My mother is a primary school teacher, and her class is full of 6 and 7 year olds. Right now I am helping them get ready for their Christmas Concert. I've choreographed a dance, and I go in most days and rehearse it with them. One of my mothers students has ADHD, and he's very hard to control, and he talks all the time. He will say exactly what's on his mind, regardless of if it hurts someone. We were rehearsing today, and I took a group of the kids outside to help them with a particular step they weren't able to get. I demonstrated, and my dress flew up a bit at the front. The other kids giggled, they thought it was hilarious. But the ADHD kid frowned at me, and ran forward and lifted my skirt up again. Shocked, I tried to pull it down, but he was already pointing at my scars. Demanding to know what they were. I wasn't going to tell a group of young children the truth about them, so I just shrugged it off. But that boy knew. He knew exactly what they were. I'm not sure how, but from that moment on he treated me differently. And when I went to leave he gave me a huge hug and said "It's ok. Life gets better." I'm not sure what this kid knows, or how he knows it, but somehow he knew exactly what to say.
