Assad Zaman as Armand The Vampire Lestat 3.01 "Detroit"
I like how the Failure recordings element allows for a more traditionally Lestat narrative style to overlay the whole thing—where we see Lestat trying to Prepare the audience or contextualize things or anticipate their responses, or getting ahead of himself. The way this story feels so present and alive and shifting as though he’s thinking it through for the first time, trying to anticipate and convey a story’s meaning even as he’s trying to tell it.
Lestat narrates/writes eight of the Vampire Chronicles, and in many ways the series is defined by that style—what Armand complains is Lestat trying to make meaning of the most arbitrary, stupid things he does. “He must make a gutter theatrical out of stubbing his toe.” But it’s really signature, and until now it’s never been adapted before. I think it’s something that can grow with the season as the stakes and emotional nuances begin to solidify and deepen.
