i've been here before but always hit the floor; i've spent a lifetime running and i always get away. i'm prepared for this; but i feel like a storm is coming if i'm gonna make it through the day, there's no more use in running: this is something i gotta face.

“wow, screw off, lucas.” jay smiled slightly, walking towards the door, “you gonna go in in clothes or do you want some swimming shorts?” he ran a hand through his dark hair, “you’ve never met my mum, mate.”

“eh, not yet. i’ve still got to rag on you a bit before i screw off,” lucas said, a good-natured spirit in his voice. he followed jay towards the door, shrugging. “some swimming shorts would be great. don’t really want to soak my trousers through.” he raised an eyebrow. “that bad, huh? that she’d roast you for hot tub useage?”

“of course i am. have you even met me?” jay chuckled and nodded, “then lets do it… the hot tub sounds amazing, doesn’t it? it’s really good for my knee. my that’s just my excuse to get in it all the time.”

“i’ve been unlucky enough to, yeah,” lucas ribbed. he nodded in agreement with the other male. “at this hour especially. hot tub, cold pint. good combination.” he smirked, amused. “that’s a good enough excuse. no one can challenge you on that one. although i don’t know why anyone would want to keep you out of it.”

              she could see her was not in the mood for her remarks,   which made her  THIRST  for a fight even greater,   but then again           he was trying to be  nice.   ❛    can’t argue with that.    ❜   it wouldn’t hurt to let it go just for once,   right   ?   yes,   she did feel  resentful,   but she couldn’t force herself into an argument.    ❛    y’know,   i’ve been okay.    ❜   that was usually her reply to that question,   never saying she wasn’t well,   knowing that many people were in a much  WORSE  state than herself.   ❛    how have  you  been doing   ?    ❜   the girl asked hesitantly,   eyes still not meeting him.

jasmine let a fight go. the action seemed almost momentous, and lucas involuntarily breathed a sigh of relief without realizing it. he was a fighter, and a fighter he would always be; but he was tired, and the tired had taken some of the fight out of him. besides, he had never had much fight in him with jasmine-- he tried his best not to, anyways. lucas looked over at her for a brief moment. “okay? that doesn’t sound... great.” he remarked ( eloquent as ever, of course ) before answering her question in return. “alright. just tired, y’know. work and stuff.” vagueness was an excellent shield. and being secretive was in his nature. “just tired.”

“i need a drink… okay, what i really want to do is go play some ball but… nah. so who’s up for a night out? or in… i don’t really care. oo! maybe a nice movie in the hot tub. ma got one while i was away at school.”

“ball at this hour? you’re bloody dedicated.” lucas shook his head in amused disbelief. “drink’s more like it. i could go for a pint,” he remarked. “a pint in a hot tub, though- even better. that’s quite a surprise to come home to, i bet.”

jo was almost positive that the male she was preparing to hit was lucas, but she can’t help but let out a sigh of relief when her suspicions are proven to be correct. because, while she was preparing for a throw down in the middle of the grocery store aisle, a pleasant conversation with the male will suffice. she finds that she’s at her happiest when she’s around him, and that’s certainly a rarity in johannah land. “ what can i say ? i’m a habitual liar, i can’t help it. it’s quite sad, lucas. i need to see a professional, ” she says, batting her eyelashes for a moment and trying her best to appear at least somewhat innocent. she smiles as lucas addresses elias, because besides sebastian, he’s the only male that elias seems to like… that jo has observed, anyway. “ didn’t know i’d be here this morning either, i’ll tell you what. i went to make breakfast, and i realized we had, like, nothing ? i don’t mind going without, but i mind if elias does. it’s alright to see you, i suppose. just alright. might’ve made my morning a bit better. ”

lucas lets out a scoff of indignation and an eyeroll at johannah’s attempt at playing innocent. “you’re not gonna sucker me, jo. i was too badly wounded,” he remarks, feigning hurt. “it’ll take ages for me to get over the psychological damage you’ve caused here.” he sets his basket with a small assortment of random items in the cart she’s pushing. “d’you mind?” lucas asks. it never hurts to ask with jo-- even slightly irritating her is not something lucas would like to do. “i can push.” he adds, gesturing towards the cart. the dark haired male listens to jo’s explanation of how she ended up at the supermarket that morning, nodding as she speaks. “could’ve texted me, i would’ve brought breakfast ‘round. ‘m not working today,” he says, the relief of being off from work, even for just a day, evident in his voice. “being hit by you versus some other asshole  made my morning better, personally. ’s alright to see you too. just alright,” he repeats, in the same faux devil-may-care tone she had adopted, a smirk on his lips. seeing jo was, of course, better than alright, but their dry humor was something they had in common. “seeing this one--” he adopts a smile ( a wide, genuine smile, rare for lucas ) as he returns his gaze to elias. “more than alright. missed the little one. what’re you two up to today?”

delilah couldn’t help but crack a smile, glad to be with someone familiar. lucas was like her own little slice of brigton in whitby. “i can’t believe you gave in that easy. i was ready to beg and plead,” she said, shoving his shoulder gently with her own. she eyed the plate of food and grabbed a couple chips, popping them in her mouth with a satisfied grin. “’s not too far from work. plus, the view is spectacular, y'know?” it wasn’t often she came out to the pier, but when she did, it took her breath away. “but either way, the fish and chips are the best out here.”

lucas shrugged, amused. “i am too. i guess today ‘m just too tired to put up a fight. long ass morning at work,” he sighed, taking a slurp from his soft drink. he smirked as she shoved him, nudging her back before returning to the food he now shared with the brunette. “it is. and it’s not as loud as the pier with all the booth games and shit. that incessant music coming from those things could drive a man mad, i don’t know how people work there,” he remarked. “exactly. i mean, a couple places in town are good, but there’s so many people there too. and you usually have to wait in line...” he rolled his eyes, his impatient nature showing through. “not about it.”

so this was the sort of day they would have. a small huff escaped lucas’ lips, as he did not exactly have the patience for such an interaction ( he hardly ever did, to be fair ) but, as usual, felt the need to make an effort for jasmine. “alright, i guess i had that one coming,” he remarked, raising his eyebrows and tightening his jaw slightly. “i guess sometimes you’ve got to let go, be yourself, and be a bit salty.” his words were spoken at a lower volume, but if she heard, he didn’t care. still, he tried to be polite. “how’ve you been?”

delilah’s favorite spot to go to clear her mind after a shift at the coffee shop was the pier closest to it. it was always pretty quiet – mostly locals, an amazing view, and in her opinion, the best ( and cheapest ) fish and chips around. at the end of the pier, she spotted a familiar figure and made her way over, not bothering to stop for food on her way. “well,” she said, a smirk on her face at his words. “i was in the market for some fish and chips and–” she paused, leaning over to check out lucas’ food, “i see you’ve got some.”

lucas’ irritated scowl ( which seemed to be his default, by this point ) disappeared at the sound of the voice he recognized-- delilah. she had known him back when his default actually wasn’t an irritated scowl. the male looked over at her, amused expression now on his features. “i do, yeah. hey you.” he nodded towards her by way of greeting. “oh, fish and chips like these?” he remarked, teasing tone as he pointed to his plate of food. he took a bite himself, dramatizing his expression of enjoyment.  “i guess i could share.” an eyeroll, pretending to be irritated at having to share his food, but he gladly slid the plate over and allowed delilah to take her pick of whatever she would like to take.. “you come all the way out here for a meal?”

not really a spot for secrecy, but freddie went to the pier to get high and then look at the ocean waves, contemplate life and things like that. but, seeing how there was a person there, he was going to try his hand at being nice – maybe. taking a quick drag of his joint, freddie arched a brow at the other, scoffing as he heard the other’s remark. “’m here to get my mind off things,” he answered, clear as day, dangling his joint between his fingers, glancing at the other. “don’t worry; i won’t distract you or anything.”

lucas glanced over at the figure that had appeared beside him. “well, i guess we’re here for the same thing. it’s a good place to do it.” he takes a bite of his food before speaking again. “thanks. it’s appreciated. most people i run into seem to want to either argue or--” or ask about how my mother’s doing these days, with a pitying look for the son of the fallen politician. “or talk about things i don’t want to talk about,” he settles upon. “refreshing. sorry if i sounded rude.”

“no, i’m fine. i’m here to watch for any birds and it sometimes works better than the tourist spots.” fable explained, side stepping a couple times to put a little distance between them and the male before sitting down and letting their legs dangling over the edge of the pier. “what about you? like you said this isn’t exactly a tourist spot.”

the pleasant demeanor and tone of the voice put lucas at ease; immediately, he felt remorse for beginning such a conversation with biting words and an irritated voice. “bird watching, hm?” he softens his words. “that’s one i haven’t heard in a while. but they are interesting to watch,” lucas remarked. “calming, for sure.” he looked over for a moment to take note of his company and nodded in their direction before returning his gaze to the water. “just getting some air, i guess. the place isn’t crowded. and to think some.” he shrugged. “don’t particularly like tourist spots. not cause they’re not nice, but ‘cause of the tourists.”

              every time she wanted to stay clear of all stresses  &   was looking for an environment that made her feel relaxed   &   somehow  PEACEFUL,   she was automatically led there by her feet.   at first she didn’t realize the area was  ‘preoccupied’,   but then faced the silhouette of one of the few people who could make her  upset  almost  INSTANTLY.   peaceful was the last thing she’d feel there under these circumstances.   it was too late to search for another safe haven,   plus he had already spoken to her   &   it was not in her character to walk away from situations that made her  uncomfortable.   ❛    yeah,   thanks,   but i’m not  particularly  interested in tourist hotspots.    ❜

shoulders tense slightly when lucas realizes who is speaking to him. jasmine. he isn’t afraid of her or trying to avoid her, by any means, but he doesn’t particularly wish to deal with biting words of sarcasm or veiled comments in his direction. “i wouldn’t expect you to be.” he stands up straight and turns around to face her, trying to read her expression and demeanor for any hints as to what kind of interaction they would be having today. “didn’t mean to be an arse-- didn’t know it was you.”

it was a GETAWAY for grayson, for him to clear his head without it being a physical fight with another person. the place was the most calming thing that gray had in his life amidst the hustle and bustle of his very hectic lifestyle of being a mechanic, plus part time face crusher. as he approached the figure, he almost laughed at their words, “really? it’s a public place, my dear, but would you like me to ask the same of you?”

irritation rises in lucas quickly at the sound of the voice behind him. “no,” he responds, jaw tightening slightly. “i’d really rather you didn’t, mate.” he glances in an attempt to see the figure nearing, still unable to tell, and not immediately recognizing their voice. lucas attempts to explain himself. “i just didn’t want to have to take some tourist family photo or some shit like that.”

parker really needed to clear his head. what was supposed to be a simple nap resulted in him having a dream – no, more of a nightmare – about his ex that never seemed to end. waking up with a start, he grabbed his keys, walked out the door and just started walking. he’s not entirely sure how he ended up at the pier, but he didn’t hate it here, so he wandered around before a voice pulled him out of his thoughts. “shit – sorry, i didn’t even see you there,” he said to the person, before he recognized the voice. “oh. you’re lucas, right?” he asks, even though the other man hasn’t turned around. “we live in the same building. sorry, i didn’t meant to bother ya, by the way.”

hearing his name causes lucas to raise an eyebrow, intrigued, and turn around to face the source of the voice. he recognized the male before him-- had seen him coming in and out of the building before. “yeah,” he nods. “yeah, that’s me. holubec,” he adds his last name by way of greeting and introduction, holding a hand out for him to shake with a shadow of a smile appearing on his lips. moody, but not rude or anti-social by any means. “you-- you’re parker, innit?” he hopes he’s not too off, although doesn’t think too deeply about it. “yeah, yeah, i recognize you. didn’t mean to bite your head off, either. sorry.” he shifts his weight on his feet. “don’t worry about it. i probably shouldn’t be such an arse to strangers sometimes.” lucas chuckles lightly. “some days, though, y’know?”

one of jo’s least favorite activities is grocery shopping. it’s simple enough, sure, but she always ends up in the same predicament; goes to the store for one thing, and leaves with ten more things ( and usually without the item she was originally there for ). she’s just about finished, when she spots someone she knows… or, rather, she thinks she’s knows. their back is to her, so she can’t be certain, but that doesn’t stop her from walking over and deliberately running her cart into the backs of their legs; nothing hurts quite like that does, she used to do it to her mother all the time, and she has a look that conveys just how smug she is. “ oops ! i’m sorry, i didn’t see you there… my son was blocking my view, ” she says, nodding to the small child in her cart that was most definitely not blocking her view in the slightest. jo lived to get a rise out of people, and this seemed like the perfect way to do so.

a huff of irritation escapes lucas’ lips before he hears the voice behind him. immediately the annoyance disappears, evaporating in a heartbeat; he turns around with a smile ( wide and beaming for him, but slight by most people’s standards ) and an eyebrow raised. “didn’t see me, jo? that stings almost as much as the hit.” he adjusts the basket he’s holding and nudges her with his elbow. “y’know, he’s not that big yet. the lies and hurt just don’t end with you,” he remarks, although the air of sarcasm and teasing also seems to fade away as lucas draws near to elias. “hey, mate.” he takes one of elias’ small hands in between his two fingers. “your mum’s a piece of work, y’know. hitting strangers in the salisbury’s.” the dark haired male looks back up at jo. “didn’t know you’d be here this morning. but a good surprise, if there is one.”

A LONG early morning at the law offices he worked at resulted in lucas taking off to one of the piers that dotted the shores around whitby. the one he’d selected was his usual place to stand and collect his thoughts, or occasionally sit and have a beer. buildings were still in sight; his car was parked by the beach along with others who passed their time on the sands and rocks, among the waves. a couple of stands dotted the pier-- lucas had picked up some fish and chips from one, and leaned against the railing at the end of the pier as he ate. hearing footsteps behind him that interrupted his thoughts ( jumbled, as almost always ), and, without turning, he remarked, “can i help you? this isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot. looking for something?”
