Life in Guard

I have been in winterguard for 11 years now. Here are some of the common things you hear, see and have happened to you while in guard.

Wow, its been a while since I have posted on here. I have been pretty busy with work but now that i’m off for the summer I have a bit more time. 

After the guard season we had our banquet. I have never really had a guard banquet before, we have had BBQ’s before but this was different. I wrote a speech, thanking people and remembering funny events from the season. By the end of the night I was crying. out of my 11 years in guard I have never been part of a team like this. They are my family and we got very close. Saying goodbye to these girls and instructors was one of the hardest things i have ever had to do. I live about 30-45 minutes away and i dont drive so its not like i can just meet up with them. I have joined a DCA (drum corp alumni) team for the summer and we were in a Canada day parade last week and I saw one of the girls and her mom while i was in it. The bad part was that I hit myself in the head with my rifle while doing a horizontal right in front of them. So it was embarrassing and funny at the same time. I miss my girls and hope to see them soon.

A picture of me at the NECGC Championships. We came 3rd in the independent A class. Not everything went as planned during the performance it was my last time competing because I age out (unless i compete in a senior guard). This was my favorite year and it will be one to remember.

With WGI worlds coming up in a little over a week, I think this is pretty important.

Where do you spin?

I currently spin with St. Johns winterguard in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. We compete in independent A. Prior to St. Johns, I was with Prizm Winterguard in Hamilton, Ontario which competed in A1. But with this being my final year I decided to compete with St. Johns because their are a lot more opportunities including more competitions are going to worlds. I want to be able to go to worlds one last time and also my mom used to march St. Johns girl drum and bugle corp.

For the 3rd week in a row I have ripped something. Week one: My pants, Week 2: my uniform, and now Week 3: a flag, and i mean like a major rip. I also hit my eyebrow with my sabre with my glasses on, I bent my glasses and hurt it pretty bad. Sad part was.... I wasnt even tossing when I hit myself.

Trying something new

Ok so im going to be trying some new things on this page. One of the new things I am going to be trying out is asking you guys to send me any questions you may have about me or my years in winterguard. Hello! What are some of your guys favorite guard quotes/sayings? My director wants to make buttons with quotes on them and sell them at our home competitions this season? Thanks!

My favorite is “the only things you should drop are the judges’ jaws” !!! Anyone else have any??

Here is a bunch of one's I use:

1.      Winterguard is the only sport where you can whip it, strip it and flip it in public

1.      Rifle: grab life by the butt

1.      Im to sexy for my sabre

1.      Make them so excited by your show they want to throw their babies on the floor as a sacrifice!!

1.      TOSS high, CATCH hard, Dance Big and Smile your heart out

1.      *Breath in the music and breath out your performance*

1.      Rifles have nice butts

2nd time

So I think I have a thing going. For the 2nd week in a row, I have ripped my pants. Well I should not say pants as it was my uniform. Bent down and my instructor starts pissing herself laughing telling me I ripped my pants. Thank god it happened like 45 minutes before we were to perform because we were able to sew it. Praying it doesn't happen next week.

First competition of 2015

So yesterday was our first competition of 2015. Your first competition is really important because you want to make a good statement. Well, we killed it. The crowd absolutely loved it. I did the best I have ever done before. That's not to say that the routine was absolutely perfect, but were going to go far this season.

2015 season

The 2015 season has finally started. Had out first competition today and totally rocked it. The crowed LOVED IT!!! Can't wait until next week.
