literally the reason they have high charisma is because theyre such a liar thtas why!!! like so much that its not even really lying its more like permanently inhabiting the invented shell of a fictional person so nobody can see the real person inside.
look and obviouslyyyyyy someone comes looking for them during the plot. if they were a companion this would be their Plot Thing. who? idk. Why? I think they took something important when they fled the city and now some house is comingto get them. I think one of their sisters managed to sneak into another house post their house falling (siNafay/shi'nayne style) and she comes after them!!!!
"Doomed yuri" this, "doomed yaoi" that
WHAT ABOUT DOOMED SIBLINGS
What if we were two sides of the same coin. What if i lived in your shadow all my life but found comfort in the darkness and dont know what to do once youre gone. What if youre the only person who understands. What if you have have no idea what i went through. What if we went through the same traumas but ended up with oposite conclusions about our suffering. What if i dont recognize you anymore. What if i see the ghost of my former self reflected through your eyes. What if it never had to go this way. What if this was the only way things were ever going to go
and like they’re a liar. that’s so crucial they’re this prime honorable righteous paladin type and they’re a liarrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. not even lying on purpose so much as building a shell so thick nobody could ever see through it because they’re not really the person they need to be. guah
the crucial factor of vellinaes as yet unnamed house is the desperation. they’re some fuckass middle tier like #35 house and the mother is willing to do ANYTHING to get ahead. and for what. it’s not gonna change anything but they just keep scraping and fighting and they don’t have the resources to make it easy or pretty. selling your own sons to the pointless cause etc etc.
vellinaeposting again. look here’s what it’s really about it’s about that they have to be the one who’s Okay. because if they’re not then who’s gonna do it? it’s about the fact that vellinae cares about their companions obviously, and they trust them to do the right thing, but they can’t trust that any of these people have the ability to hold the group together. If vellinae wasn’t the one carrying the world it would just fall apart. who’s gonna stop the absolute if they’re gone? they want to believe someone else could step up, but they can’t help but be sure nobody will.
and because like… They Can Do It. that’s the thing is that they’re right, nobody else could handle the strain they’re under, and sure they can’t really LIVE with all that but they can survive where nobody else can. They’re not even wrong

thinking about my bg3 guy again (vellinae) and i really do think the core of their early relationship with wyll is like. local sisyphus finds other guy pushing similar boulder
not even that! local Atlas meets guy holding similar globe
6. How easily could your OC be convinced to do something that goes against their moral compass?
14. How does your OC want to be seen by other characters?
I'm gonna talk about Vellinae my current bg3 tav... i love them... before i answer the questions you need to look at them...
my beloved,
ANYWAYS!
for 6: not easily at all! They're a paladin (oath of devotion), and they were raised in a drow city in the underdark--for those who don't know a lot of d&d lore the vast majority of drow worship an evil goddess called Lolth and are. like. comically evil and conniving and backstabbing. Anyways Vellinae has a very strong moral compass and pretty much always has and when they were younger they had to act against it a lot of the time for their own safety, bc doing evil shit was the only way they could survive. I have this idea I've been working on in my mind palace where they like. learned about paladin oaths somehow as a child and "took an oath" (that didn't give them any powers or anything) while they were still a kid and that their oath kind of grew & changed with them until they left the underdark and could become a paladin for real, and it went from being something secret and shameful that they had to hide to the thing they valued most about themself (childhood transgenderism metaphor i See you). So to actually answer the question: they could Not be convinced. Ever
14: They want to be an ideal & someone to look up to. They never had any sort of role model, and so they really care about being that for other people. Within the context of the game, they want to be seen as a perfect leader, someone who doesn't doubt themself and makes all the right decisions; they're in a dangerous situation with a bunch of strangers, and since they're the de facto leader, they figure it's their responsibility to be perfect. In Vellinae's mind, they *can* carry everyone else's problems and protect everybody, which means they're morally obligated to do so--they promised to be a protector when they took their oath, and if that means carrying the world on their shoulders then that's what they'll do, because nobody else can. Their oath is what keeps them going and it's what saved their life as a kid, but the idea of it can make them push themself too hard in pursuit of perfection.
always chewing on characters who would Never do anything as vulnerable as admit what happened but the signs are all there. stark, shiny scars they brush off concern for. pains that crop up at strange times. obsessive habits they refuse to break and aversions they won’t explain. bags under their eyes and a thin face, no matter how competent they are at whatever task is set before them. a worn cog still turns. even if everyone can see the damage, it doesn’t need to draw attention. really.
i see your "i dislike characters who talk like theyve been in therapy its more fun when they dont know whats going on" but i raise you "theyve been in therapy for a decade and theyve read all the scholarly articles on the topic they know exactly whats wrong with them and yet they cant logic and reason and rationalise their way out of their mental illness and its driving them insane because they shouldve gotten better years ago and they feel like theyre on square one"
warning
really think mercy's defining character trait is a powerful attitude of "fuck you don't tell me what to do". Like he wakes up no memories chronic migraines inside a ship literally on fire and is just "fuck you don't tell me what to do" ing for like a solid month until he starts to grow a moral compass. this is important to me as god's strongest hater
i love that wyll is nice... he has a rapier and eldritch magics and kills people as part of his day job but it's ok he's literally nice. he has a running bit about the various fantasy dungeons(tm) you take him to where he critiques them for his travel blog... he still remembers how to dance courtly style from his teens but the only time he gets the chance for it is in the middle of a cursed realm... ceremorphosis is like the second to last item on his list of weird shit to worry about... what a great character
*grisps you* hey let's think about combatunits for a minute. thing that only knows how to kill gets offered freedom with the caveat that it has to give up its one & only purpose in life. you can be a weapon of war & treated as such or you can be a person but alienated from the only thing you know how to do.
