude who sat in the canoe right in front of him. For some reason the two weren’t quite skilled in creating a rhythmic rowing pattern. “Okay let’s try this again– paddle down and around, down and around.”

“All our years of training never covered something like this,” he admitted, standing wearily in front of Ronnie as he eyed the wild animal. “Okay well... what are we supposed to do? Douse it in tomato juice? No no– we’re supposed to bathe in that if we get sprayed. Uh... any suggestions to get rid of it? I don’t want it coming into our camp... Adrian or Shadow will definitely get sprayed.”

“What’s the point of coming to a camping trip if you can’t tell ghost stories? Or... any story? Like... haven’t you seen a horror movie or anything in your lifetime? Many people just retell those and pass ‘em off as their own scary stories.”
