South African Band Beatenberg Get Retrospective with Vibrant New Single + Video.

Last year, the trio from Cape Town had one of the biggest hits of 2014 with their crossover collaboration with house music producer DJ Clock. The infectious ‘Pluto (Still Remember You)’, with it’s catchy soukous-sounding guitar melody and sweet crooning vocals from lead singer Matthew Field, it instantly became a nationwide hit becoming the most popular song on South African radio for over 15 consecutive weeks. 

Though they’ve released two follow-up singles Rafael and Chelsea Blackmore, the Paul Simon-meets-Talking Heads sounding Beauty Like A Tightened Bow reminds us of why we fell in love with the band in the first place. The short but sweet repetitive guitar riffs that come in at just the right times, the crisp but slightly wailing vocals that almost force you to want to sing along, and hook that lives up to its purpose. 

There’s also something to be said for the Paul Simon reference, more specifically his Graceland era. It’s no secret that Simon was greatly influenced by legendary South African group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Guess music is strangely and beautifully cyclical sometimes.
