Filmmaker Willie Witte is currently working on a documentary series for PBS but in his spare time he makes fun experimental films. His latest, SCREENGRAB, was made without the help of computer effects though I can’t quite figure out how. After watching this three times the hemispheres of my brain are the equivalent of cross-eyed. Music by Kevin McAlpine. (via colossal)
In an effort to provide abused children with a safe way to reach out for help, a Spanish organization called the Aid to Children and Adolescents at Risk Foundation, or ANAR for short, created an ad that displays a different message for adults and children at the same time.
The secret behind the ad’s wizardry is a lenticular top layer, which shows different images at varying angles. So when an adult—or anyone taller than four feet, five inches—looks at it they only see the image of a sad child and the message: “sometimes, child abuse is only visible to the child suffering it.” But when a child looks at the ad, they see bruises on the boy’s face and a different message: “if somebody hurts you, phone us and we’ll help you” alongside the foundation’s phone number.
The ad is designed to empower kids, particularly if their abuser happens to be standing right next to them. And while this is a great and worthwhile use of lenticular images, how long will it be before toy companies start doing to the same thing to hawk their products directly at kids?
This video featuring Athens-based graffiti writer iNO perfectly captures his ability to turn quick gestures with a spray can into something that almost looks as if it was produced with aid of a camera. Many of the artist’s interior and exterior works incorporate the idea of two faces or figures merging, either morphing into each other or growing outwardly. Watch the video above to see it all come together.

The short film “L’Equip Petit” (“The Little Team”) tells the story of a team of 14 boys and girls who never won a game or even make a goal. But that arr still happy.
The message is a lesson for children and adults. A sensitive film, leaving the boys have always defeated, because “the opponents are too big” because “we do not do many passes” or because “we were very nervous.” Regardless, they always celebrate and come home happy after a fun day.
