“I believe we as a people have capability of dying out. But the world? The world will keep living on, long after we’ve all passed. And it’ll be the world that brings us back if we did all end”. The young, but impressionable man spoke with avidity in the matter of fact, sharing his insight on that particular topic. The way Jon Snow spoke of it… the end of an era. But the end of the land of Westeros? The man wasn’t the same quiet colleague he remembered from back then.
“Truth be told: I believe the Starks have a hard time recalling other Houses in this region have suffered, and focus on their own suffering. Their survivors have changed so much… sometimes, it feels as though I’m looking at strangers with familiar faces. But I believe the threat they speak of… is real. Jon is many things, but a liar isn’t one of them”. Stubborn, impatient, unobservant… Yup, sounded like the stereotype of the Northern lords. ‘Just’ the person they need to represent the land as they go South, gathering support and such.
Lira found herself listening closely to what Cley had to say, caught up in the words he seemed to put such passion into. The part, where he basically chastised the Starks for their attitude, albeit not overly harshly, drew her attention especially It was a rare thing to see a Stark bannerman so openly criticise their overlords; most of them seemed far too stubbornly confident in their suzerain’s every action (to the point of getting pettily defensive, she noted in the furthest corner of her mind). At times, it made her feel uncomfortable for simply existing as a part of the family, that used to follow the Starks’ sworn enemies for so long. Hearing Cley speak of them this way, criticise them so openly... Made Lira feel more & more at ease in the presence of the man, even as he touched such serious topics.
There were, however, some other things in his speech to draw her attention.
“Does that not make you... worry?“ The choice of words might’ve been too casual for speaking with a lord of a house, & of one, that, in current political climate, probably held more power, than hers did. Yet again, his attitude gave Lira a sense of confidence in what she herself had to say. “People of this land just dying out. Do you really believe, that we could ever accept such a thing, as something natural, and wait for world, or gods, or whatever else it could be, to bring us back? That it would be no use to put up a fight?“ To imply something this grim... In all honesty, that did not sound like the lord Cerwyn, that came to her family’s keep some time ago. His attitude back then was far more light-hearted; Lira would not claim, that she got to truly know him from that visit, but the words he himself uttered moments ago suddenly found a response within her. Young lord’s face was familiar, but the way he spoke, the way he seemed to think, was not.
Something must’ve happened over the time between two of their encounters.
