hello people of the internet, my name is nandini and I’m starting a studyblr!

basics

I’m a 17 year-old college freshman (class of ‘25!) 

Indian-American (specifically Telugu-American)

potential english / econ / film major

a libra / infp (though I don’t really believe in myers-briggs) / slytherin

interests + things I love

bollywood and tollywood! I specifcally love indie films (Dibakar Banerjee and Tharun Bhascker are my favorite directors)

kpop! I’m not as involved in the fandoms as I used to be, but I love f(x), red velvet, and t-ara (in that order hehe)

literature! I’ve loved reading ever since I was little. My favorite books include The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, The Awakening by Kate Chopin, and Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides.

languages! I speak English, Telugu, and a little bit of Hindi. But I also love French and Farsi!

music + tv shows! I’ve already mentioned some of my favorites above, but a few of my other ones are 

Rina Sawayama, Fleet Foxes, Kate Bush, Mitski, Fiona Apple, Ladytron, and anything Bollywood/Tollywood

Succession, Gilmore Girls, Community, That 70′s Show, New Girl, Arrested Development, and The Twilight Zone

Since it’s been about five months since I lasted posted, I thought I would give you guys a bit of an update on my life!

I’ve finished all my college applications! I’ve applied to 12 and gotten into 3 so far and it’s all been very exciting. ✨ I’m still waiting on my EDII school decision to come out on the 15th!

I got an internship at my local radio station, which has been pretty great~

I’ve been entering several writing competitions and working on my poems and short stories

I’m currently knee-deep in reading for an AP Lit research paper I’m writing in April—it’s an author study on Jeffrey Eugenides, and the books I’m reading are The Virgin Suicides, Middlesex, and The Marriage Plot

I did get that 35 on the ACT! But my SAT subject test scores...oof (let’s just say I’m glad they’re getting discontinued)

I think that’s pretty much it! I’m ecstatic to be back on this blog again :)

stupid things that nobody tells you about studyblr aesthetic

like 99.9999% of people have that little excess ink when you use a highlighter its so normal i cant even

dont beat yourself up over slightly wonky lines??? you can fix it later just dont dont dont

handwriting doesnt even matter if its legible write legibly aesthetic doesnt even matter tbh

your notes!!!! are fine!!!!! 99% chance that if you put effort into them someone will compliment you

not unrelated there was this girl w these amazing!!! physics notes and she was like ohh but they’re not as aesthetic as yours and its like??? bro??? im reading your notes right now what does this say about mine lmao

sometimes bullet journals are overrated

sometimes expensive planners are overrated

dont drop a ton of money on a notebook if you have tested out the paper with your main stationery because you’ll  r e g r e t

testing paper!!!! is so important like knowing what you’re writing on makes a difference 

but also who gives its just paper?? if it doesnt matter that much to you dont sweat it just use what makes you feel comfortable

everybody has their own preferences like i prefer light grey dots or maybe a grid if i have to but nO! BLACK! LINES!!!! but i have friends who love those notebooks with heavy lines bc it makes them feel grounded its all about doing what you love

legit buying mildliners doesnt even matter that much dont bother they’re overpriced like 999999% of the time

muji !!!! is lowkey overrated dont buy overpriced products bc its Not Worth It its like a nicer jp target no not really but also completely

forget ab the name brands bc that doesn’t even matter!!!! if you like what you’re using then use it !!! if your method is efficient then use it!!!! and if you’re really trying to develop an aesthetic it’ll come to you through what you already have

like ofc its ok to look at other people for inspo and stuff just your aesthetic is your own!!! its like a tree !! every single tree is different!!! but they’re all still wonderful right??? so let your aesthetic grow!!!!

my “sort-of-complete” online classes and exams tips

This is a longer-than-usual post with tips for the 3 stages of online classes: focusing during an online class session, reviewing/studying for online classes, and preparing for online exams/ quizzes. So I decided to insert the “Read More” link to (a) not take up too much space on your dash, and (b) feel more confident in adding more tips as time goes on.

These are tips that I’ve compiled from my experience of taking online classes during my last 1.5 years at university. But having all of your courses moved online is so much more complicated. Since I’m currently doing an internship, I have tried my best to produce this post based on the comments of my friends IRL and on Tumblr (hence the “my”). However, I hope it can still be useful for you and many who were all abruptly put in this same situation.

So feel free to share your own tips and experience! I will probably go back to this once in a while to make some changes to it and add your tips. Good luck to everyone who is currently/ about to take online classes. You are almost there! 🍀 I believe in every single one of you!

it’s okay to have days where you don’t study at all if you need a mental and/or physical break.

it’s okay to prioritize other things in your life over school, if they’re more important to you and benefit you moreso.

it’s okay to fail a test or get a bad grade or get on the bad side of a teacher; your academic career will never go perfectly, but that doesn’t mean it’s spoiled forever, and that you will go nowhere.

it’s okay to not be accepted into programs, classes, clubs, or anything of the sort. just keep going forward, and new & better things will come along.

9-12-20 ap lit homework + my new MacBook! + the book I have to read for extra credit in ap bio 🧡 this blog has been asleep for a while since I’ve been really busy with school, but I just switched to online learning and hopefully I’ll have more time to post

recover from ‘burnout’ in five steps

1. reward yourself for working so hard. take a long bath with your favourite bath bomb, take time to cook your favourite meal, paint your nails. recognise that you worked hard and it was tough and that you deserve time for yourself

2. catch up on sleep. nothing makes studying harder than being exhausted. clear your schedule and have a lie in. even if you don’t sleep late, stay in bed and enjoy a guilt-free lazy morning

3. do something fun. invite your friends over for a movie night, take your dog for a walk. remind yourself that there is more to life than textbooks and notes

4. make a plan. start getting ready to get back into study mode. make a todo list, a study schedule, and a list of your deadlines

5. organise your space. declutter your desk so you have a clean space to be productive in. tidy desk, tidy mind

start again.
