I don’t know if you guys realize this, but every time Dean takes his shirt off, he’ll have to see that. A physical reminder, clear as day, that Cas gripped him tight and raised him from perdition.

That Cas rescued him.

That Cas loved him.

That no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t save the one who saved him. He was helpless, powerless, and now Cas is gone, and as far as Dean’s concerned, he ain’t ever coming back.

So screw the trenchcoat. It’s not like Dean’s gonna wear it; the writers weren’t even gonna have him keep it.

It’s the handprint that’s gonna kill him.
