We’re going to see Alicia go through an interesting arc over the course of the season, as well. Of all of our characters, she was the one that had a line on her future. She was independent. She was going to go to college, and she was going to say goodbye to mom, and to addict brother, and to El Sereno, and start a new life. And of all the characters, being the most prepared for the old world, she is the least prepared for the new world, and when she hears that voice on the radio, it’s somebody who feels like they’re a contemporary person. It’s somebody whom she feels she can relate to, and I think it’s out of a need to connect to the dying past that she begins that conversation. At the end of the episode when everything collides, there is a very real danger that this guy had ill intents, and was more nefarious than we realized, and eventually we may hear that voice again.

Catfish Season 8 Episode 2
When you say that Alicia should be the antagonist, what exactly do you mean? Like what would that entail plot wise?
In my opinion Alicia should be the antagonist to her family, but specially her mom. Madison has been set up to be a pretty archetypal heroine and is now established as the moral compass of the show. I think having Alicia counterbalance as the anti-hero would be pretty rad to watch.
What we refer to as an anti-hero in screenwriting/literature is typically a person who does things that could be described as “heroic” but mostly for selfish reasons or not the “best” reason. Anti-heroes are usually more complex, nuanced, and interesting to watch than straightforward heroes because they tend to have constant inner turmoil stemming from the questionable decisions or life choices they make. Anti-heroes are not entirely evil but they’re not good either. They do have to be just relatable enough and just good enough that the audience doesn’t see them as a villain but they also know they’re not there to necessarily save the day. They’re usually very flawed and morally grey characters. Seeing Alicia grow into that role would keep me around for a long time.
If you’re still confused and need an example, the first one I can think off right off the bat is Netflix’s portrayal of Jessica Jones. She fits the anti-hero definition pretty well.
Can you imagine Nick sitting in Strand’s lap as he steers the boat?
*matt dies*
Madison: don't fret my sweet child. there are plenty of fish in the sea.
*a few days later on the Abigail*
Alicia: mom you were right. I got myself a catfish. His name is Jack.
Alycia said in a recent interview that her character this season really struggles with accepting reality that it's a dire situation and they can't trust anyone and having hope that things will work out, etc. She said she /thinks/ that her character is moving towards being more ruthless and that that's what she's hoping for. So hopefully we will see that (I defn think we will) because we all know she does badass VERY well.
It’s not even about comparing the character to Lexa and what we’ve seen from Alycia in that context before. I’d honestly feel the same way even if Lexa didn’t exist. This is the character arc that makes sense to me for Alicia when I look at all the crumbs they scattered in the first six episodes. I’m going to be bummed if they don’t make her the antagonist to the group.
@ anyone hating on Alicia for chatting with the guy on the radio…fuck you.
She’s 18. The world just ended. She’s not thinking about all the horrible people that are still alive - right now she only knows about the “infected”. The living are not dangerous to her yet. Why would they be? People are good. Dead people are bad. That’s how you think it’s supposed to be. Well, she’s going to learn that lesson right off the bat.
The concept of the living being more dangerous than the dead and the “give me all your shit or I’ll kill you” mentality has been slowly built by TWD for SIX seasons. It’s been like three weeks and 7 episodes for her.
In Alicia’s world, Rick’s still in Georgia in a fucking coma. Have some perspective. Jfc…
^
I like that they keep portraying Alicia as this moody, naive almost stupid teenager. That can only mean that by the end of the season, she’s gonna be the actual badass of the show.. That or she’ll be on her way to be.
IT’S A RADIO
