#well rambly life update here we go #it's been a few months so things are a little more settled #new job started new home moved into #overall a very nice upgrade to life because now we're not 3hrs away from family/friends #love the new kitchen SO much #really was a huge labor of love from my parents (esp my dad)#love having a proper garden #but well #life throws curveballs #somehow we are back to being long distance #his job requires in person work #so does mine #and both of us are hoping our relative jobs establish us in stable careers #sooo we will play the waiting game #and hope that eventually we can change jobs #but we are building #we're making our home our little family #can't wait for him to come home permanently #life is bittersweet like that #but every weekend i get to see him makes life a little more colorful #a little less blue #and slowly the house is becoming a home with its own colors #we'll get there someday

#life is scary right now #and it's a lot to process #i'm not trying to be falsely or foolishly optimistic #but all we CAN be is optimistic #we survived 4 years of the cheeto #we are still seeing the repercussions ofc #but we survived #and there are new young folks every day #who are coming into adulthood more aware and intelligent and considerate than their predecessors #and all we can do is hope #we fight for our girls #we fight for our girls who need access to healthcare including abortion #we fight for our cis girls and our trans girls and tbh anyone who needs it #this kinda got away from me if you didn't notice #but anyway we take some time to rest #and then we keep going #because some day all those people who voted the cheeto back in are going to be gone #and we have to deal with the aftermath #so tomorrow is another day and we we keep going

the allergy i am seeing grow up around small talk in any form is troubling to me. do you know how to make friends with people in your physical environment? it typically starts with small talk. do you want to live in community? small talk. do you want to have the type of relationship with your neighbors where you can run over and borrow a battery for your smoke detector when it starts beeping at 10pm? small talk!! do you want leeway from your coworkers when you fuck up something small? you gotta be able to build a relationship and that's small talk, baybeee.

"but i don't need friends and i don't care about community!" okay, lone ranger, what about the people in your community who need you? "but i have social anxiety!" me too, bud! we simply must soldier on. making up lists of questions to ask people helps. and people are predisposed to be generous, i've found. even if you make some kind of mistake, what is this but the natural give and take of human interaction? nobody is perfect.

you were not put on this earth to live by yourself and then die. you need people and people need you. treat those around you with curiosity and generousness of spirit and you will gain so much goodwill in return.

#time for tmi in the tags bc no one reads this anyway and it's a way of me getting my thoughts out #like a journal but more chaotic and also i don't feel obligated to write every day #recently started thinking about my current job vs old job #both were pharmacy jobs and really it's all the same work at the end of the day #last location was awful bc pay was trash and staffing was bad BECAUSE pay was trash #like i was working two jobs at the time and sometimes considered calling out of my full time job bc i had much better pay at the part time #these were both PHARMACIST jobs where I did the SAME thing #complete prescriptions and answer pt qs and do vaccines and such #but walgreens paid like 23 dollars less per hour than costco did and walgreens was way more busy #anyway covid hit and people started somewhat valuing us i guess #people took vaccines more seriously and took their health/meds more seriously overall #so we were appreciated more and companies started hiring more #landed a new job at cvs where now i make actually good pay for a pharmacist #and yet cvs work is slowly piling up too #staffing changes and suddenly they want me to take harder shifts and sometimes have less staff #and like i knew the perfect team that i had when i started wouldn't last forever #but i feel like things are getting much harder much faster than expected #i was in survival mode at walgreens #burnt out and sad and exhausted all the time #barely saw my family or friends and broke down crying because of work to one of my managers #had my then closest friend ghost me because i took longer than usual to respond and she thought i was giving her the silent treatment #I WAS WORKING A SHIFT AND IT WAS BUSY GOD #I RESPONDED WITHIN 24 GD HOURS #AND SHE TOOK IT AS ME IGNORING HER #SHE AND HER BF (WHOM I SET HER UP WITH) HAVE ACTUALLY TRASH TALKED ME TO MULTIPLE MUTUAL FRIENDS #anyway that was a low point #and you know what?#it sucked but now it's over #i want all that behind me #i want to leave work at work

I truly hate to tell you all this, but the reason needle sizes are numbered that way (smaller numbers = bigger needles) is BECAUSE SOME ASSHOLE HAD A 1-INCH DIAMETER CYLINDER AND LABELED HIS NEEDLES' SIZES BY HOW MANY NEEDLES HE COULD SHOVE IN THERE.

Like, 24 24-gauge needles can fit in a 1-inch cylinder. 18 18-gauge needles can fit in a 1-inch cylinder. Wrong and horrible. The worst possible way to measure a needle. Good night.

genuinely tho. more and more frequently i interact with people online who shock me with how young they act for how old they are, because i associate that level of social and interpersonal inability with fucking. fourteen year olds. there is a noticeable deterioration of social skills and it's annoying as someone who actually knows how to talk to people, because i find myself having to almost parent people basically my age into learning how to properly communicate. no, just saying insults and then adding /lh does not mean you're friends with someone. you can't just call someone a bitch or a whore or any type of slur and get surprised when they aren't okay with that, because if you actually took a step outside you'd realize those are words that have a whole lot of weight behind them and online get thrown around by social infants with no clue how to properly talk to people.

people are always coming to tell me that i'm very nice or very welcoming, and i don't know how to explain this to you, but it's because i have actual social skills. i know how to be polite. i know how to listen to people. i know how to actually form healthy relationships with people who aren't just words on a screen. and it's come to my realization that not everyone does, which makes it extra exhausting to keep up conversations with literal adults who don't even understand the basics of interpersonal communication.

#literally taught a class a few weeks ago about communication within my profession #i hate when people think being book-smart is enough #it is not enough #if you know a bunch of stuff but fail to TRANSMIT that information to your listener #then you will have done no good #there is no point in spouting a bunch of medical jargon to a pt if they do not learn from it #by the end of your lecture your patient should know about their condition #including lifestyle modifications AND medical regimens #if your patient didn't learn either then you have wasted both your time and theirs #this also applies to any 'woke' content #like ofc you may want to educate your pts or older relatives #but if you come barging in making fun of them for being old or not knowing better #then you have only succeeded in turning them off from wanting to learn anything you have to teach them #being book smart and being woke are useless if you do not share your knowledge #thanks for coming to my ted talk
