𝐚 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐧𝐨𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞. manicured fingers are quick to push it back in place behind her ears. ❝ i think objectively that is a better award. ❞ a small shrug. ❝ i could never earn one, so i would have to say you win this battle of accolades. ❞ her music wasn't nothing, but it wasn't big yet. she was only making enough to get by and even then she still kept her barista job to make sure if it were to all go away tomorrow she would still be okay.
Oliver smiles again at this flattery, his cheeks dimpling with the force of it. "I don't know about that," he counters while picking up a spoon, idly stirring his coffee as he speaks. The coffee shop around them feels more like a stepping stone in her path---at least that's what he's hoping. "You're very talented, Savannah. I think it'll all amount to something someday."
I know you fucking hate me. I don't ... hate you.
@lickedtheplate plotted a starter !
it had been a particularly rough session this week, farleigh had been given the floor, his essay was supposed to be the point of review this week. but he'd shown up with nothing instead, having procrastinated too much and partied too hard, leading up to the whole thing finally came crashing down upon him in one big crescendo that even farleigh couldn't control. he, of course, should have expected nothing from the likes of oliver when it came to saving him from what could only be described as sheer humiliation.
farleigh had been on the floor near the professors feet, giving every excuse as to why he didn't have the essay on hand. and the harder professor ware pushed back on him, the more farleigh started to break down because of it. but the worst part about it, at least to farleigh, was the fact that none of his usual tricks worked. the coy looks or the suggestive banter, all had gone unnoticed by the older man. he'd practically been sobbing at the professors feet, yet all ware did was scold him further, tell him how he was wasting everyone's time by showing up empty handed. and oliver, yeah, oliver could've said something. because farleigh knew he already had his essay completed — he always did, he was one of the biggest overachievers farleigh had ever come across. but instead of saying anything, he just sat there, saying nothing ... for once in his life.
but at least, if anything, it's now over. and farleigh's tucking a book ware had given him to read before their next session into his satchel when he feels the eyes of oliver piercing into him like daggers. tears were already beginning to dry on farleigh's cheeks, causing them to itch, and a hand lifts to wipe them from, not wanting anyone to see just how badly he'd broken down. everyone except for oliver, that is.
he's sure he's gloating in it, though he doesn't look over at him to give him the satisfaction of knowing he’s aware of it either. why couldn't he just leave? wasn't watching that whole thing enough material to jerk off to for the next month or so? though, he supposes, he's just trying to milk the last remaining moments of the breakdown he just witnessed — he knows he would if things were reversed. but he also thinks that maybe, just maybe, he would've attempted to rescue oliver from something like that, if only to save himself from having to sit through watching it for over an hour. ❛❛ don't. ❜❜ he says after a moment, snapping the front of his book bag closed. ❛❛ whatever it is you're about to say, i don't want to hear it. ❜❜
Tutorials are usually the bane of Oliver's existence. From the first day, he's gone far beyond what any other student would have given Ware's reaction to completing the summer reading list. The King James Bible is on there. Telling me you spent you spent your whole summer reading the Bible? The man's incredulity had stung his pride only briefly as his peer had been late and somewhat unprepared. But even so, the Catton family name had already gained Farleigh points with their advisor---points Oliver could never achieve no matter how hard he worked. But today brings a well-earned comeuppance for Farleigh. No amount of scrambling, pleading, or flattery is working on Ware. These rich boarding school psychos---they don't know how to work, how to earn anything that hasn't been handed to them on a silver platter. Farleigh is no exception to the rule. The tears he doesn't expect though. Outwardly, Oliver is still as this breakdown happens. Inwardly, he feasts on the other boy's misery. While Oliver hasn't instigated this failure, he'll take the spoils. As they prepare to depart from Ware's office, he has the same book tucked against his chest, folded protectively with his notebook and other papers. Halting at Fareligh's side, his head is canted upward to meet the other's gaze. "I was just going to ask if you were okay." Oliver could gloat and lord this over Farleigh for weeks, and he will privately. For now, he has a pain point to press, a chink in Farleigh's armor, and it's one he wants to test. "But....if you're not interested in common human decency, I can just go straight to the library."
I don’t think you’re a spider. I think you’re a moth. I’m right, aren’t I? Quiet…harmless…drawn to shiny things…batting up against the window, just desperate to get in.

˙ ˖ ♫ @lickedtheplate request a song! - ❝ i don't like most people, but you're an exception. ❞
𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐡 𝐚 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐝. ❝ i am honored to achieve such a high praise. this is probably what it feels like to win album of the year. ❞ the girl is beyond elated. savannah tries hard to not care what people think about her, but she also tries just as hard to put herself in a position to be likable. the less scandals, the better in her opinion. ❝ if it is any consolation i like you too. ❞ its not as big of a declaration as his. she could be compared to a golden retriever. lovable, happy, loves everyone, lots of energy... the list is basically endless.
Oliver's smiles are typically scarce, but one is offered earnestly as Savannah's cheeks flush with new color. "I don't know if I have a musical...award equivalent," he admits before his pale eyes roll up to the ceiling with thought. "A Pulitzer, maybe." His smile turns sheepish as he references the nonexistent novel he pretends to work on at coffee shops. He raises his brows in question. "Would that be a satisfactory substitute?"

@lickedtheplate: ‘ i had a marvelous time ruining everything. ’
perhaps it's tongue in cheek and felix is just misinterpreting things, but felix is so livid he can barely look at oliver right now. he prods at the inside of his cheek with his tongue, jaw clenching as he glares at oliver's pitiful frame with his shoulders squared. "marvelous time gives the impression this was premeditated. you said you'd be on your best behavior for mum's gala tonight," felix chastises, arching a quizzical brow. he knew how much his husband enjoyed causing mischief, not unlike puck in midsummers -- but felix can't hide his disappointment. "this event is for charity, ollie. you know mum hardly has a charitable bone in her body," he reiterates, heaving a sigh as he tosses back a flute of complimentary champagne. so what if oliver said something mildly inappropriate to the sponsor and they pulled their funding? big deal. maybe the night could still be salvaged.
Oliver could make his own point about Elspeth's 'charitable' nature. What about all the Pamelas over the years? There had been more broken women like her, cracked porcelain dolls Elspeth entertained herself with until they bored her. But he's properly insensed Felix this time. Picking apart his mother's nature won't help the situation. Undoing the damage will take delicate moves. His expression softens with repentance as he sidles closer to his husband at the banister. "It has nothing to do with wanting to ruin your mother's night," he replies evenly. "I know how she is about throwing a party---whether it's for a good cause or not." His mouth curls into a reassuring Cheshire smile. "There's no greater joy for her." His lips purse with forced tension before he lets it go with a side, tilting his head at Felix with a direct look. "It has more to do with what our generous benefactor said than anything else."

I had absolutely no interest in being somebody else's muse.
I think you have to have faith in people before they earn it. Otherwise it's not faith, right?.
I am the somebody.
End of fucking story.
I'd believe your soul mate was somebody who had all the things you didn't, that needed all the things you had. Not somebody who's suffering from the same stuff you are.
I used to think soul mates were two of the same.
You have these lines you won’t cross. But then you cross them.
Passion is...it's fire. And fire is great, man. But we're made of water. Water is how we keep living. Water is what we need to survive.

Music is never about music. If it was, we'd be writing songs about guitars. But we don't. We write songs about women.
It hurts to care about someone more than they care about themselves.
You can't love someone back to health and you can't hate someone back to health and no matter how right you are about something, it doesn't mean they will change their mind.

I looked in that room, and all I saw was... temptation. It wasn't the drugs.
Everyone knows Daisy Jones & The Six, but nobody knows the real reason why they split at the absolute height of their popularity…until now.
I'm on my lunch break currently, buuuut if anyone would like to plot and get up to some shenanigans, I am all ears and my IMs are open. I'll also reblog some memes soon if anyone wants to get the ball rolling that way.

"You know, Oliver, if you're going to be hanging around with us all the time, you might want to think about fixing… this." Farleigh's fingers pluck at the stiff collar around Oliver's throat, drawing his attention to the other. Confused brows knit over his eyes as he angles a look at Farleigh. The fussy, straight-laced button-downs and slacks---it's not as if he hasn't eavesdropped on enough conversations to gleam the impressions. The scholarship boy parading in Oxfam charity hand-me-downs. More of his peers knew him by that description than by name. Even still, he can't help the sudden, defensive puff of his posture: the squaring of his shoulders, the tensing of his jaw. There's an indignant air as he raises his chin to address the taller boy.
"What's wrong with my clothes?" he asks.
Saltburn (2023) Directed by Emerald Fennell
what if i slithered my way back onto the dash? what then?
it really was hot out , jessie's shades covering emerald greens being lifted to the top of her head as she peers up from the book she's reading . " thanks , you're a doll. " jessie smiles back towards him . " shoulda brought my swimsuit . i'm genuinely envious of those people over there . " jessie sighs , using her long nails to crack open the can effortlessly , taking a sip . if there weren't a million families around , she'd consider stripping down , but jessie considers herself more self aware than to do that .
it was nearing the end of the day though, so there was only a little bit until the beach would clear . jessie pushes the book in the middle of them , scooting closer to oliver as she shrugs her shoulders . " i'm at the part where they're goin' into the sewer . " she hums , tilting her head . " i don't like clowns . this whole thing is just annoyin' me because they coulda just moved after the first time. " jessie rants , a sigh escaping her .
" read to me . these people should be gone soon and then i'll push you int'a the lake without judgement . "
Oliver's gaze flickered towards the people in the distance, the ones partying out on the lake and its meager shores. He'd been watching them as well---from time to time. A dip in the water would be a cure for the oppressive heat. He couldn't ignore how his shirt clung to his back or an errant sweat drop or two would wind down the side of his face. The novel was nudged toward him, and it was an easy acceptance. He didn't mind King at all, and Jesse seemed to be right. While the party had been raging on for a while, there were signs it was wrapping up: a gathering of garbage and things slowly being packed away into vehicles between banter and playful shoves. "Without judgment from other people?" he questioned with a slowly spreading smile. His fingers reached blindly for the corner of the next page, curling it between his fingertips. Her response was far more important than starting this next chapter. "Is that all that's stopping you?" he asked, an air of amusement and flirtation coloring his tone.
