CASTING CALL 007
Han Yisol - Main Role
Acting + Singing
Yisol wouldn't say that she's loved Dream High more than anything when it first aired, but she wasn't angry at it either. At least from what she remembered, she'd enjoyed it, though it really had been a while. At the same time she felt excited that the musical was based on a drama that would surely count as a classic by now. There were interesting roles and songs and she surely hoped they'd let her show her skills through a main role. Yisol was aware that others were much more suited and skilled for this and she wouldn't be upset about a supporting role either, but one had to set high goals, no? Even if she wouldn't get a main role this time, she could still leave an impression that may help her later on, so she'd give it her all and hope for the best.
But first things first, she had to do research, namely, watching all episodes again, looking up all the songs before practising for the audition. Exciting, but also terrifying, and the audition day crept up much faster than anticipated, leaving her fidgety whenever she wasn't practising... was it even possible to practise enough?
“Hello,” she bowed, “my name is Han Yisol and I'm auditioning for a main role with the song 'Someday' and a scene from season 1, episode 8,” she said, smiling, no matter how nervous she felt on the inside. While she'd been able to show her singing a lot before, the same couldn't be said for her acting. The scene she'd chosen would feature her as Baekhee, someone she couldn't relate to very much at all, but she still wanted to show a character that had a different personality from her own and that felt different from the emotion her chosen song showed.
Baekhee was giving an interview on her debut in that scene and Yisol chose it as it showcased a whole bunch of different emotions at once, especially suppressed disdain for Hyemi, which the girl found interesting, but also difficult to express. She wasn't the type of person to hold strong dislike for anyone, was rather forgiving, so this made her bang her head against the nearest wall, but also felt immensely fun.
“I would like to thank two people,” her eyes shifted to the ground for a moment, voice sturdy, copying the behaviour of the character in the scene, “First I'd like to thank the person next to me, Jinguk,” she looked to the side, smiling, “no, it should be Sihyuk. That I was able to perform during the showcase is all thanks to this friend. Without him, it would have been impossible for me to be able to debut. Hence, I am very grateful to him,” she continued fondly.
Yisol, expression still soft, looked calm and composed, though she couldn't help the slight shaking of her hands. “The next person I want to thank is Miss Shi Kyungjin. The advise that she gave me is... competitors are more important than friends,” she looked directly at the “audience”, “the advise helped me get to where I am today. Hence I am also very grateful to her.” Here she'd decided to skip a small part, so the rest of what she wanted to show would still fit into the minute she had.
“Yes, I am very grateful to that friend, too,” her smile grew sweeter, though it didn't reach her eyes, hinting at the fact that Baekhee didn't like this rival, after all. Her eyebrows lifted a bit, as she gazed over to the side, towards an imaginary Hyemi, her eyes showing more of the aforementioned disdain. A bold choice, Yisol had thought during her rewatch. After all this could shine a negative light on Baekhee, give her a less nice image towards the public.
“Thank you for looking down on me and calling me third rate. Hearing these words from my best friend made me know clearly what I wanted,” her chin lifted up a bit, this was the part she'd found hardest as it showed both the pretence of a friendly smile and a certain level of... cockiness. But it was fun, exciting and she wondered if she'd done well enough, been convincing.
Next was the song. Now this she was much more confident in and even though she'd done her best to relax before, she could feel her shoulders lower a bit.
I lost the strength in my legs and fell down.
I hope these tears will stop running someday
Someday after this darkness disappears
I hope the warm sunshine dries these tears
Her confidence must surely show, she put a sad smile on her face as she sang softly, putting as much emotion into the sad words as she could, even if she had no experience with love herself. But she did have experience in theatrical singing and she was more than ready to show her skills, not wanting any specific role, rather hoping for a chance at all. She was ready.
