“Mom keeps texting me. Can you tell her to stop? I’m so tired. I’ve never been this hungover in my life.” Levi was sitting at the bar of his own brunch restaurant, the entire place empty besides him and his sister. “So...how did the party go? Nice to know Cal didn’t tell me any of this shit.”

“I’m short? Dude, what is your standard for judging height?” he asked with a playful scoff, straightening his posture to accentuate his six-foot-one frame. “Alright, Jeffrey Ross, let’s tone it down a bit — you really think the hair cut sucks, though?” Wyatt raised an eyebrow, running his fingers through his light brown locks.
“I don’t know,” Levi admitted, but his smile was still there. He liked giving Wyatt a hard time – plus, it wasn’t like the man was bad to look at. “Who is Jeffrey Ross? And no, but you’re too young for a combover, dude.”

“Whatever. I guess we’re fucking even then.” Even though he didn’t want to give in that easily, he did so he didn’t have to waste his energy on an unnecessary argument. He saved that for his fights. “No. I do not know what you are talking about. Nobody is talking about me.”
Levi shrugged his shoulders, managing a smile, “Yep. I agree. Even.” He rolled his eyes, looking at his friend, “Yeah...I’m pretty sure everyone is. But whatever. What are you doing tonight?”

“Well you didn’t even tell me that...what, you were in on this whole thing? Where’s the trust there, Cal?” Levi put his chin in his hand, looking at his best friend, “You do know what I’m talking about.”

“Nah, there isn’t a sign. But you are kinda short.” It was a joke, but Levi made sure to give Wyatt a once over anyway. He couldn’t help himself. “You do scream ‘nerd’ though. Must be the hair style.”

BIOGRAPHY –
Growing up, Levi learned how to work the system that had become his family. Being the baby of the family, he was always heavily relying on the actions of his older sister, wishing he could be as strong as he saw her to be. When their father left when he barely turned eleven years old, Levi was heartbroken. The picture of “family" that he had was in shambles. He had no more role models as parents – no male figure to figure out his way through life. Instead, his sister was there, but he could tell she was barely keeping herself together, let alone able to handle Levi. Ignoring any phone calls that were given to him out of obligation by his father, bitterness settled deep within his heart.
There was the issue of abandonment that haunted Levi, and while his sister went on to live her own life, he found himself obsessing over the need to remain relevant to her in any way possible. He easily could’ve been called needy at times, but he only wanted to make sure his older sibling knew that he was always going to love her, no matter what. Levi didn’t want to be part of her spotlight, no, he just wanted to make sure Selene knew he wasn’t going to leave her for any reason or anyone.
Levi learned how to be self sufficient, however, even though it was hidden behind the façade that he learned to put on for the media. As a child that lived in the spotlight, there was always someone paying attention to the action of the Dubois family. His sister’s acting career took off, and Levi pulled the reigns back. His childhood was lonely, relying heavily on the companionship of his sibling before he was finally able to leave and go to culinary school when he turned eighteen. Using connections was easy enough, and he started up his own restaurant, deciding to try and make it big in the food scene of New York.
He never wanted to be in the spotlight, but his charade he gave to the camera only hid the real Levi that was underneath it all. From bar crawling to getting wasted across Europe, Levi lived up his anonymity in places that didn’t know who he was or who he was connected to. It easily led him into a time of debauchery, where he did what he wanted without consequence. Eventually, he crawled back to New York, immersing himself back into running his restaurant and paying attention to his life he’d tried so hard to leave behind. Putting on his false sense of self is habit now, but Levi feels like he’s falling apart at the same time. He uses his relationship with his family as a crutch, and he refuses to stand on his own until he absolutely has to.

“Let me guess, you’re the type of person who actually believes that New Years resolutions work.” There was a hint of disbelief in Angel’s voice, and just a tiny bit of judgment. More like, a whole lot of judgment. New Years resolutions were childish in his opinion and he couldn’t believe that there were actually people who still believed that they were useful in any way.
Levi rose an eyebrow, “Uh...yeah. For at least...the first few weeks. People have no problem starting things...but actually doing them and stuff...” he trailed off, unsure why he was even explaining himself to Angel. “Fine. Mine are going to work. It’s day three and I have not had a single ounce of alcohol yet. Dry January is lit.”

“Why do you hate me?” Levi made a face, giving his friend a look, “Fuck off and show me, Cal. Nothing you bought can be worth the wait.”

“Hell no, nuh uh,” Selene shook her head, determined to let her brother know that there wasn’t a chance his idea was taking place. “I’m not going to dinner with mom. I wouldn’t if you paid me.” Her relationship with her mother was questionable, at best, and it was enough that she’d have to see her over the holidays.. at some point. But Christmas dinner at the Dubois household? She couldn’t even fathom it. “Look at how well our last family dinner went, let alone one as celebratory as Christmas. Do you really want to add this one to our growing pile of shitty holidays?!”
“Okay – well – fine. You tell her.” He pushed his phone towards his sister, like he refused to be the bearer of bad news. “I’ve worked really hard to be the somewhat favorite child, so you know, it’d be better to say no to a shitty holiday. If you don’t want to go, then what are we doing? You better not be ditching me.”
