It’s Been a While: I made a thing. Also freshman year of college is over...?
So firstly, I finally crocheted something this year. It’s already May; my birthday has already passed, and finals are almost over. But I managed to get it together enough to (pull an all-nighter) making this graduation present for my Residential College Advisor. Here’s the link to Stephanie’s lovely pattern from her blog All About Ami--Check it out if you haven’t!--http://www.allaboutami.com/post/6345151773/graduationteddypattern.
There’s the teddy next to another project, Snuggles the Penguin, courtesy of Stephanie’s blog. A few notes about the bear, I used an E hook instead of a 2.00 mm hook and I added felt detailing to the ears and feet. I also only had 12 mm buttons for eyes instead of 9 mm safety eyes. But I think it turned out well all the same.
Before I delve into a bit of a self-reflection that I’m putting out into the internet for some reason, things more relevant to this blog:
CROCHET PROJECTS~~My current “To Crochet” List is mainly Pokemon, so...if anyone wants to suggest anything, let me know!
So it’s almost summer, and I have three days to cram for a final on Friday. This year has been quite a rollercoaster what with transitioning into college, and using all of my free time really poorly. But I have a couple projects for the future that I plan to pursue for my own gratification or perhaps self-improvement, a la Benjamin Franklin. These projects include: 1) learning how to use a computer (just kidding, but not really, I have this theory one day I’ll just look at a computer and it’ll explode) 1a) learning how to do graphic design 1b) learning how to use Excel more or less proficiently 1c) start learning how to code; 2) baking more (once the gas in our home turns back on...it’s been off for 2 months!); 3) doing more origami; 4) drawing more; 5) you guessed it, crocheting more!! I’m so excited; 6) sleeping more; 7) hanging out with friends; 8) this is a big one: getting fit. Freshman year has not been kind to my waist line. But I’m trying not to think of it as how my body currently dissatisfies me but rather about me wanting to improve for myself. I want to feel strong. 9) reading more! I have such a long reading list, including all the things I was supposed to read this year, such as translated Korean fiction from the 20th century, and The Tale of the Heike. My goal is to read 19 books this year, and I’m at 3, but I’m not giving up. 10) perhaps most important, enjoy myself! Smile and laugh as much as possible. Enjoy being with my family. I want to get back that glow and smile I had two years ago--don’t read this as that I’m sickly or gray, please. I love my life; I just know that I can do more.
In the past I’ve felt that I’ve wasted my time doing things that I didn’t feel were meaningful, but that stops this summer. No more bumming around on netflix. If I do that, I’d better be crafting at the same time or doing something else. This year in college has been about keeping myself at a level of high academic achievement, but this summer is about focusing on myself, but in a productive way. Anyway, thanks for listening to my ramblings and musings. Here’s to a prolific and fulfilling summer!
I hope everyone’s had a good year. Expect more posts soon!
