Moulin Rouge! (2001)
heathenrossi:
The good thing about not having a captor was that there was no one up his ass about staying in the dungeons. He had been able to skate by crashing with friends or sleeping with pirates, but he had finally run out of time and options for the night and wound up grumbling unhappily on the floor of one of the larger rooms. All of the side rooms seemed to be taken, but at least he wasnât in one of the cells. He glanced around the room, humming a familiar string of notes to himself. Even if it had shackles for hands and feet, there was still a bed in one corner. His knees drawn up to his chest, he let his head fall back against the wall, succumbing to the pull of the darkness. Or almost. A soft voice caught his attention, barely louder than the song he had been singing. It was from an old Italian fairytale, a movie he had watched endlessly when he was younger. It sounded good in the echoing space, but not nearly as good as the sound of his little sister. He found the mouth of her cell easily, pressing into the bars as close as he could possibly get. My sister, the firestarter, he thought fondly. âOne of these days I might catch you in a real bed, Lila. They day you learn to use a knife and fork, probably.â
âI hope that day never comes, Ev. Itâll most likely be a very compromising situation for me. But donât worry, Iâll do it for a very good reason.â She winked as she rolled onto her knees, almost like a playful cat. âWelcome to my humble abode.â She motioned to the cell sheâd barely inhabited. Delilah was in a lots of ways very similar to her brother, reason why she always felt a different kind of trust with him. âYou know I know how to use forks and knives. Itâs just for different purposes than yours.â Lila shrugged, looking down at the floor in front of her. âStill havenât fought my way out of the island though. Iâm still trying. Are you having any fun yet?â
casimirferdinand:
âI would have never guessed.â Casimir deadpanned, watching the knife move away and out of his sight. His body fully relaxed when he realized she had put it away. âIâm fine,â He looked down at himself, holding his head hands out to show her he hadnât been harmed. âBesides the small pinhole in my ribs that you put there.â Tilting his head up, he smirked, letting her know he was really okay.Â
She rolled her eyes at his sarcasm. Smartass. She carried a knife around, so what? Most of the islandâs population carried some kind of weapon, and she wasnât going to be the least armed one. Touching the small hole on his shirt Delilah chuckled and looked up at him. âAt least now I know youâre real and not entirely made up of air.â She teased, her fingers grazing up his side.Â

âWait, you kick and bite people?â Barry questions, eyes widening. Taking the boxes from her, he starts to pick up random pieces of cloth that was scattered around, trying to discern from what could still be used and what couldnât. âI try to help everyone, royal or not. I can tell youâre hungover, thatâs why you need to eat.â
âWhen the situation demands so, yes.â She shrugged, putting away a silver shard after studying it for a few seconds. âIâm not the only one who bites and stuff, just so you know. But alright, what exactly do you recommend from the canteen? I feel like even water will make me sick.â She considered a few seconds, âA cigarette, thought. That would make me feel a whole lot better. Do you happen to have one?â

A sigh escaped the pirateâs lips as he finally laid out and relaxed. He was happy that the cleanup from the storm was mostly done and that all they had to do now was rebuilding and restocking of course. He was hoping for some quiet time, but knowing the residents of this island that was highly unlikely. He was proven right when just a few minutes after he laid down someone was standing over him, âNeed something?â He asked simply.
âNot really.â She said simply, sitting down next to the pirate as she pulled a cigarette to her lips. âFigured I could rest too if youâre resting. Iâm honestly about to faint.â She confessed, the headache pounding through her temples really getting the best out of Delilah. She was in no mood to cause any trouble, for once. âDo you need something?â

Declan chuckled as he looked at Lila jump up from her sleep where she was practically out cold. He shook his head as he walked into the room. âWhat were you doing last night Lila? And why are you in here and not in a proper place to sleep?â
When she realized it was Declan she sat back down and exhaled in relief. âNothing you wouldnât be doing if you could.â Placing the broom down Delilah leaned back and closed her eyes again, crossing her arms across her chest. âIâm stuck cleaning this place today and I completely forgot about it last night. In my defense, Iâve been stuck in a cell far too long. I stopped thinking clearly a while ago.â

âUnless cleaning looks like sleeping I highly doubt thatâs what you were doing.â The pirate said as he let himself into the room. He had been checking around to get the status of things going on when he had stumbled upon her, âWhy are you here in particular anyway?â
Delilah rolled her eyes but refrained herself from making any comments that could land her in a situation worse than the current one. âI donât know, but whoeverâs responsible for putting me here is just being cruel.â She brought her hands up and rubbed her temples, the headache that had been threatening her the entire morning suddenly making a full appearance. âI clearly canât even breathe properly, right now.â
casimirferdinand:
Casimirâs first response to the fact that there was a knife pressing into his rib cage was to tense, to stop breathing until he no longer felt the tip of the weapon threatening to break skin. To take a deep breath had been a mistake, after the fact, as all the air he took in release as Delilah punched him, expelling in a wheeze. He fell back, pressing a hand to where he had hit her. âMy apologies.â He coughed out, looking up at her with a scowl, yet he didnât feel too angry at her. âI didnât see you.â
After a few seconds Delilah put the knife away and began fiddling with her fingers, looking down at Casimir with a bit of amusement. âI um... Iâm sorry.â She chuckled, reaching down to help him up. âIâm feeling kind of paranoid lately. Iâve been locked in a cell way longer than I shouldâve been.â She pushed a black strand of hair behind her ear, trying her best not to let herself laugh. âAre you alright?â

âOh, I know what you mean. It is a bad smell.â Barry replied, nodding. âIf there was an HR Department, Iâm pretty sure everything would be different.â He jokes, shaking his head. âThe more the merrier, right?â
âOn the other hand, if there were an HR Department I think kicking and biting your co-workers wouldnât be fair game anymore, so Iâll stick with no HR.â Delilah grabbed two empty boxes and handed one to the pirate, then began picking up things that had scattered around during the storm. âRight, but itâs not every day that a pirate offers to help instead of ordering you to do it all by yourself. Not that Iâm refusing. Iâm hungover and I can use all the help I can get.âÂ

With her cheek pressed against the cold ground, Delilah focused her gaze on a small stone not too far from her nose and blew it away seconds later, as if the boredom could be sighed out of her body. It hadnât taken her long to opt for the floor; Lila had discovered years before that she preferred anything but the softness of a bed. Sheâd never had an easy time falling asleep, but Delilah found the steadiness of the ground much more comforting than the uncertainty of beds. Back in Italy, her bed had been as big as the cell and draped only in the softest of silks. And yet her eyes fluttered shut only if there was a hard surface pressed against her frame. Rolling onto her back, she closed her eyes and tried to see beyond the darkness of her eyelids and imagine the ceiling of the palace, instead. Delilah traced the outlines of the skies drawn across the rooms in her mind, remembering the hours spent beneath them just looking at the details. It was the faint sound of song, a hum sheâd heard a lifetime ago, that brought her back to the cell.Â
The melody was barely there, but it was enough to drag Delilahâs voice out from the depths of her chest. â...Ev? Is that you?â

âHow many chores do you have?â Barry questions. As far as he was concerned, they should all be allowed to eat in the canteen, no matter what. âBurned butter?â He says, letting out a quiet laugh. âYouâll need to sleep soon, or else you wonât be able to do your chores.â
âYou know that smell at the movies of burned popcorn butter? I hate that smell. Gives me a headache.â She rambled, trying her best not to touch upon the subject of her exhaustion. She didnât need any pirate telling Claire, aka her owner, that Delilah was unable to do her chores because she was hungover. âYeah well, if there were a Human Resources Department around I would definitely complain about the labor exploitation. But since there isnât,â She shrugged, a playful smile on her lips. âSono pefetto. Besides, it seems like you might be helping me now.â
When he was younger, Cas had taken out his frustrations through exercise. Whether it was going to the gym that his family had renovated and placed in the palace, or running through the streets of Amsterdam in the morning, he had enjoyed getting out of his head. However, there had come a point where exercise had been replaced with alcohol and sex and partying, and while he was sure that he could get a lot of that on the island, he had taken to running because it got him away from others and out of his head, just like before.Â
The task of clearing the island was a burden, and he had needed a break, so he chose to jog through the debris and any pathways created or cleared. It helped to clear his head, like he had planned, but of course, he wasnât really paying attention to where he was running. It wasnât until he all but collided with someone when he realized he should have been more aware. âFucking hell,â He cursed, grabbing hold of the person so neither of them fell. âMy fault. I wasnât watching where I was running.âÂ
Sheâd heard the footsteps rapidly approaching behind her and quickly spun when they were close enough, grabbing hold of the personâs shoulder while pointing her small knife against his ribs. After a few seconds Delilah recognized his face and exhaled in relief, pulling the weapon away from his body. âFuck you, you scared me!â She punched him in the chest before pulling away, slowly trying to even out her rapid breathing. âNever approach anyone from the back if you donât plan on stabbing them, okay?â

âItâs fine, itâs obvious youâre exhausted.â Barry says, smiling, âWhy havenât you gone to the canteen and eaten? Thereâs plenty of food there.â He suggested. âPlus, you wouldnât have to eat leftover soup.â
âBecause.â She placed her chin on the broomstick and swayed gently from one side to the next. âI went out instead of doing chores yesterday and now theyâre all piled up. And I canât go to the canteen until I finish them, which will probably be next week. Besides, it smells like burnt butter over there.â The smell was too much for her fragile stomach; she had already puked several times and couldnât bear another one. Not that the warehouse smelled any better. âBut you know, Iâll sleep when Iâm dead or something like that.âÂ
claire-darby:
Claire clicked her tongue. âYes, staying down here after the storm does sound rather horrible.â she replied before shrugging. âIâm sure youâll survive. And if not, well, thatâs no bother to me. But as I said, things could change depending on your attitude. Behave and iâll allow a lower-ranked pirate to offer you space in their villa. Donât behave and youâll be stuck here until the Tulach House is renovated. So as you can see, itâs really up to you.â The pirate took another look around the room and made a mental note to have it properly cleaned. âBy the end of the day this cell will be dry and warm, and youâll have a suitable bed. I can give you at least that.â The pirate quirked a brow at Lilaâs request, a ghost of a smile appearing on her lips. âIf you so wish.â
Delilah slowly nodded a few minutes later, hoping sheâd be able to keep herself in check while she was trapped within the dungeons. âFine, Iâll behave then.â She mumbled, wondering what exactly did the word âbehaveâ mean for a pirate. âSee? I can compromise without you people tying me up.â She folded her legs beneath her and looked up at the pirate. âActually can you change the treats for cigarettes? Priorities, yâknow.âÂ

Deciding that it was time to help clean the island, Barry made his way into the warehouse, deciding it was one of the places that needed the most help. Throwing the waterlogged food into a trash bag, he noticed the person next to him suddenly halt their movements. Turning around to see what caused them to stop, he noticed that the girl had fallen asleep. He watched in amusement as the brunette startled awake. âNo offense, but you look like a mess. When was the last time you ate or slept, for that matter?â
âAnd you look like a man heavily suffering from colics.â Lila replied, yawning as she knelt to pick up her broom and swooshed some dirt away. Slowly, she realized what sheâd just said before scrubbing a hand through her face, exhaustion visible in her features. âIâm sorry. Itâs kind of a habit. The insults just fly out.â She chuckled weakly as she swept the floor. âItâs been a while since Iâve done either but apparently Iâm getting some leftover soup after this awesome sweeping session.â Lila smiled up at the man, âYay for me, huh?âÂ
