Location: Hop Notch Brewery Connection: First Date after Late Husband Trauma - @leongriffin​ Status: Closed Starter. 

   Alexis had never had to deal with the frustrations that came with dating applications before, but now living in a new location, basking in the freedom of being single, not having to deal wit the abuse she’s dealt wit for years. You deserve this. Lexi would say to herself as she pulled into the brewery and sat in her car, readjusting her white blouse, Alexis sat back and texted Leon to let him know she was here. There were many factors that helped in Lex decided to say yes to a date with this handsome stranger. They moved into town virtually at the same time, He was a year younger than her, but that’s alright. He was good at keeping her attention, and if she was completely honest with herself, it didn’t hurt that he was very, very handsome. Grabbing her bag, Lex decided to walk ahead and meet him in the front of the brewery doors, she didn’t look at her phone to see if he replied so perhaps Leon had already been waiting for her. For any event, Lex was always in the five minute frame of being early, Work was definitely a contributing factor to that and she was curious how her well her date was at organizing his time. Frankly, Alexis was excited for her date, he seemed like a catch from what she could tell. Regardless, she just hoped they both had a pleasant night tonight. Come what may.

As Alexis took the stage, Cass blew out a small whistle and clapped furiously. Making new friends wasn’t hard for the singer, but she did find these days that keeping her circle close knit and tight was a bit of a task. The redhead’s eyes sparkled in a way that made Cass feel safe, and the banter fell between the two of them felt almost as if they had known each other for ages. She was excited to see what she could deliver on the stage, praying that she wouldn’t have to fake words of reassurance and encouragement when she was done. But as the familiar tune played and the lights cradled the woman in a singular spot, Cass couldn’t help but feel moved by her performance. When it came to open mics there were a myriad of ways people could have performed, but Alexis was digging somewhere deep in herself to feel each lyric. It was amazing. Once she was done and the crowd broke out in rambunctious applause, Cass saw that she had kept her word in finding her. “And you were nervous?” Cass questioned, her eyebrow quirked up slightly. “You’re a natural,” She said absolutely beaming over at the woman. She was plenty inspired, though the song of choice that she hoped to get from the redhead had been usurped as the MC called out Cass’ name, declaring she’d be performing a single that had been in the top 40 charts for weeks now. She eyed the woman with a sheepish gaze, “I haven’t performed this live yet, but wish me luck?” The song itself was sultry, brimming with ache and loss, but then a turnabout into a new world of happiness and love. Her muse for the song stayed at the forefront of her mind, a smile undeniably staying on her lips as the conclusion of the song came. 

   It was rare to find such a strong connection with someone the first time you met them, but people like that were absolutely special and Lexi was going to fight to remain friends with the stunning brunette she met on a whim. The kind hearted woman that cared enough to give her moral support and motivating words. It was people like Cassie that gave Alexis a newfound and restored faith in humankind. Nodding her head, Lexi nodded furiously and laughed. “I tried what you told me and it really helped but my whole body was shaking honestly.” The redhead said with a small laugh. “Thank you so much it means a lot. Music has always been a sort of therapy for me, so singing helps me destress but i usually just keep it to my shower.” Open Mic Night was more of a last ditch effort to expose herself and seem more approachable. When the MC called for Cass’ name, Alexis smiled brightly, and looked at her. “i’m going to order us drinks, did you want anything specific?” She was thinking shots, maybe Patron, but if Cassie wanted anything specific, Lexi was happy to get it for her. “I’m sure you’re going to be amazing.” Alexis said without hesitation. The way Cass worded that led Lexi to believe she was a professional musician, and if that was the case Lex was all the more excited to support her and recommend her to others as well. “Wishing you all the luck to ever exist, but i’ll be honest, I don’t even think you genuinely need it.” Of course she’d send good luck energy her way in excess.

An ICU nurse. Ah, it was all starting to come together. She wondered if the woman had just come off from a shift, and if so her aversion to a strangers touch would have made a world of sense. She took another sip of her drink but realized it’d been the last that was available in her glass, but luckily the bartender had caught on and easily slipped a new drink onto the bar top where she resided. “Louisana to Washington,” Allison mused out loud. “Do you miss it sometimes?” Then as she thought about Lexie’s initial inquiry, she had to stop for a moment to realize that the redhead being from out-of-town had no way of knowing the founding family dynamic of which she came. It was so refreshing. “I’m sure it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but for me it’s always and will probably always be home.” She said honestly. “The positives would definitely be the fact that you can find your niche’ here especially if you’ve uprooted your entire life and set course for here. The negatives?” Her voice faltered a bit. Sometimes the quiet in the town was so vast, the ringing in her ears hurt. But at the same time, sometimes it bustled too loudly with gossip, an end that she found herself being on too much lately for her own comfort. “I think the negatives are more of a subjective matter really.” 

   Lexi didn’t have to think about it, “I miss it with my entire being.” She replied with a nod, no hesitation, but within thinking about her past, she also got slightly caught up in thinking about her dead ex husband and he family distancing themselves from her... all the trauma she’s endured there. Sure she missed it, but she didn’t think she’d go back, well, not for a while. Stepping away from her thoughts, Alexis looked back at Allison and listened as she spoke. Gently smiling as she claimed this town as home. She hoped to made this town so firmly home for her too. As the female opposite to her claimed, you can find your niche here. She hoped to, very soon. “How exciting. Can’t wait to find mine.b What would you say is yours?” Lex’s plump glossed lips gave Alli a bright smiled as she asked, curious of the gorgeous woman giving her any time of her day. “I can see that being a subjective matter.” So far for Lexi is was far too many options. She was so used to limited options and small town setting with Louisiana, but she knew she’d get used to it eventually.

Kaiya was the type of person that was used to living in a state of chaos and the dull life she’d settled into since returning from the military was still weird to adjust to. “You might just be,” Kai nodded back with a small lift of her lips. It wasn’t her ideal place to be, but if it worked for Lexi, more power to her. Head tilted back to the side with a half smirk, she shrugged her shoulders, debating on being unnecessarily evasive about giving her name. “I don’t think I gave it,” she started before pausing and relenting. Lexi was just being friendly and Kaiya had no real reason to be an asshole. While she wasn’t one to need a reason for it, the other woman had bought her first round so she deserved a little more respect. “Kaiya.” Her fingers drummed against her beer glass, head bobbing along as Lexi spoke about her time so far in the town. “Some of the people around here are alright, I guess. What do you do for work?”

   Lex raised he glass with a laugh, “I’ll cheers to that then.” She smirked and took a sip before taking in her name and pursing her lips before smiling, she loved how her name rolled off the tongue. “You have a beautiful name, Kaiya, it’s lovely to meet you, and Roxie. Made my whole day, honestly.” It wasn’t an exaggeration. After such a long dreadful day it was nice to have at least one positive thing happen. “Definitely, i’m a nurse, hospice, sounds grim and it can be sometimes but i love it. Unfortunately today was one of the more harder days, but meeting you and Roxie definitely helped some so, thank you for that.” Alexis smiled at the service dog once more before looking at Kaiya once again. “How do you choose to spend your days? If you don’t mind me asking.” She asked before taking the last sip of her drink and asking for water, turning around to give Kai her full attention once more.

His tongue prodded at his cheek as he stifled a laugh. Was Declan completely smitten and in love with his girlfriend? Yes, but would anybody get hurt if they flirted with him? Probably yes as well, but thankfully Cass wasn’t with him. “Lexi,” he repeated to himself, glancing back her way. “Declan Graham,” he reached into his pocket and pulled out a business card, “pleasure. Welcome to town.”

Declan smiled as he sipped through his straw and shook his head. “Offense? I can’t be offended that you find me attractive,” a soft laugh as he adjusted his posture. “My girlfriend, on the other hand, would probably give you a nasty look and make it plenty known that I’m off the market,” Declan informed her. “But uh, since we’re being forward, what’s your reason for moving here? Starting a new life, or just prime real estate?”

     Alexis couldn’t help but laugh at herself for unknowingly hitting on a taken man, she dialed back the flirt and changed her body language to be more respectful. “Ah, well, lucky lady. Nice to meet you, Mr. Graham.” She smiled and took his business card before placing it in her bag and looked down at her drink. “Oh, Thank you so much.Yeah,” She laughed  gently at his wit. “A little bit of both honestly. Just trying to start fresh and this is a beautiful location. I’m a nurse at the hospital.” Lex wondered if she had met his girlfriend in passing or not. She felt a little bad to have been so flirty, but it taught her a lesson to be just a little more reserved with people she didn’t know yet.

“Oz,” he introduced, extended a hand out to shake hers. “Pleasure to meet you.” He picked up his drink. swirling it in hand. “I’ve been back in town for a full month and this is my first time here. Ever,” he told her, peaking back at her. “They never let me through before. Young age and all, but now.” He raised his drink to his lips. Placing the cup down, he sought the bartenders eye, motioning for another drink. “What brings you here?”

   Lex raised her brows and smiled. “Oh no way, well i’m honored to give you your first drink here.” She chuckled and took a sip of her own. She looked at him offering his hand and held her hand up in defense. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be disrespectful, but I work at the hospital so I like to take a hot shower before I physically touch anyone else. I just got out of work and I did wash my hand, I just never feel like that’s enough and I don’t want to endanger anyone in any way.” Oof, what a ramble, Lex thought before bringing her hands down, and taking a sip, knowing her southern twang came out to see hello once or twice interlaced with the words in her rambles. “Just had a harsh day at work is all, wanted a little pick me up.” Lexi smiled gently. “You, Oz? Love that name by the way.”

When it came to introductions, Allison had basically been put on autopilot when it came to giving proper ones that included shaking hands and offering a smile. But her hand stayed firmly wrapped around her glass as she noted the other woman’s body language, not making a move to extend her hand to her, which could have been for a myriad of reasons. She could tell it wasn’t from disrespect or general aversions, though it did pique her interest as to why that may have been. “Welcome to the Harbor, Alexis,” Allison offered, before canting her head to the side, “My name is Allison, I’ve been here for well, most of my life really, Up until college.” She sniffed slightly at the memory of the years she’d endured in the east coast before she brought her glass to her lips, letting the alcohol smoothly slide down to assuage any anxieties that might have threatened to bubble up. “Where are you from?” She offered for pleasant banter, “New job? New opportunities?” 

   It was almost a relief Allison didn’t extend her hand, not that Alexis minded explaining why, but it just saved the ramble that came with it. “Lovely to meet you, Allison.” Lex smiled gently and took a sip, it was nice to meet a local always because they always had more insight and everyone’s experience was different. Lex always believed you could learn at least one thing from everyone you met. “How do you like it here? Do you mind if I ask your positives and negatives of this town?” Lex took another careful sip before thinking about Allison’s question and how she would answer it. “I’m from New Orleans, Louisiana. was born and raised there, went to nursing school at LSU and got married e whole thing before a bunch of things happened, he passed and I just wanted to something new. I threw a dart did some research and chose Crescent Harbor. I’m a hospice nurse at the hospital. sometimes I help in the ICU since I was first an ICU nurse then changed my direction, but only when they’re understaffed. it’s rare.” Lex nodded gently before a small smile and another sip.

A smirk spread across the brunette’s features. The song choice by the, rather gorgeous, redhead was something that had been in Cass’ arsenal back in the days where she found herself sequestered in the East Coast Karaoke scene in New York. “That song definitely brings me back to better days,” Cass began, realizing how ominous it could have sounded to a complete stranger. She laughed it off before attempting to wave the statement away. “I’m sure you’re going to be fantastic, I’m almost certain about it,” She offered with a wink. But in terms of Cass taking the stage for the evening? She wasn’t sure why she was hesitating, especially as performing was literally in her line of work. “Tell you what Lexi, once you go up and you inspire the socks off of me, I’ll go up sometime after. I’ll even do a song of your choice.” She bartered playfully. With her drink in hand, Cass’ gaze fell on the stage, some heavily awful mics were feedbacking slightly into the sound system. “Or if the technical difficulties continue we can just chat and get to know each other.” She said, once again chuckling as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “It’s a pleasure to meet you though Lexi, I’m Cassie.” She hoped the smile she exuded was warm and inviting, until she heard the MC of the evening calling out the redhead’s name. “I’m rooting for you,” She reminded her.  

   Alexis knew she was going to like being around Cassie. There was so much about her energy that she just knew they’d get along well. As much as she knew she would extend the same moral support and gladly pick a song for Cassie too, she almost wished there were still technical difficulties to deal with because she so badly wanted to get to know her. Not only was Cassie absolutely stunning, but she was so kind, smart, confident. Lex loved it all already. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.” The red head started, taking in all of what Cas said to her before continuing on to say, “technical difficulties or not, i’d still love to get to know you.” She said as she started to walk to the stage slowly, looking back to her “I’ll find you after!” Se didn’t want to end her interaction with Cas, her energy was calming and she seemed so kind and insightful. As Lex approached the microphone, she introduced herself and sat down to sing, licking her full lips and she waited for the music to start for Fade into You and she took Cassie’s advice, looking at something at the wall that didn’t move. This song brought out a lot of emotion for her so it wasn’t long until Alexis genuinely got into it and before she knew it was over. All the nerves for what? She did it, and she didn’t know how well or badly she did from other people’s perspective but she knew she enjoyed it. Thanking everyone, taken back from some of the clapping, Lexi smiled waved as she made her way back to the woman she wanted to continue her conversation with. “I hope that inspired you to get up there a bit.” The red head chuckled lightly and smiled over at her.

Head canted to the side as she continued the conversation. It was general small talk, nothing too draining, which…well, it was nice. Landon was tired of discussing himself or his sister’s wedding with people, hence why he was out alone in the first place. “I’ve been living here since I was…19? 20? It all blurs together,” he laughed lightly. “I live downtown. How bout yourself?” Landon sipped on his drink. Was it smart to open himself up to her? Was small talk really opening up? “While we’re here…Landon Reid.”

   Alexis nodded as he spoke about how long he’s been here and if she was honest, it didn’t seem relevant for her to know he’s been here since he was nineteen if she didn’t know his current age, but he seemed young, definitely handsome, so she didn’t think it may have been very long. “Oh nice, i’ve lived here for a couple month.” Lex’s smile perked up when he said he lived downtown. “Oh me too! I actually live two blocks up... maybe I shouldn’t have disclosed that to the handsome stranger at the bar, but...” The redhead chuckled and smiled. “Nice to meet you Landon, I’m Alexis. Lexi, really.” Shit, did she introduce herself already? Whatever, it’s been a long day it’s not that big of a deal.

It didn’t take much observation to catch on that the woman was, quite apparently, a much nicer person than Kaiya. Kai wasn’t the type to make friends or buy people drinks or blush, the differences between them immediately obvious. A half smirk curled at her lips as she lifted a brow, head angled towards Alexis. “Fair enough, well. Welcome to the most boring town you could have ever chosen to move to,” Kai greeted with a flourish of her arms. Head dropping down to the dog at her feet when Alexis mentioned her, Kai’s features softened ever so slightly, a genuineness in her smile for a brief flicker. “Yeah, she’s good shit. Roxie.” Kai’s toe nudged against the dog who looked up with a grin, panting excitedly as the attention was turned her way. As the beer was slid over her way across the bar, Kai grabbed it and took a long draught, lifting it towards Alexis as a thank you gesture. “How long have you been in town?”

   The red head smiled at that description of this town, boring. “Well, I happen to think boring is underrated so... I must be in the right place.” Honestly after everything Lexi’s been through in the past three years, boring may have been what attracted her to this town the most. “I bet. Looks like a good dog.” Lex flashed Roxie another smile before looking at her again, she didn’t think a name was given, “I’m sorry, I don’t think I got your name?” Or did she? Honestly, Lex has had such a long day that her mind could be playing games on her, but better safe than sorry. “I’ve been here for a couple months, mostly working and just getting an overall handle on where everything is and what the people are like.” Nodding she took a sip of her drink and placed it down. “I really like it so far, thankfully.”

There was something vaguely flirtatious about the whole encounter, though on recent advice from… a friend, he was trying not to expect too much from people’s words and actions. Maybe she did this for everyone, or maybe he just looked like he needed something nice. (He did, and he appreciated the gesture.) “Lachlan,” he said with a nod, before quickly putting in his order of whatever amber ale was on tap with the bartender. 

“Eh, it seems like all the days are long these days,” he said with a soft sigh. “Something about winter and it getting dark so early just makes everything seem so… depressing.” There was a reason Washington was affected by higher than normal cases of Seasonal Affective Disorder. “How was your long day? If you don’t mind my asking…” 

   Lexi like his name, it rolled off the tongue nicely and it wasn’t one you usually heard. She loved names like that. “I like your name.” She definitely wasn’t shy to express herself on things she was fond of either, and maybe that came off as flirty, but she genuinely meant no disrespect. “It’s nice to meet you.” She rolled back a bit and smiled gently. Hearing him speak on how winter was depressing and he wouldn’t be wrong. Many of her patients experienced seasonal depression this time of year. It was a very real thing. “I agree. the cold has a way of making people feel fatigued and isolated. Especially in a rainy, cold state like Washington.” Lex took a sip of her drink with a smirk and watched as he ordered his own. Falling in a trance as the amber liquid filled the chilled glass before being placed on a coaster and served to him. 

    Snapping out of her reverie when he asked her about her day, pursing her lips. “Um,” She started with a chuckle, scratching the corner of her forehead a bit. When a patient died it was always a little hard to think about. “I’m a hospice nurse so, I’m used to people passing, but sometimes you grow close to patients and when they pass it’s just a tiny bit harder to breathe throughout the day...” She looked down at her drink and took a sip. “I’m just glad they’re not in pain anymore.” She smiled gently at him and sighed. “How about you? If you don’t mind me asking.”

     “Hey,” the publisher returned with a gentle sigh as she slipped into the seat one over from the redhead. It was only Tuesday but it felt like it had been a long week already. Maybe that had been because she did a lot of work over the weekend? She just had so much reading to catch up on and then Monday and today consisted of endless calls and meetings, some of them going on for hours. While her actions felt a little dramatic, Luna was feeling a bit of burnout. It didn’t mean she’d necessarily pull back but maybe just becoming aware that she needed to set some boundaries when it came to work. “That’s so sweet of you,” she chimed, turning her chin and directing a grateful smile toward the other. “It’s been a day, a week…” Luna shook her head, reeling in the unasked for dump of her stresses. She didn’t want to be that person at the bar, especially not to the first friendly face that’d spoken to her. 

     When the bartender appeared before Luna she ordered a whiskey sour and pulled up the little menu to glance over the food offerings. Really, the New York native should wait until she got home and cooked up something somewhat healthy, but.. “wanna split a bite? On me?”

   Alexis may have not known exactly what this beautiful kind stranger went through all week, but she could definitely relate that it’s been a rough week. “I completely feel that.” She chuckled softly. “Stressful job?” Maybe it was intrusive to ask, so the redhead added. “If you don’t mind me asking, of course... “ The last thing Lex wanted to do was leave a sour and nosey first impression. That wasn’t a representation of her at all.     Her kindness really touched her heart as her eyes lit up and Lexi nodded gently. “That’s very sweet, thank you, i’d love that. I’ll cover the tip, how about that?” She smiled brightly and finally thought it’d be a good time to introduce herself. “I’m Alexis, it’s lovely to meet you.”

Declan had only stopped in because it was time for dinner and he was in no mood to cook. Besides, if he ordered takeout, he was sure that the restaurant would get all of his money rather than a third-party delivery service. It was a win-win situation, right? The host had told him he could take a seat at the bar, and though it made him anxious, he stood behind the row of stools.

The bartender sighed as he ordered a Sprite as he waited. Nobody ever tipped on sodas, but Declan made a point to slip him a $10. Nothing wild, but better than nothing, right? After discovering that the woman a few seats down paid for him, Declan chuckled to himself and sat down next to her. “You’re aware you paid for a Sprite, right?”

   Alexis shrugged her shoulders and sent him a wink. She didn’t care what drink she was paying for. She still wanted to pay for it. “Cheap date.” She smirked, sure, a little flirty, but it didn’t hurt that he was an incredibly handsome man. “I’m Lexi. I’m new here.” She sent him a fond smiled before taking a sip of her own drink. She rolled back a lot of her flirt and left the ball in his court. More so to see if he’d pick it up, be just as playful back or let her in on a couple things. That either he was taken, or not interested. She couldn’t imagine such a good looking human being would be single for long.

   Then some of the guilt set in. She remembered her late husband and pursed her lips. “I’m sorry if I was too forward, a couple sips of this old fashioned and i’m already out of it. I apologize for any offense.” She was no where near buzzed, but blame it on the alcohol when it came to feeling slightly guilty of flirting when the supposed love of her live, her eyes rolled at that one, had passed not too long ago.

Rowan wasn’t sure why he still had dating apps, there were plenty of people he treasured the presence of both above and beneath the sheets. Maybe it was a lingering habit from his time on the road, often using the dates as a way for nearly genuine interaction whilst traveling lonesome. Whatever the case, he still ambled into his car and drove halfway across town to On the Rocks, his gaze roaming the room upon entrance in search of his company for the evening. Visibly, Rowan winces in realization that he had met her previously, the date having gone so terrible he had blocked her from further contact. Yet, here she was, once Kate now Kerry, sat to an open table waiting for his arrival. Rowan pivots, nearly taking off before catching a glimpse of carmine tresses, familiarity stalling his gait. “Lexi,” he greets on approach, the smile adorning his mouth tight, Rowan’s frame folds to a stool near her side, “I need a favour.” His head tilts slightly in motion to the woman sat in the restaurant’s corner, “I’m supposed to be meeting that girl here, but she is sort of batshit, and not in a hot way,” he meets Alexis’ gaze, “any chance you can match her crazy and spook her off if she happens to come over? I gave it a go, but I guess she is pretty fucking persistent.”        

   Alexis was used to interesting requests from people due to her job as a nurse, this was definitely a new one. Looking at Rowen, she pursed her lips and looked at the woman he talking about in the corner before looking back at him. She had half a mind to say no, it had beeb a long day and she didn’t know if she had enough energy for this, but if she was in his position, she’d probably appreciate it. “Okay, but you owe me.” She smirked and shook her head before taking a sip. “Sit, get a drink, calm those nerves.” She smiled. How was she going to do this if she approached them? Fuck, should she just stare? Lex took another sip as she thought. “How’d you get into this doozy?”

A safe haven for Allison on a rather taxing day at the law firm was On the Rocks. Though as of the past couple of weeks, the days that were almost too much bear seemed to override the days where Allison knew any semblance of peace. This was especially true due to the whispers she heard around the office related to the latest Hawthorne/Blackwood scandal that was making its rounds around time. Top it off with an overbearing client intake where she was 100% sure the person who wanted her to defend them was indeed very guilty for that they were trying to get exonerated from, Allison was simply beyond the measure of at her wits end. Walking in through the entrance, she was spotted by the bartender whom she’d built a rapport with, settling into her usual spot at the direct bar rather than a table on the side. It was only when she heard a voice from beside her, belonging to the kind fiery redhead, Allison couldn’t help but chuckle, a new emotion after grimacing for the latter part of the day. 

Once her usual was in front of her, whiskey on the rocks, Allison held up her glass and tipped it in the woman’s general direction, taking a long and well deserved sip. Her nose crinkled slightly from the burn, eyes cast back over to the woman as she said, “Thank you for that, I’d love to cover the next round.” 

   Alexis smiled and shook her head. “You really don’t have to do that, but thank you, I appreciate the gesture.” Lex didn’t do things to get people to do things back, and owned that, but this was more of an open invitation to conversation that could lead to a nice friendship. An ice breaker so to say. “I’m Alexis, i’m new in town.” She didn’t offer her hand, because she hadn’t gotten the chance to go home and take a shower after the hospital and that was just... she had to, unless she was wearing gloves over her manicured hands, she refused to put her hands on anyone after work.
