Bronica ETRS - Test Roll
Since I received my Bronica ETRS I’ve only put one roll of film through it just to make sure the camera was functioning as it should be. The person I purchased it from kindly supplied with it a roll of Kodak Ektar 100.
So what do I think about the results... Well I love them! I know they may not be perfect in terms of composition or exposure being spot on but I am so pleased because the camera is working well :)... the focus errors are me getting used to shooting 2.8 on a Medium Format, the depth of field is more shallow but I will get used to that when focusing and re-composing... just need to adjust.
The above shot of my son was using off camera flash through a Shoot Though Umbrella. Rather pleased with it despite a little focus error.
These next two pictures I really like... Again they may not be the perfect photo for many reason but because it showed the quality of the Kodak Ektar used. It really does well for landscapes. Not so much for portraits as reds really show in the skin tones.
Overall I am very pleased with the images and how the camera works and handles. I’ve now stocked up a little on Kodak Portra 400 for future colour negative film as I love making portraits and from what I hear and have seen, Portra rocks for that!
I sent my film to the guys at http://ukfilmlab.com to develop/scan and I think they have done a fantastic job so may thanks to them and please check them out!
Cheers!
Film is taking over!
Hey guys!
My last post I spoke about how I was ‘Flirting with film’...  Well as the title says Film is taking over!
I haven’t used my Fuji X-Pro1 in ages!  Again as much as I love the xpro1 I’m just not getting the same feeling as with film. I also received my Bronica ETRS 6x4.5 in early May and it rocks (A post will come on my thoughts of the ETRS)... Its a different way of shooting again but that’s what is drawing me deeper and deeper in to the Medium of film photography. As much as it is the way film pictures look, its little things that get you hooked like the loading and unwinding the film, the anticipation of waiting for the negatives to return or developing your own... Even the sound of the shutter, every camera sounds awesome, digital just doesn’t do that for me. But the biggest reason for me to shoot film is the way it makes me feel when releasing the shutter... The moment you do you know you have done so because in your mind everything was right for that moment and that magic is happening inside on that piece of film and its permanent.
Sure, I know digital has the same result but I do not get that same feeling that makes me smile more when shooting thats why I shoot film... It makes me happy and smile with excitement to see the negatives/scans a week later.
My plan for the future of my photography is still the same, for it to one day be my full time profession... However with the way things have been lately in terms of me shooting film.. my plan may now be changing to make it work shooting film. Time will tell that story later but that is where I’m aiming.
Thanks for reading!
