A good or bad MC?
So I usually write in 1st person and have been for a good few years, I discovered that usually I get pretty close with my MC's, thinking of them as an actual friend rather than a character.
I'm my opinion, I think it's important to actually like you character.
Not just for your own sanity but so you can actually finish the book. Hell, you wouldn't want to be stuck in a room with someone you hated for years, so why would you for a book character?
My last book I hated my MC because everything she said (probably because I wrote it) sounded SO annoying and judgemental, she was supposed to be the hero of the book and I kept plotting against her. I think I hated her so much because I accidentally included all of the cliché aspects of a character -- I wanted her to be funny but she ended up more like a stale piece of toast.
However, my recent MC I absolutely adore. I think of him as a little goofball that I created and adore, like my own son. Enjoying writing a character really helps in my opinion and the whole process is so much easier, I have had little to no writers block so far and the story runs smoothly.
So, moral of this post, create an MC you enjoy reading and don't feel the need to stick to the norms.
