⭐️When you buy a magnet or hook from Wish/.com it’s for thousands of purposes and they don’t really fucking care. This place, the only people that would buy from them are lifters because we’re the only people aware of the store—they have a database of lifters personal info. I smell bullshit.

⭐️They appear out of nowhere, only selling like 4 products lifters buy. They message plenty of lifters to get the word. Using the shoplifting/lifblr hashtag on their post so anyone that sees it can look at notes and find nothing but lifters. It’s a floodgate for antis.

another tip for lifting while wearing a mask- do your best to hide your eyes when you enter a store (since they all have cams pointing at the entrance). I wanted a lot of crimestopper videos on yt and the footage they always use is from the entrance cam. I usually look down at my phone and have my hair hanging a bit in front of my face. Make it look natural!

Oh my goodness, I have no idea how old this ask is, I didn't notice it until now! I'm sorry! But hey, I'm planning on going to mîchæls tomorrow, so I could definitely spare some tips!

Note that, of course, every location differs greatly, and I can only really give you some vague tips to help with the general gist of the store. As often is with the art of lifting, you'll have to improvise the rest.

I suppose I'll start with your method of concealing. If you do on-body, well, there's not much to say, but if you prefer to use a bag, I'd recommend you find yourself an artsy looking one, or take a regular one and cover that thing in pins. The easiest way to blend in in an art store is to seem crafty.

I don't know much about how michàēls is in the way of tagging, as anything I've ever nabbed from there has been untagged, but of course, double check anyway. Better safe than sorry.

And, make sure you avoid cams. The one near me has a pretty good amount of them, spread out throughout the store, except for in the discount section in the back. There will usually be employees who check that area out every now and then, though, so if your store is similar, be careful of that. Mostly though, just keep an eye out for other shoppers or for employees. I'd also recommend you get a basket and put some items in there, including one's you don't plan to lift. Either ditch it before leaving or hand it off to an employee and politely ask them to take care of it, whichever you feel would be best.

Just be as wary as you can, try to blend in, and if you don't plan on buying anything, try to be quick. Have a question or a random item in mind (that you don't plan on lifting) in case an employee asks if you need anything, bc I always think saying that you're just browsing is sus.

Hello! I used to work there so here’s some of my tips!

The one I worked at was very small, and the only cams were had were over the registers, pointing at the entrance/exit, in the back to watch employees, one art aisle where the copics were kept, in the jewelry aisle, and lastly in the cash office where the drawers were counted after close. If you’re going to lift from something from either of those aisles, take two and conceal one when you’re in a blind spot.  All the other cams were had were fake. However, other locations may differ but regardless there are TONS of blind spots.

As far as how you dress, I would recommend dressing slightly up and classy. A blouse, nice jeans without rips, cute shoes, and a plain purse. That’s how a lot of customers we got dressed. Dressing artsy is going to make you stand out, and you want to blend in. Best place to do this is at a location in a good neighborhood.

Nothing was tagged as far as I know, but high value items (namely Cricuts) might be source tagged. We never put tags on anything ourselves. Also, my store didn’t even have alarms at the front so even if they were sourced tagged there’s nothing to beep if you walk out with it. I saw many, many walk-outs in the time I was there and there’s nothing we can do except note the time it happened and report it to the store manager. We can’t touch you, we can’t follow you out, if we suspect you’re shoplifting we’ll just CS you to death and follow you around straightening shelves. So if that happens, I suggest dropping and waiting a few months before you come back. Also, TAKE THE WHOLE THING. Don’t open it and abandon the packaging. We find that packaging and start to notice where a lot of it is stashed so we’ll keep a closer eye on that area. Other lifters doing that might affect you, so just take the whole thing.

If you want to fill up a hand basket, and lift what you want from it in a blind spot, just ditch it afterwards. We found abandoned basket all the time so we don’t even blink at it. I wouldn’t recommend handing it to an employee, we might remember you.

There’s usually one to two people on registers that will leave to go do put-backs if it gets slow. There’s one to two people in the frame shop but they usually stay back there working unless someone comes up to the frame counter. The store manager is usually only there during the day and leaves around 4-5. There’s also another day manager who also leaves around 5.

Employees there during the day are told to make laps around the store about every half hour to greet customers and ask them if they need any help finding something. Best times to go would be  close to closing. We’re usually too busy trying to clean up the store and close to attend to customers. There’s one closing manager. Keep an eye out for employees doing put-backs at the end of the night, we’re usually doing laps around the store and might turn into your aisle as you’re concealing.

We do inventory once a year. DO NOT lift anything during that time. We have to count every single item in the store, and compare it to how many we’re supposed to have according to our system. If a lot of something is missing when we just saw we were supposed to have more, that raises a red flag. We did ours in February if I’m remembering correctly, but other locations might differ.

Got my first MK

It was untagged and perfect 😍 store was high end, had no tags, no towers, unmammed dressing rooms, locked but they didn’t count etc.

ALTHOUGH conditions were ideal I was still careful!

Tips 1.) Dress for the store/shopping centre. (Don’t wear sweats and a baggy hoodie to a high end store)

2.) Confidence is key

3.) DON’T get greedy (I SO could have taken more than I did)

4.) Walk with an even pace. (Obviously if you “Gotta blast” do it

5.) Act like a normal shopper (Scan the area b4 you get there. Look arround

6.) DON’T TAKE TOO LONG UNLESS you are actually going to buy something.( Use cash not a card)

Extra.) Purse specific. If it’s untagged or you can untag it look at a few, pick one up, walk around and slip it on your arm, then go to dressing room and get u some. 😍

A bit of a warning:

According to LP chatter sites, many stores that had pretty much stopped apps due to Covid are resuming, this includes Tárgèt, Mèijers, Bèd-Bath-Bèyond, and several others. This means that many stores simply weren’t stopping lifters and now will, LP are HUNGRY to stop people, many of them are creepily manic about it and may even stop people that aren’t lifting just to get your fix.

Be incredibly cautious and wise in your lifting.

Remember that being fast and organized and prioritizing a small lift of needs vs wants is very important to not getting caught.

I work at a B&Ń and tonight I saw this in receiving! This basically explains the standards for placing RFID tags in books. As you can see, it’s only certain books that will be tagged, but it’s always good to check!

Also, be aware of the 20% off, 30% off stickers on the front of the books. In my location, these are almost always RFID stickers so remove everything you see! It won’t hurt to take off anything that could possibly make you beep at the door.

so what if all the lifters of tumblr got together and decided that for the entire month of december we will not lift anything for ourselves but we will donate everything we lift to people in need and charities. (u can still lift as gifts for ur friends or maybe a thing or two for urself as an xmas gift). think about just how many people in need will benefit. also since december is the month for xmas imagine all the kids who will get nice gifts they might not have been able to get before. December is also usually cold in many places (duhhh winter) so we could try to lift clothes that will help keep people warm like wool socks and long sleeved shirts and scarves etc. we can lift canned items from grocery stores and just everything we can to help people. 

im literally sitting in bed giggling and smiling out of excitement. i really want to do this and by december i will have my gold magnet and hook so i can make bigger hauls too :))))) wht do u guys think?

i volunteered at a shelter for quite a while before covid so if you’re looking to give back to your community this is a list of things homeless shelters and homeless people are in need of. please add to this post if you have more ideas!

any travel size hygiene products

this means deodorant, shampoo, body wash, toothpaste (and toothbrush), mouthwash, hand sanitizer, baby wipes, lotion, chapstick, things like that.

shelters will be more in need of the shampoo and body wash. the shelter i volunteered at had private individual showers and gave each person their own thing of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash like you see in hotels. they even suggested that you take those and donate them if you stay at a hotel.

TAMPONS AND PADS

i can’t empathize this enough. homeless people who menstruate and are in shelters need these so badly and people rarely think to donate them.

clothing

sure, this is assumed, but what type of clothing exactly? first, SOCKS! number 1 most needed clothing item homeless people say they need. clean, warm socks. after socks things like underwear and hats and gloves are most sought after. especially with a lot of places in the northern hemisphere getting colder now. if you can, sturdy shoes and bras.

larger/bulky items

backpacks or suitcases, blankets, tents, some outdoorsman stores have compact camping mats or mattresses that fold up really small. solar powered camping lamps, flashlights

food

with food you need to think,

will it stay good for a long time?

can it be eaten without outside tools?

does it look like it won’t taste bad?

if the answer is yes to these questions snatch it.

things like canned goods with the pull tabs are great, check for protein bars, raisins, pretzels, jerky, nuts, hell even candy don’t just go for necessities. when possible go for water too.

miscellaneous

these are probably what a capitalist would call “luxury items” or “comfort items.”

hand warmers, books, lighters, nice reusable bottles (easy to clean without a dishwasher though), a reusable utensils set, a box of plastic sandwich bags, hair ties, makeup, watches, reusable masks

it’s rough for a lot of people right now. i know some of y’all have incredible talent in this community. personally i’m going to use this list to practice praxis and be a little bit of a local robin hood next time i’m out. lmk if you use this!
