The Cloud Atlas movie isn’t the best movie. I mean, A+ casting and the music is outstanding, but it’s got some issues and the book is infinitely superior.

That being said, there are a few scenes that are just so powerful on the screen. There’s one in particular that just kills me. Like, it breaks my heart into pieces and then stomps on the pieces.

Robert Frobisher (my favorite of the six narrators and played by Ben Whishaw) has finished composing a symphony. THE symphony. He’s written a final letter to his dear friend and lover, Rufus Sixsmith (James D'Arcy) and is intent on committing suicide.

So, Sixsmith is there to find him, has tracked down the right building, and when he’s only a single staircase away, there’s a gunshot. He runs up the stairs and finds Frobisher in the bath, having shot himself in the head.

It’s absolutely heartbreaking. He was so close. It haunts me.

And Frobisher knew Sixsmith was there. He saw him. He’d gone to watch the sunrise and have a last cigarette when he spotted Sixsmith. He watched him and then snuck away to go do what he had planned.

“I don’t think it was chance that I saw you first,” he said in the final letter.

Y'all. It haunts me.
