Liam sat on the edge of his ship, he focused on a soul on land, not a normal soul, it was different. Magic cursed through her, he thought.
âOi you, who are you?â
âIt was a sailorâs burial! I thought thatâs what you would have wanted!â How could his brotherâs gaze be so cold? Was it not the same Liam, the man heâd called Captain, the man heâd looked up too ever since he could walk? The man that had inspired him to join the Navy, whoâd encouraged him to work his arse off so that they would finally get to command a ship side by side?
His jaw clenched, eyes flashing with anguish before he schooled his features and took a step back at the comment about his heart. âDonât you think I would have gotten it back if I could by now? Itâs a bit of a lost cause, even if I could tell you who has it.â That Crocodile would stop at nothing to get what he wanted, and Hook doubted the bloody imp would even let the heart out of his sight.
He reached up, scratching behind his ear as he studied Liam. So he had lost his heart as well? And his soul? What the hell went on in the sea that he wasnât privy to? What the hell had happened that had turned Liam into his crewâs worst nightmaâ-
No. No way in hell.
Because he could only think of one such vile, iniquitous creature that would fit that title. One that struck fear into the hearts of his men, one who even put the Captain himself on edge upon mention.
ââŠYouâre Davy Jones.â
He was impressed with his brother. Not many would have made the connection this far, but Killian, after a moment of contemplation had uncovered the truth within seconds upon the mention of what he did to the crew. How weird it truly was. The sea devil smirked. âAye, little brother, the one and only.â And as such he would find out who took his brothers heart and punish him immensely. âAnd as such you know Iâve grown a bit possessive with whatâs mine.â That included Killian. If someone killed him, it better be him. For now, though he wanted his brother alive and that would be achieved. âNow, though, little brother, we will get your heart back where it belongs for the time being and Iâll see to it that the bastard is punished. Given the magical beings in this godforsaken place, my guess would fall to three people. Was it Blue, our dear not so innocent fairy?â
âI killed your toy boy. I killed your toy boy.â

âI canât let you do that either,â Mina told him, âSort of frown on slavery too. Itâs a little known fact about me.âÂ
Bloody hell, when were people going to stop making deals with little devils?Â
Mina shuddered as he told her that. She thought of Jonathan, how she believed that he was in a better place now. She had to, it was the one comfort she drew from all that. But if he wasnâtâŠ
âActually, if my loved one wasnât resting in peace, Iâd want to know. Because it would mean he was still alive.âÂ
Daveyâs manipulation wasnât going to work.Â
âThen I wonât. I waited 300 years, a bit more or less wonât bother me.â Not in the slightest, as long as he got what he needed in the end. Maybe his situation got changed until then, but if he had anything now, it was time. Liam turned and walked to the bench. âYou donât mind, do you?â He sat down and then turned to her again. âThat is quite possible then. Every case is different, of course. I assume your loved one had a different fate and you donât know what I am. Killian however has an idea of what Davy Jones is. And it would kill him to know it is me. He would not stop until he frees me, which might easily kill him.â Liam offered her a smile. âYou donât trust me, I understand and expect nothing less. Youâve got people to protect. Iâm not going to tell you I am trustworthy, far from it. But I am going to offer you a bit of an advantage: I dry out.  I need water around me to keep me wet, otherwise I dry out. I loose my powers slowly, first, then the ability to move and express myself. Iâll be nothing but a helpless fish on land.â
Mina didnât answer his question. No, of course they didnât call him that here, thatâs why she said thatâs why they called him that. She thought sarcastically.Â
He didnât make any move to harm her. But Mina still kept the gun up. She felt safe. She had always felt safe with a gun in her hand since she started hunting.Â
âI canât let you harm anyone here,â she told him. She wasnât sure how she would stop him reallyâŠ.but sheâd find a way . Anyway, this was just an assertion that if he caused trouble, sheâd get in the way, âJones is a common enough name. Didnât seem pertinent to figure there was a familial connection. And why didnât you introduce yourself to the lovely captain?â she asked and then smirked, âYou donât want him to know youâre here, do you?âÂ
âTechnically Iâm not going to harm them.â For a certain time. âIâm making them part of my crew for a certain number of years.â He smiled, almost softly at her, as she made the connection. He dinât buy it from the beginning, that she didnât know, that it was a common enough name. She was close enough to Killian after all. âBecause he thinks Iâm dead, as simple as that. And I am, technically, which is why your gun wonât do much harm. But keep it up, I donât intend to give you a reason to use it on me.â He sighed. âKillian is my brother. And he thinks I died long ago. He thinks I met my end and my soul rests in peace. If it was your loved one, would you want them to know youâve turned into... well this? A monster? Especially if the reason you became this is how he chose to bury you?â
Most monsters that told her that bullets couldnât hurt them were usually lying and trying to get her to lower something dangerous down away from their faces. Mina wasnât so stupid to believe it usually but she had a feeling that this time, this was one was telling the truth. She still kept her gun up though. It felt safer than being vulnerable.Â
âThe ruler of the seas?â Mina asked in amusement, âAnd the hits just keep on coming, donât they? What do you want?âÂ
âRuler of the sea? Is that what they call me here?â This world was interesting. He had heard of that before actually, but this time this tumbled off the lips of someone who was not normally involved with the maritime world. âIâm not the ruler of the seas, to get that one straight. More the reaper, but all of that are details and you probably donât want to hear about that.â He held up his hands, normally a sign of surrender or meaning no harm. âI mean no harm to this town, only to a few residents in it. Pirates, sailors, who traded with me. Some are overdue to pay their debts. And I want to see what itâs like. I have no evil plan, not this time. I admit, normally I would. But as you can maybe deduce from my last name: I have family ties here.â
Mina rolled her eyes. âall we can doâ, sounded like she was the one doing all the work, âTHanks for all your help, Hook.âÂ
She saw the sailor or whatever he was catch her eyes. Like he wanted her to meet him out there. She sighed and walked out to meet him, cautious all the way. When she rounded the corner, Mina jumped as she saw him drop the glamour, âBloodyâŠ.hellâŠâÂ
Her gun was out before she could process it, âWho are you?âÂ
Bloody hell, straight out of Killians vocabulary it seemed, only he wasnât sure if it was indeed from his brothers words that she picked up the expression. It didnât matter. Davy checked once again if they were hidden from view. âYou might as well put the gun down. It wonât kill me anyway. Save yourself the shot.â She might need it on some other opponent and since it was rather useless on him, given that she had no clue who he was. With the knowledge and research there was a way she could find a way to slow him down immensely. âThey call me Davy Jones.â Â
âHm? Ohâ Apple fritters, Iâm trying a new recipe out, would you like one?â
âWhat are apple fritters, love?â

Mina leaned against the wall and watched the interrogation continued. She tried to rationalize her suspicions. It was probably nothing. HE was a scared guy in a place he didnât recognize. Of course heâd be confused.Â
But if he was from antoher world and he was truly confused, woudlnât this world confuse him more?Â
"Any good lie holds up," she muttered, "Somethingâs wrong. I canât put my finger on it and donât ask me to explain the hole I see in it. But itâs wrong. You know that feeling , we all know that feeling."Â
She looked over at the man, âWhat are we going to do with him?â Â
âWatch him, for now. Thatâs all we can do right now.â Liam sighed as he overheard his brother. Well, that changed his plans a little. It would grow suspicious with him having to actively seek out water after âalmostâ drowning after all. Time to drop the charade maybe. But only with her. He sought eye contact, hoping to question if sheâd join him outside. He went right ahead.
Just out of side the man dropped his glamour, appearing as the dark man he always was these days.
Mina looked back as the people stared and closed her umbrella. She slipped out of her coat and never took her eyes off them. They might recognize he was a stranger too. 28 years of everyone knowing everyone will do that.Â
Mina placed a strained smile on her face when Hook entered the room for Henryâs sake. She slipped the boy a dollar so he could go get a sweetâŠ.like she always did when they met in the diner. She turned to Hook âHe says heâs from Blackbeardâs crew on your ship. I thought you might want to talk to him. Somethingâs not right. I donât like it.â Â
Liam heard the conversation and prepared to come face to face with Killian in a conversation. It would be easy enough, if the magic held. And it did. Killian did as the woman asked him to and engaged him in questions about his life and so on. For a few questions he was so tempted to just reveal himself, scare some residents to death probably, but he held back. The only clue that had him pale was, that he had been a naval officer before, before his captain tricked them. Close enough to have him pale and change the subject for a bit. He listened in as Killian reported back to the woman. "For the most his story checks out. He knew the Jolly well and he was not part of my crew so he must have been Blackbeards. The way he got here is not impossible. I get where you get the feeling from, but so far the story checks out. He's one of Blackbeards so we need to stay careful."
"I tend not to believe most of what Hook says. Frankly I just tune him out," she brightened at the next thought, "And the bitch that brought us here. My world is a tranquil quiet place."Â
Well at least until Grumpy saw something.Â
She nodded towards the door. She had no idea if the A Team was there or not, âThatâs the place.â Â
He smiled almost softly as they entered the house. This was great. This wasn't quiet like his ship. It was joyful. Those people were enjoying themselves until they noticed the woman and the stranger she had in tow. He was tempted to look away from the scrutinizing glances, when Killian entered the room, carrying a back, followed by a boy. He knew he froze as he saw him, but with the explanation provided the woman might understand, while inwardly he hoped and prayed he would not recognize him.
"The one and the only," Mina brushed her hair back. SO he traded his ship to a guy famous for setting his beard on fire and wearing multiple guns because of his paranoia, "Iâm sure heâll want to ask you all sorts of questions."Â
Mina shrugged at him talking to her about a vendetta, âTheyâre pirates, Iâm sure they hate each other just for that.âÂ
He actually had to honestly chuckle at that. Not too bad. She observed that well. "Right you are, lass. A lot of pirates carry grudges just for being a rivaling pirate, as I have heard. You probably heard a lot of tales, possibly more ridiculous than any tale I could spin. I am just a deck hand, a simple sailor following my captains orders." Or well the captain who gave the order. He hoped the disguise would last. It would be terribly embarrassing if Killian saw straight through it. "Is that the place?"Â

The devil rarely announced himself. Tonight it was slightly different. He summoned one of the sailors he made a deal with, a sailor he knew to have served under Captain Hook on the Jolly Roger. He sent the man to get his former captain, Killians own brother, which the pirate didn't know. Hell not even Killian knew he was Davy Jones brother. Davy sat on one of the docks, feet hanging into the water, his magic making the waves around him glow in the light. It was a conscious decision to put himself in the open like that. Some pedestrians stopped, but he didn't pay attention to them. They were not the person he needed to speak to. The person he hoped would hurry up to the docks was the one he needed to speak to. If he didn't come soon, he'd simply have to make his demands heard across the entire town.
