okay, im ranting but this pattern in the bofb fandom is beginning to seriously irritate me.
i know people dont take liebgotts show iteration as truth and im not saying i agree or disagree, but despite this there is a serious problem with people being unconsciously biased towards liebgott in the show and perpetuating harmful stereotypes.
first, it started with the constant need for some people in this fandom to stick to the toxic trope between webgott which is genuinely a headcanon of their relationship because it doesnt reign true in their actual interactions. i mentioned in a previous post, but they have more interactions in the show being kind to eachother than they have of being unkind. this pattern just stinks of “i dont care for emotional depth in my ship” and fine, it doesnt have to be entirely accurate. im not gonna expect it to be, but it’s very noticeable when people in the bofb fandom purely perpetuate liebgott as an angry and aggressive man and webster as a man who enables it and is his saviour from his anger. it comes across as you view lieb as purely violent and webster as an accessory to liebgott for webgott to fix him. it just feels shallow and empty and boring and bordering on weird with how violent you want liebgott.
i see people constantly say “theyre so toxic” “they argue all the time i love it” and it’s just not true???
as i said, your ship can act however you want but to me, and while im not the messiah of knowledge, it feels like a bias towards liebgott.
secondly, i see a lot of people calling liebgott a rat, ratboy or comparing him to a rat and while some people mean it endearingly, there seriously needs to be more awareness put behind what youre gonna say. youre in a fandom for wwii, but you somehow miss the entire part of it that includes hateful stereotyping and comparing those that are jewish to vermin? im sorry, i try to give more grace to people about the way they view and portray webgott, but you’re seriously fucking ignorant and stupid to be into wwii history and a show that touches on the worst parts of it but not know the wrong in what you say. it seriously gets to a point.
i also know a lot of people in the bofb are younger, especially on tiktok so i try and give as much as grace as i can, again, but i cant just be silent in my anger about this shit again. i need yall to be more aware of what youre doing. and im not jewish. im not religious at all. im not going to pretend i know everything there is to know about judaism, but im not also going to sit here and not point out blatant harmful behaviour and rhetoric.
