I deleted Facebook and insta in a panic because a peer relationship went sour in a way that was so triggering I didnāt want to be able to be perceived anymore but Iām having a hard time not being able to share pictures and anecdotes, those other social medias just got so overwhelming because of the ways people interact with me there. Anyhow, hereās a smattering of what Iāve been up to lately.

I know a good chunkĀ of my followers are into artists associated with the Minneapolis independent hip-hop scene but donāt necessarily follow the scene closely. Over the past few days, a number of artists have been outed as abusive, sexually violent and/or racist, and Rhymesayers Entertainment, Doomtree, and Prof have been called out as complicit with abuse when they should have acted.Ā

Many discussing this have alluded to the fact that the above are the tip of the iceberg and that others in the Minneapolis hip-hop scene are also abusive.
Survivors linked above are calling on the community to hold their abusers accountable, to combat misogynoir in the scene, and for all men to intervene when their friends are abusive. (Many of these survivors are prison abolitionists and so oppose police/criminal intervention).Ā
I have not seen specific asks around actions fans/former fans of abusers should take other than to #BoycottRhymesayers. I believe that those of us who have been fans, however, should examine how parasocial fan relationships and fame worship obfuscates abuse. I myself have created and shared fun fan content of Doomtree, especially Dessa, without understanding their power in the scene and the voices theyāve silenced. Going forward, I will support the survivors in the actions they wish fans/former fans to take.Ā
Grieves, Astronautalis, and Toki Wright are also abusers. P.O.S. is not doing the work for his accountability process. Rhymesayers definitely knew Dem Atlas was abusive and didnāt act. See links at my Twitter thread Iām maintaining here.Ā

Theyāre mad that a young resident named Sabrina Javellana ran for and won the vice mayor seat *while still in college* and has spent her tenure campaigning for criminal ājusticeā reform after the police murdered Howard Bowe in a raid on his house. Apparently their last straw was her joining a BLM protest last week and getting the police chief to kneel with her.
āI have been vocal about the wrongful death of Howard Bowe since even before I was in elected office,ā she said Friday night. āWe have our own George Floyds and Breonna Taylors in our own city that we must address before we can heal and reform.ā

Oh wait, I remember why. Itās because the SWAT team used to get their giggles by conducting a massive campaign of raids in a majority-Black neighborhood looking for drug stashes they never found
Reminding people that the majority of wage theft is committed byĀ āsmall, localā businesses and that their idealizing of small businesses is stupidĀ
All my worst bosses have been small business owners ā the problem isnāt the size of the business, itās that the relationship is exploitative. When someone decides to be a capitalist, making money through their investments rather than through their labour, their position relative to changes in the city becomes fundamentally different. Gentrification, as an example: when rents go up, it means they make more money (rather than lose their home); when prices go up and rich people move in, it means a chance to sell luxury goods (while we work for minimum wage); when more police and surveillance come in, it secures your investment (while we get harassed and pushed out). They are getting rich because our lives are getting worse.

I, the wife of Ramsey Orta, am a survivor of domestic violence by Ramsey Orta during the Black Lives Matter movement. For those of you who donāt know me, my name is Jessica (Hollie) Orta, but I am known by Bella Eiko for live streaming the Occupy Oakland and Ferguson movements.Ā
Over the last few years I have spoken out about my relationship, and marriage, to Ramsey prior to his incarceration. Ramsey physically, mentally, emotionally abused and financially extorted my son and I as I tried to position myself to organize support for him during his incarceration. After I drove to Las Vegas to avoid any further attacks from him, he used the money given to him by the movement to chase me down to Las Vegas and terrorize myself, my son and my then 82 year old Great Aunt. He often threatened me with gang violence and gave my address to people who wanted to harm me as punishment for not staying to endure more of his abuses while supporting him as he negotiated a lesser prison sentence.Ā
In one of our altercations Ramsey physically attacked me by choking me and kidnapping my son for ransom money. You can imagine my shock because of him filming Eric Garner being murdered in the same way. The night before that attack, Ramsey verbally harassed me for not being able to hold in my urination after driving around for over half an hour looking for parking and then walking blocks trying to reach the apartment on Baruch in record breaking cold. These are only a few of the situations I have dealt with during our marriage.Ā
I am asking that the movement that has been supporting Ramsey Orta to hold him, and those who knowingly shielded him from any repercussions for his actions, accountable for his domestic actions towards Black Women. I would also like to be able to go through a divorce process without him abruptly being able to stop it. In November of 2019, he backed away from the divorce proceedings, having his attorney tell me that he would be in touch, after I responded that I would want his assistance for long term therapy for my son and I after being exposed to his violence. Help in this area is greatly appreciated as it is more expensive than I can afford as a single mother.Ā
I also would like the movements, Black Lives Matter, Occupy Oakland, Hands Up Donāt Shoot & I Canāt Breathe, to take action in keeping my son and I safe. I have had to move away from the city far from my friends and family because I feel I am in danger if I were ever to return, especially with him now having access to his welcome home fund, coupled with the blind support of many Black Lives Matter supporters.Ā
I have been an organizer and given my life to this movement as a Black Woman, and this movement has only stood against me in support of Ramsey Orta. I am asking that this movement consider how it will move forward if it continues to silence Black WomenĀ and overlook the bad action of their heroes. The plausible alternatives for police in handling these kinds of situations moving forward are conversations that Iāve been trying to have for years.
I am not asking for police involvement. If I wanted to handle this with the police, I would have pressed charges on Ramsey but I am adamantly against the continuation of the prison industrial complex. I strongly believe in police abolition but we cannot continue to build a movement in which black women and black children continue to be targets of misogyny in their households. You cannot continue to praise someone for a single action, when theyāve attacked and perpetrated violence towards the most vulnerable people in your community. In order to talk about police abolition we must also talk about the future we wish to replace it with. We will not be able to accomplish that safe future if we donāt hold accountable the actions of individuals that resemble those of the same patriarchal system.Ā

Despite being cool.and upbeat (and she is) she also suffers from anxiety and recently started speaking about it in social media. Instagram posta detailing her inability to even go downstairs and how support her fam are etc. She also recently did a bbc documentary about anxiety disorders.
Nadiya is also a perfect example of why diversity in media is important. A government report on community cohesion said sheās done āmore for British-Muslim relations than 10 years of government policyā, because her presence on TV has helped to humanize the image of the hijab-wearing Muslim woman in the eyes of the public.
Sheās not even really a political activist or anything - sheās just a nice, honest, down-to-earth person. Sometimes thatās all it really takes to convince people.
Iām fairly sure most of us are aware that nearly 50% of the victims of extrajudicial police killings in the US are disabled, and Iād like to think most of us have also thought through the fact that being black and disabled is a lot more dangerous than being white and disabled.
But Iād just like to add the results of this study to your pool of knowledge.
More than half of black people in the US with a disability will be arrested by the time they reach their late 20s.
