Novel & Manhwa: Sweet Sugar Candyman | First Impressions Novel: Sweet Sugar Candyman (스윗 슈가 캔디맨)
Author: Arkana (아르카나) Publisher: Ridibooks As a teenager, Cheongmyeong finally confesses his feelings to the hyung who has known him since childhood.
The response?
"It's okay. These things happen."
And just like that, Cheongmyeong continues his full-time career as a professional sufferer, hopelessly in love…
After starting college, fate brings them together once again. Cheongmyeong ends up living with his hyung—partly by choice, partly... not so much.
The only problem?
Something about the atmosphere between them has become... strangely complicated.
Cheongmyeong continues to suffer spectacularly from his hopeless crush, while his hyung starts giving off some very suspicious mixed signals.
Manhwa-adaptation: Sweet Sugar Candyman (스윗 슈가 캔디맨) Original Novel: Arkana (아르카나) Artist: Lee Hana First Impressions
From the very first few chapters, one thing becomes clear: these two are absolutely hopeless when it comes to overthinking.
Cheongmyeong spends most of the story in permanent tomato mode over every little interaction with his hyung, while his long-time crush seems to be giving off... increasingly confusing signals.
To be honest, I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I try to explore different genres, and this happened to be one of them. The story features an age gap, explicit content, dirty talk, and a rather naive protagonist, so keep that in mind before starting.
This may not have been my favorite read, but I hope this post helps someone decide whether it's their kind of story.

Pillow Talk by Boy Season | Likite Quotes
Novel: Dear Twisted Dream | Reader's Reflection
Novel: Dear Twisted Dream (역몽에게) Author: Mongguball 4 volumes (completed)
Availability: No official English translation available (at the time of writing)
Trigger Warning: This novel contains a wide range of heavy themes, including emotional abuse, manipulation, gaslighting, violence, toxic relationships, and other potentially triggering content. Reader discretion is advised. Please take care of yourself and read at your own discretion. I honestly thought I'd need a therapist after finishing this novel.
Well... as the saying goes, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger 😅
And just to be clear—if someone offered me money to reread it, I'd politely decline.
Not because it's bad.
Because it's an emotionally exhausting psychological drama that never really lets you breathe.
On the other hand, if you're looking for a story that explores the darker side of human psychology, this novel might leave a lasting impression.
From the very first pages, it draws you into an emotionally oppressive atmosphere.
This isn't a romantic fantasy.
It's a psychological drama about control, manipulation, and the gradual breakdown of another person's sense of self. To me, the author doesn't romanticize those dynamics. Instead, the novel portrays helplessness and psychological control in a way that feels deeply unsettling.
The novel currently holds a high rating on Ridibooks, with thousands of reader reviews. Many readers focus on both protagonists when discussing the story. Many readers describe the male lead as genuinely frightening. His behavior is cold, calculated, and emotionally manipulative. At the same time, readers also comment on the protagonist's emotional state. You spend so much time seeing the world through his eyes that it's difficult not to feel the weight of his fear, despair, and emotional exhaustion. By the end, some readers found themselves thinking:
"That was an incredibly powerful story... but I need a little time before reading something like this again." So if you appreciate realistic psychological portrayals, morally difficult characters, and stories that aren't afraid to make the reader uncomfortable, Dear Twisted Dream may be worth your attention. 📌 Credits: Novel: Dear Twisted Dream Author: Mongguball

From BL to Edward Hopper 😅 | Likite Notes
While reading Diamond Dust, I found myself taking a small detour into the world of art.
The author doesn’t simply mention famous painters in passing. Their works are used to reinforce the mood and emotional atmosphere of the story.
One of the artists referenced in the novel is Edward Hopper.
Why Hopper?
He's best known for paintings that capture loneliness and emotional isolation. His characters are often surrounded by other people, yet they still seem emotionally isolated from the world around them.
The longer I looked at his paintings, the more I understood why the author chose to mention him.
The protagonists in Diamond Dust often find themselves in a similar situation. Even when they’re surrounded by others, they still carry a profound sense of loneliness.
Interestingly, Hopper himself was known as a rather reserved and private person. Sometimes it almost feels as though the quiet atmosphere of his paintings reflected part of his own inner world.

Diamond Dust & Basel | Likite Notes
While reading Diamond Dust, one small detail caught my attention.
The novel mentions Basel, a Swiss city that’s described as an important center of art. That made me wonder just how accurate that was.
As it turns out, Basel really is remarkable. Despite its relatively small size, the city is home to around 40 museums, giving it one of the highest museum densities in the world. It’s no surprise that Basel is often referred to as Switzerland’s cultural capital.
Basel is also home to Art Basel, one of the world’s most prestigious international contemporary art fairs, where galleries from around the globe exhibit and sell works by established and emerging artists.
The novel also mentions biennales, which made me curious about the difference between the two.
Art Basel is an annual art fair focused on galleries, collectors, and the art market.
A biennale is a large-scale international contemporary art exhibition held every two years, usually centered on curatorial themes rather than art sales.
It might seem like a small detail.
But I love it when a novel leaves me wanting to learn something new about the real world.

Novel Spotlight: Payback (페이백) Author: Samk
Payback is one of the most popular Korean BL novels—and one of my personal favorites.
It blends revenge, crime, the entertainment industry, and a deeply emotional psychological drama into one unforgettable story.
▫️Original novel — completed, including the main story and side stories (extras). ▫️Webtoon adaptation — illustrated by Fujoking. ▫️Official Korean audio drama — fully voiced by professional actors.
The novel is officially available in English on Tappytoon.
The webtoon's official English release is published exclusively by Lezhin Comics and is available uncensored.
There's a good chance most BL fans have already heard of—or even read—Payback.
If not... I genuinely hope you'll give it a chance someday 💜

What Does a Webtoon Scriptwriter Actually Do? | Likite Guide
In Short: A Lot More Than You Might Think. It might seem like adapting a novel into a webtoon is simply a matter of copying the original text. In reality, it's much more than that.
Novel: Paper Friendship (종이 우정) | Reader's Reflection
Novel: Paper Friendship (종이 우정) Author: Jinda (진다) 3 volumes (main story is completed)
Availability: No official English translation available (at the time of writing) Genre and tags: Modern, slice of life, coming-of-age, friends to lovers, first love, obsessive/prickly top, ordinary/runaway bottom. The novel's overall rating on Ridibooks is 4.0/5 stars (based on initial reviews). Readers' opinions are divided. Sometimes a story doesn't have to be extraordinary to hit you exactly where it hurts. This was one of those novels where everything seemed to be moving along at a fairly normal pace. At times, it even felt a little boring. And then, suddenly, it felt as if someone tore my heart out, quietly put it back, and expected me to keep reading. After the initial shock and overwhelming sadness came emptiness. And after that, deep empathy and sorrow for the protagonist. Maybe it was simply the right moment in my own life. Maybe it was the kind of week—or month—when this story was bound to hit harder than usual. Sometimes traumatic experiences don't just leave scars. They quietly send your whole life off course. Your self-esteem sinks to the bottom, and returning to the person you used to be can feel almost impossible. By the end, I realized I had come to understand—and perhaps even justify—some of the protagonist's decisions. Objectively, this isn't a particularly unusual story. But it made me reflect on my own life—on the things I'm avoiding and the things I'm quietly letting slip away. And honestly... I don't regret reading it. But I don't think I could ever go through it a second time.

Likite Notes
I started reading Diamond Dust expecting an omegaverse BL novel.
And somehow I ended up reading about painters, art, Basel in Switzerland... and a weather phenomenon called diamond dust.
❄️ Diamond dust is a natural phenomenon where tiny ice crystals float in the air and sparkle like countless diamonds in the sunlight. It's most common in extremely cold weather.
I love stories that go far beyond romance. The kind that make you close the book... and immediately open ten more tabs because now you need to learn about something completely unexpected. Manhwa: Wild Beast Warning / He Might Bite! (맹수주의보) Original Novel: Eoleum-meonji (얼음먼지) Webtoon Script: Yeonmi (연미) Artist: Galbi (갈비)
The story follows Yuntae, a wealthy chaebol heir and black leopard shapeshifter, who moves to a quiet provincial town in search of his first love.
There, he eagerly tries to befriend Jeongseo—a feisty least weasel shapeshifter who absolutely can't stand dangerous predators. Jeongseo does everything he can to keep his distance from the persistent leopard, completely unaware that he is the very first love Yuntae has been searching for. The first season is lighthearted and genuinely charming, so if you're looking for something fun and easy to read, this is a great choice.

Manhwa: Unsleep (언슬립)
Even though these two only shared a brief scene together, their first interaction was so much fun 😄
I'd really love to see the creator explore their dynamic further. They have so much potential together.
Is anyone else looking forward to seeing more of these two?

Manhwa: Pillow Talk / 필로우 토크
Author: Boy Season Artist: Aengmon Publisher: Ridibooks (Exclusive) Status: Ongoing (new chapters every 10 days)
If you've already read the novel, this adaptation is a wonderful excuse to dive back into the story. And if you haven't, this might be the perfect opportunity to discover a remarkably mature and beautifully written title.
About the chemistry and slow burn 💜
If you enjoy stories where feelings develop slowly but leave a lasting impact, this one is definitely worth checking out.
The chemistry between the two leads comes across with surprising subtlety. Nothing feels rushed. Their connection unfolds through lingering glances, accidental touches, and wonderfully cozy everyday moments.
About the artwork
At first glance, the art style might not appeal to everyone. But I'd encourage you to give it a chance.
The more you read, the more natural it feels—before long, it's hard to imagine these characters looking any other way. In my opinion, it captures the novel's calm, mature atmosphere beautifully.
Has anyone started reading it yet? What do you think of the art style and the overall atmosphere? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments 🤗

Synopsis: A "debutant" with 10 years of experience, Jung Eui-hyun is a talented but completely unknown actor who silently takes on any grueling role thrown his way. His life is an endless routine of exhausting film sets. That is until one cold night, when he accidentally crosses paths with Cha Il-joo—a global superstar who feels like someone from a completely different world. At the time, it felt like nothing more than a fleeting chance encounter. But then, Il-joo suddenly asks, "Would you like to grab a drink if you're free?" From that very moment, Eui-hyun's ordinary world begins to slowly shift.
Why it’s worth reading: This is a cozy, mature story with a beautiful atmosphere and no toxic relationship dynamics. The entire plot relies on their deep, tender connection and a beautiful slow burn. Through the story they have the quiet, heartfelt conversations where the masks of show business finally come off.
If you're looking for a comforting story with thoughtfully written characters, there's a good chance this one will resonate with you.

First Impression: Nice to See You / Too Close a Neighbor (너무 가까운 이웃)
Creator: MunKkwa (문과) Publisher: Lezhin Comics Status: Ongoing Translation: Official English release available on Lezhin US This is one of Lezhin's new releases, so these are strictly my first impressions without any long-term guarantees. The manhwa is part of Lezhin's World Drop program, meaning new chapters are released simultaneously worldwide. Synopsis: Go I-deum writes spicy BL web novels but has no real-life experience whatsoever. While looking for some "inspiration" in front of his open window, he suddenly realizes that his handsome neighbor from across the street — an acting student named Kwon Jae-yi — has been watching the entire show. Why it’s worth checking out right now: The dynamic between a panicking author and the completely calm neighbor who "caught" him is a perfect comedy of errors and an absolute parade of awkward moments. It might hook you from the very first chapter. Since it’s an ongoing series, it's hard to tell if toxic tropes will pop up later or if the plot will go downhill. For now, let's keep an eye on it. Has anyone checked out the first chapters yet? Let me know your thoughts in the comments 😊 Tags: Situationship / Older Bottom / Comedy / On Campus / Younger Top / First Time / Uncensored
