Sometimes I want Jesus to do something big to draw everyone's attention to the gospel. Here's either a conversation I just had with him or a @TheBonnieRaitt song stuck in my head. Either way, it rings true.
The story of Jesus' vindicated faith inspires our faith in Jesus' name which produces results according to Acts 3:16.

No Yeah-But's
No Yeah-But’s
I had a Taekwondo teacher who used to say that he didn’t want to hear any “yeah-but’s.” If he told a student to do something, he expected them to do it without delay or excuse. He claimed the right to unquestioning obedience by virtue of his superiority in his field.
In the gospel, we see a God who will accept no “yeah-but’s.” By his scandalous arrest, abuse, and execution, Christ declared for…

Love Your Opponent
I read a story today that made me weep tears of joy.
Kenda Creasy Dean in her book Almost Christian, urges the church to reclaim the unmixed gospel as the basis for teen discipleship. Why? Because of an ESPN article on high school football, that’s why!
Grapevine, Texas—one of Money Magazine’s top 100 “best places to live” in 20072—is almost 90% white, has a $90,000 median family income, and…

This Site is Moving
In order to consolidate our online presence, we’re migrating the materials in Life Teams Support to our church’s new website. Look under the “Tools” tab for any resources you might have been using here. This site will go down after February 28th, 2017.

Out of Egypt Audio
Out of Egypt Audio
We’re using a story telling approach in our Life Team. Here is an audio of the Passover/Exodus story presented live: https://lifeteamsblog.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/voice-004.m4a

A Great Way to Facilitate Communication
In our Life Team, we’ve discovered that communicating everything with everyone can be a challenge. Facebook provides an easy format to post photos, events etc., but not everyone is on or checks Facebook. We also have an email group but not everyone checks email in real time and it’s impossible for the leader to know what’s been communicated to whom. I suppose I could call each person…

Ghandi's Seven Social Sins
Ghandi’s Seven Social Sins
We were in an Indian restaurant yesterday and a video displaying Ghandi’s list of seven social sins came on the television behind me. My son read them out loud and as he did, I started to think, “Wow, it’s like he’s describing this year’s presidential candidates.” Politics aside, though, his list does provide a piercing insight for anyone who’s willing to consider how their own path contributes…

Call it What it Is
Call it What it Is
I’ve had people commit offenses against me and rather than admit that their actions were hurtful, they would turn on the charm or try to be extra helpful. It doesn’t work for me. I suspect that wouldn’t work for you either and I know it doesn’t work for God. To confess means to speak the same thing as. When I sin, God doesn’t want to hear about how tired I was or how difficult the circumstance.…

When to Leave Your Church
I’ve left churches in the past. Most of the time it was because I was thrown out. There was that one time that a church shut down to keep us from coming there. We figured it was time to look elsewhere at that point. The couple of times that we left of our volition were over ministry philosphy. It wasn’t my preference to leave either time but after many requests for dialogue and a complete…

Faith Comes by Hearing
We’re using the Life Teams Meeting Process on Wednesday evenings. It’s been yielding some really good results. Here are some examples: Since its a story telling process, it has served as a powerful tool for intergenerational development. Our daughter who has always struggled verbally, has demonstrated a strong proclivity for learning, internalizing and retelling the stories. Story telling has…

How Not to Make Disciples
The Verge Network has contributed a lot of the “Missional Church” dialogue. I recommend their site and their resources. I recently came across this helpful post on “How Not to Make Disciples.” It includes a video clip from Francis Chan in which he demonstrates the obvious futility at some of the methods the church has used in this endeavor. The clip is only three or so minutes long. Please check…
