No caption necessary.
The quote would be more accurate if it said âCartoons were never as easy, fast and (potentially) cheap to make as they are todayâ.
Just because the tech improved considerably since the 80s, writing has not. The only difference is that itâs laden with political nonsense, dumb memes and âlolsorandomâ humor that makes the occasional anime bugeye-surprise and faceplant scenes feel innocent.
And itâs not that nostalgic people hate new things. They love new things. IF the new things are actually good. Which sadly isnât true 75% of the time.Â
There are some 80s-90s classics that are drawn and written better than things you can find nowadays, because back then quality was important and people still cared about it back then. Thereâs an occasional error or outdated bit, but it doesnât define the entire show as a whole. Cartoons such as Rescue Rangers come to mind. Gargoyles, etc.
Now you look at all those countless reboots of cartoons that back then used to be popular, piggybacking on said popularity but completely wrecking everything the original had to offer. Character designs, personalities, backstories and whatnot are all justâŠthrown out the window and replaced with something the design artist and writer(s) felt âmore appropriateâ. Deviating so hard from the original, you canât help but ask yourself one question.
âWhy didnât you make something ORIGINAL, then?â
(Sidenote: everything I just said could also be applied to live-action adaptations, such as the Transformers movies, Resident Evil, Teen Titans, etc)
That said, I donât particularly care for She-Ra on its own. I have maybe seen 6-8 episodes at best, so it doesnât define my childhood. Anyway, most of the fanart Iâve seen so far fixed the main gripe Iâve had with her design (having a boy-head with the hair so firmly and flatly pressed onto the top of her skull that thereâs zero volume and looks more like some kind of mullet), âŠthough apparently 70% of those images are actually fembois XD
The nicest thing I can say about the new She-Ra design is that at least itâs not bottom-of-the-barrel CalArts vomit like Thundercats Roar. I have no personal attachment to She-Ra whatsoever and yet I still find her new design to be rather unimaginative, which pretty soundly renders OPâs comically haughty presumption that âYâall just nostalgic JERKS!â null and void right out of the gate. Canât be blindly nostalgic for something you never cared about!
OP also blithely ignores the fact that many of the same people who are giving the new She-Ra and Thundercats the thumbs down are the same people who embraced the 2011 Thundercats reboot, the same people who embraced the 2003 TMNT reboot, the same people who embraced the 2010 My Little Pony reboot, the same people who embraced The Looney Tunes Show, and the list goes on.Â
Peopleâs disdain for stuff like the new She-Ra, Thundercats Roar, Teen Titans Go, the new PPG etc. has nothing to do with nostalgia goggles, nor does it have anything to do with blind/indiscriminate hatred of reboots in general. It has EVERYTHING to do with hackneyed writing which panders to modern sensibilities and EVERYTHING to do with lazy and oversimplified art styles like the eyerollingly ubiquitous CalArts style.Â
Will She-Ra be different? Who knows. OP doesnât know, I can tell you that for free. Thatâs why I find it rather bemusing that he/she (xe? Xena?) would be so inordinately defensive over something that hasnât even hit Netflix yet. Maybe we should save the condescension until AFTER weâve had a proper chance to judge what this show actually is, eh? Wouldnât that be cool?
Never forget to bring this up when someone tries to defend IGNs credibility.
They scored a literal dumpster fire higher then the MLP movie.
The mlp movie isnât some brilliant work of art, but itâs a fundamentally competent production. The emoji movie is nothing. This is outrageous.
MLP is a feel-good movie.
Itâs the sort of thing you watch and get a warm and fuzzy nostalgic high off how much it pays tribute 80s and 90s animation where the roots of MLP are.
Not ground breaking but a solid 8/10 at the least and a blast to sit down and enjoy, especially with the high-quality animation and music.
It was also one of our last bastions of hope regarding 2D animated mainstream movies. It was fucking *gorgeous* with that animation and movement.
What did The Emoji Movie offer us? Nothing. Nothing original, insightful, or even visually interesting.
THIS
The movie was gorgeous and will forever respect it had the balls to use more traditional style 2D animation at a time when full CGI still rules big-budget animation.
Pinkieâs cuteness alone makes me want to finally see it.
They did a beautiful bringing out her character with expressions that are somehow both over-the-top and cute at the same time
Personally Tempest Shadowâs performance/animation just sold this movie for me.
I was told that the models for this movies had a RIDICULOUS amount of frames for each turn around. Rather than just sliding the features around on the face to give the illusion of 3 dimentions the characters had individual face shapes to flow between to make the turns SUPER smooth on every angle.
Having seen the movie I believe this 100%. Was it overkill? Possibly, but damn it looked GOOD.
Itâs funny. I remember Lauren Faust one time commenting about how media targeted specifically for women or young girls are criticized more harshly than those made for boys. And here we are.
Also of note, itâs unknown officially what the exact budget for the film was but itâs said to be around 8 to 30 million dollars, the usual minimum budget for a theatrical animated feature these days is around 50 million to 65 million dollars. The fact that they managed to make the movie look this good on such a small budget is an amazing accomplishment (also the animators worked overtime through 7 day weeks towards the end of production to get the film finished on time).
Thereâs also the fact that while the film does include celebrities voicing the newer characters, the main cast from the show have all their original voice actresses/actors from the TV series, something that is extremely rare for big screen cartoon adaptations as they usually just recast the main characters.
I know everyone is entitled to their opinion and that this film isnât perfect, but come on! It at least deserves more respect than The Emoji Movie!
talk shit about this movie around me I dare you
Ah, but the emoji movie DID offer something that the MLP movie couldn't.
It offered the insipid, lowest common denominator drivel that the lobitomized dudebros who write for IGN enjoy. :^)
Unpopular Opinion
Black Panther doesnât look very diverse.
I would argue the captain America movies and the iron man movies are actually more diverse than black panther.
are white ppl not getting enough air time or something
Poor whitey :( it must be so hard not being the center of everything. Iâm sorry you have to see us negros having a good time for once :(
âi get 90% of the attention all the time but let me compain abt the 10% im not getting!!!!â
What white person you talking about?? I donât see em.
and i dont see your whole argument of not enough white ppl being on tv but what i do is coonery for one
First of all, eat your own ass your stupid racist bitch, and second off, this ainât about fuckin white people. This is about general diversity.
I didnât say the movie was bad, I didnât say black people shouldnât have all black films and shows. I said having a mostly black cast doesnât make them DIVERSE. Do you know what the fuck diversity is? Or did your baby daddy pull you out of highschool early?
Iâm guessing your lite bright ass is pressed cause the cast is dark skinned
thatâs why they hairline look like the caucus mountains
Those eyebrows tried to kill me in my sleep
She sound like she live with her white parent no offense lmao or full offense I havenât decided yet.
Stating a damn fact with no positive or negative inflection is being astray?
Bitch I donât want to be in line with y'all asses then.
Iâm sorry to tell you that saying âBlack Panther doesnât look that diverseâ is in fact negative lmao thatâs not as neutral as you think it is. And by astray I mean how do you, as a Black person, not see the importance of having so many Black people in a movie? A movie thatâs not promoted at just us like Tyler Perry movies or other BET movies. Its a big time Hollywood film with Dark skin actors that arenât playing stereotypes etc like we never ever see that⊠Itâs a progressive as far as Hollywood movies go.
Thatâs just a white woman doing a minstrel cosplay sis
Itâs weird that Latinos, Arabs, Asians etc always want to talk about diversity when black ppl get roles. Why not take it up with the white ppl that made your invisible. Black ppl are seen very stereotypically in Hollywood so these roles arenât going to you anyway. Black ppl over every other races had it hardest in America especially in media and where literally blacked out from tv. Take you bitter asses elsewhere. Next time I watch a Chinese set film Iâll need to see Arabs and Africans so it promotes diversity đ€ŠđŸââïžđ€ŠđŸââïž
Iâm not latino, Arab, or Asian.
Itâs also fine that itâs not diverse, I never said it needed to be
Itâs just not diverse
âBlack ppl over every other races had it hardest in America especially in mediaâŠâ @cute-st
#1, this ainât some competition. Donât go downplaying the problems other people have had because âblack people have had it worse!!â Especially when there has only been one single Native American who has ever won an Oscar, and that was for a song from Dances with Wolves⊠I saw a lot of comments from the Native community just being happy that Adam Beach made it into a big time film (Suicide Squad), even though they spent absolutely no time developing his character. They might as well have had a cardboard cutout.
Facts should be your friends. Donât lie. Just focus on the actual problems going on in Hollywood. We donât need diversity for something to be good and no one has said Black Panther not being diverse is a bad thing. Itâs perfectly fine. Everyone is too hyper focused on making everything diverse, that they forget itâs about storytelling and entertainment. Thatâs why there have been so many flops lately, itâs too much pandering and bullshit, and not enough actual quality time spent on making something good.
Iâm not going to accept just anything just because âoh look representation hur!â People shouldnât push for identity politics so much that we lose sight of humanity and start throwing insults at anyone who disagrees, or who says something that seems like it might be negative. There is nothing wrong with what OP said, it only seems wrong because so many people are too focused on âdiversity = good.â Diversity does not mean something is good.
TL;DR:
âNot-(majority)whiteâ is not by definition âDiverseâ, and âDiverseâ does not mean a movie is actually good.Â
I mean, jesus, just look at the ghostbusters rebootâŠ
-Mod Gemini
@illogical-bullshit do you really think that the people @keyhollow is arguing with didnât rip off their clothes and violently masturbate to the Ghostbusters reboot in the middle of the theaters?
All those people arguing with OP clearly have no idea what diversity actually means
Iâm still in awe at the fact that these mofos call themselves not racist but called OP a coon
This is some appalling racism, I canât even read half the responses to OP without feeling my skin crawl!
Diversity in film is having a fair amount of different raced actors in it. If a movie has an all Japanese r Chinese etc cast it is still not diverse.
So OP is correct. Also way to say she is not âblack enoughâ because she is light skinned. Damn do I hate the whole dark skinned verse light skinned bs. Itâs racist in your own race..
But what do I know. Iâm just a white female..
Seriously, what is it with black people on the internet resorting to petty insults and shouting âcoonâ when they find a black person who disagrees with them? And assuming anyone who disagrees with them is white? Iâm really getting sick of this shit. Youâre becoming as racist as the people you claim to fight against.
Anyway, like everyone else has said, diversity does not make something automatically better, and having a whole cast be non-white is not diversity if itâs still just one race. People need to get a grip.
Well said.
Itâs scary to people that define a huge facet of who they are based on their race. To see someone of the same race NOT doing that is a total mind fuck to them It undermines their own fragile sense of identity, to see that something youâve put so much stock in not actually mattering or defining you. Itâs why a lot of black people hate other black people who donât fall into the stereotype of african AMERICAN Being black is âwho they areâ to some, when people donât follow that mindset they canât get their head around it because, to them at least, itâs normal to define WHO you are based off WHAT you are. Same goes to anyone who defines themselves by unchoosable physical traits. If changing bodies made a part of who you are no longer functional, itâs time to reconsider if thatâs who you really wanna be.
Those who define themselves by birth features they did nothing to achieve (skin color, nationality, gender, sexual orientation etc.) are the most ridiculous type of person I can imagine. While most people EARN their accolades by going out and doing something that's actually worth heralding as a major part of their identity (being an artist, a scientist, a volunteer for humanitarian causes etc.), THESE people think they should be showered with praise just for existing. "I was born with higher melanin levels, THIS IS THE TOTALITY OF WHO I AM!"
Simply pathetic and a waste of potential.

Patreon is Shit!!
I get so sick when some people, who actually donÂŽt even have an idea about Patreon, complain about it anyway. Stop being an ungrateful fuck and start thinking for once.
Patreon helps artist to do what they enjoy and more important what  YOU enjoy. Some artist are finally able to do their Comics or other stuff they wouldnât be able to make without their supporters of Patreon. Some of them maybe just would have a ânormalâ job and wouldnât even have time for such great things, and other would just have to take a ton of commissions. I donÂŽt say that every artist has a fair Patreon page, but the most artist do and they are trying really hard to keep it fair to their Patreons and their Supporters on all the other websites.
I personally always post some picked art pieces in the same month my Patreon get them, mostly just 2 weeks later since Patreon has early accesses. Is that unfair? No you guys still donÂŽt pay a cent to see my content, that IÂŽm just able to make thanks to Patreon.
So stop complaining
(( IÂŽm from germany and I know my english isnÂŽt perect so if your only argument is to complain about my english, then just go. also this rage is mostly for people who complain about Patreon I know there are so many diffrent ways to support an artist, but I just want to make this clear for people who just donÂŽt get it))Â
Anybody who relies on selling porn on Patreon for income is a loser and needs to work towards getting a better job of their current one canât provide them with enough money to compare to their living standards. Now, if itâs just for extra money for shits and giggles, thatâs not a big deal. But I hate seeing people beg and whine for Patreon donations because theyâre barely able to support themselves at a given time.
"People who make a living doing what they love are LOSERS!"

This is embarassing
Holy shit 8 pages of her with her love interest? Thats almost all the pages! Having a love interest totally removes any and all merit from Wonder Woman! I am the outrage!
Literally the notes are full of people praising a grown man for throwing this bitch fit over a coloring book just because they hate the ship.
This is fucking sad lmao
He used all the right buzzwords. He must be drowning in all the compliments from naĂŻve girls that think its sexist and antifeminist for WW to have a bf; ignoring the fact that Supes is in HER book and how OP is the one reducing her because STRONG WOMEN CANT FUCKING BE IN RELATIONSHIPS APPARENTLY. GODDAMN I HATE THESE GUYS
âepically sexist betrayals of feminist iconsâ
Wonder Woman was originally bondage fetish porn
uhmmm i think iâd want a source for that, wtf.
also, i would say this guyâs actually being sexist by assuming that the romance would be something forced from the male side of things and that if they were in a romance wonder woman would as a rule be an accessory of the male.
i would say heâs perpetuating gender stereotypes by implying that itâs necessarily superman initiating the situation.
i mean, maybe wonder woman is just a strong independent woman who felt like getting herself some juicy superman cock in this book, he donât know.
another incident of a man policing a strong independent womanâs sexuality i see, uwu. but itâs ok if itâs a feminist who does it against someone who decides to share their sexuality with a man. because letâs face it, itâs not the womanâs sexuality that is the problem, itâs that sheâs sharing it with a man that is the problem.
Who even buys colouring books at this age.

#NoSlutShaming ⊠oh wait, we arenât doing that anymore? Too inconvenient to the narrative? oh ok
Let's go down the male feminist checklist, shall we? â White male â Hipster glasses â Scrawny â Awful hairstyle â Affluent (just look the gaudy plants and hipster-ass decor in the background) â Offended over sex-positive portrayals of women â Terribad attempt at wit â Flaunts ill-defined math degree Congrats, guy - you meet 87% of male feminist characteristics! Now all you need is a dubious math degree to boast about, and you'll be rolling in feminist pussy in no time flat. ;D PS: Don't forget to check that male privilege and append each sentence with "m'lady"!

Like what did you get out of adding this? Is the idea of not equating gender and genitals this hillarious to you?
It might behoove you to cultivate a sense of humor. Sorry to bring hard reality crashing down upon you, special snowflake, but your gender identity is not of preeminent concern to most people. Hard to believe, I know.
Sherlock, if youâre gonna reply to me then you should make sure you have the mental clarity to type your response in the text field as opposed to the TAGS, you fucking muppet.
And yes, I AM aware of the shitty Evangelical fanatics screaming at transgender people for using the âwrongâ restrooms, and Iâm very much against their ignorant bullshit. Wherever I encounter them, Iâll call them out for the regressive religitards that they are. But guess what? Being a supporter of trans people (or any marginalized group, for that matter) does NOT necessitate that I reform my sense of humor, so how about you piss off, you self-entitled little snowflake?Â
Oh, and while youâre at it, you can take that âpunching upâ bullshit and shove it right back up the malodorous abyss from whence it came. :P
A lot of transpeople donât like âinclusiveâ language like this because it triggers their dysphoria when you keep drawing attention to their biological sex.
In the case of a transwoman they want you refer to them as a woman, not âa woman with a dickâ because thatâs exactly what a bigot would do.
Iâm aware of this, which is why I will go out of my way to address trans people by their preferred pronouns. But this isnât about me and how I address my trans friends, this is about people being allowed to have a sense of humor about any subject they please - yes, even âsore subjectsâ like transgenderism. I despise seeing the keyboard warriors of Tumblr descend upon others like a pack of rabid wolves just for saying something they found unpalatable, and of course Iâm going to call out that nonsensical mob mentality when I see it.
I was really agreeing with you about OP being an idiot.
Mea culpa, I mustâve misinterpreted.
