I'm writing a poem about myself and I have no idea what people in color guard are called, can you help me?
Some people call us guardies, some call us spinners. Its just whatever you prefer I guess!
I don't know if you do this sort of thing but my senior friend possibly sprained her wrist and doctors say it may take 2-3 months to heal but homecoming is in like 3 weeks so she may miss most of marching season... Keep her in your thoughts please
Of course I will! I'm really sorry that happened. IHope she gets well soon.
I'm not very experienced with guard but my director is wondering if gloves (the same ones used for sabers and rifles) help with grip on flags. I don't know how to answer that question because I've only ever used gloves for rifles not flags. Help?
Gloves are mainly used to protect you from hurting your hands while spinning weapons. (Because they hurt more to catch than flag) in my experience, they don't make too much of a difference when spinning flag
I mean I had a good summer with OC.
I'm a drum major in my school band and I have little experience with guard. I'd really like to march with a drum corps in the future as a guard member! Any advice? (P.S. I know the minimum of guard stuff, like cracker jacks, pop tosses, drop spins Flag tips or rifle tips or even sabre tips would be appreciated if you have any! :) thank you so much 💘💘💘 Maybe tell me what you found to be most challenging and how I can work and get better! I have equipment already btw! Except sabre! Thx again
I have never marched drum corps before and plan to next summer, but I do have some general color guard tips for you! Don't go a single day without spinning, even if its only for a few minutes. You don't want to get rusty, and even skipping a single day can make a huge difference. I would try to learn as many different tosses and tricks as you can because drum corps are very hard to get in to. I think rifle is probably the trickiest piece of equipment to spin well, but even if you can't spin rifle, most corps have flag lines that are just that, so audition for the things you feel most confident about. I don't know a lot about sabre, so I can't really help you there. Also I would recommend trying to build up strength and stamina by running everyday and making sure to spin everyday because you will need the muscle and stamina to march with a corps! I hope this helps and if you have any other questions don't be shy!
