Levi x Fem reader Chapter 5
The bar didn't change.
It never did.
The same cracked tables. The same dim lights. The same low hum of voices and quiet deals being made in corners no one asked about. The Underground didn't move forward - it just continued.
You sat in your usual spot, one leg hooked over the side of the chair, a glass resting untouched in your hand.
You didn't take a single sip.
Your eyes drifted to the entrance again.
Then away.
Then back again.
"Tch."
A week.
Seven days of thinking.
Seven days of telling yourself the answer was obvious.
Seven days remembering things you had spent years trying to bury.
Your fingers tightened slightly.
Military Police.
Secrets.
Your parents.
Your jaw clenched.
If there was even the smallest chance of the joining the Scouts could get you closer to the truth -
Then maybe it wasn't as pointless as you wanted to believe.
"...Just information," you muttered under your breath. "That's all."
Not loyalty.
Not belief.
Just answers.
And maybe -
Your gaze flickered upwards, as if you could see through the layers of stone to the world above.
"...a way out."
The entrance door shifted.
You didn't look immediately.
But you knew.
The room shifted with them - subtle, but noticeable. Conversations dipped. Eyes turned.
Outsiders.
Clean.
Out of place.
Boots stepped across the worn floor.
Then stopped.
"Y/N L/N."
Erwin's voice was as calm as ever.
You finally looked at them.
Erwin stood before you, composed yet unreadable.
Beside him, hands in his pockets, expression already annoyed -
Levi.
"...Took you long enough," you said.
Levi scoffed. "We said a week."
"Yeah," you replied, leaning back slightly. "Doesn't mean I have to enjoy waiting."
Around you, your people had already started shifting - subtle movements, protective instincts kicking in.
You didn't take your eyes off of the two men.
"...Out."
A pause.
One of them hesitated. "Y/N -."
"I said out."
This time, there was no room for arguments.
Chairs scraped. Quiet mutters. Reluctant steps.
They filed out, casting wary looks over their shoulders until the bar was empty once again.
The door fell shut.
Silence.
You set your glass down. "Alright," you said. "Ask."
Erwin didn't waste time.
"Have you made your decision?"
For a moment -
You didn't answer.
Your gaze dropped briefly to the table, fingers tapping once against the wood.
Hesitation.
Small.
But real.
Levi noticed.
"If it's a no, just say it," he muttered. "Saves everyone's time."
Your eyes flickered to him.
"You really don't want me to say yes, do you?"
Levi met your gaze evenly. "Doesn't matter what I want."
"Tch."
You leaned back again, exhaling slowly.
"You're right about one thing," you spoke. "I don't trust you. Any of you."
Erwin didn't interrupt.
"But...." you continued, quieter now. "I want answers."
Levi's eyes narrowed slightly.
You looked at Erwin, raising one of your eyebrows.
"There is something up there of my interest. Something I need to know."
A beat.
"You said you needed strength," you added. "Well, I need information."
Erwin held your gaze. "And you believe that you will find that with us."
"I believe that I won't find it staying here," you replied.
Silence stretched between them.
Then -
"...Fine."
Levi blinked once.
Hange wasn't there to react - but the shift in the room was noticeable.
You straightened slighlty.
"I'll join your silly little Scouts."
Levi exhaled sharply through his nose. "Tch."
But she wasn't finished.
"On one condition."
Erwin nodded once. "Continue."
Your expression hardened again - less hesitation now. More certainty.
"I come back here," you said. "Regularly."
Levi frowned. "That's not how - "
"I'm not done," you cut in.
His eyes narrowed, but didn't interrupt again.
"I don't disappear just because I put on your uniform and join your titan-killing squad," you continued. "This place - these people - they're not disposable."
Your voice sharpened slightly.
"I check in. I make sure things don't fall apart. And when I can - I bring back supplies. Food. Medicine. Whatever I can get my hands on."
Levi studied you.
Not surprised.
Just....confirming something he already suspected.
Erwin, however, didn't hesitate long.
"Agreed."
Levi shot him a look. "That was quick."
"It's reasonable," Erwin replied.
"It's a liability."
"It's a condition," Erwin corrected. "And one that we can accommodate around."
You watched them both carefully.
Erwin nodded towards you. "As long as it doesn't interfere with your duties, you will be permitted to return."
Levi clicked his tongue. "You're going to regret this later."
"Maybe," Erwin said calmly.
You let out a breath you didn't know you were holding in.
Something in your shoulders eased - just slightly.
Not relief.
But something close to that.
"Alright then," you said.
Levi pushed himself off the wall. "Don't expect a warm welcome up there."
"I don't," You replied.
"And don't slow us down."
A faint smirk tugged at your lips. "Wouldn't dream of it, sunshine."
For a brief moment, the tension shifted - not gone but different.
Less hostile and more aligned.
Erwin stepped back slightly. "We leave immediately."
You stood. No hesitation this time.
You glance around the empty bar once more - the place that been everything to you for so long.
Then back at them.
"Lead the way, Commander."
Levi sighed quietly. "She is going to be a pain in my ass."
You shot him a glare. "Feeling is mutual, short stuff."
And with that -
You walked past him.
Not as someone being dragged from the Underground. But as someone choosing for the first time -
To step out of it.
