WHO: Ludovic Bagman and Liliane Chastain
WHEN: Thursday, March 2nd, 1978. 11:03AM. In between classes.
WHERE: Outside of Charms.
Charms had ended, and Ludovic bid goodbye to Davey Gudgeon, who he always sat next to during class. There were all sorts of folks around school that Ludovic liked to gossip with, but Davey was certainly one of his favorites. Today, like most days, the two boys only half paid attention to what it was that Professor Flitwick had to say. Instead, they exchanged various bits of information that might be of interest to the other. It was during today’s specific conversation that Ludovic heard something more interesting than the typical day-to-day news.
His classmate, Liliane, was someone that was not talked about very often, not in Ludo’s experience anyways. She had always been somewhat reserved, and he often got the feeling that she didn’t like him. His own fault, of course. She was really quite beautiful, and he often made sure to let her know. Anyways, her opinion of him hardly mattered. What did matter was what he had just been told. After saying goodbye to Davey, Ludo glanced around for Liliane. They had the next class together, as well, and now was as perfect of a time as any. He caught sight of her and wasted no time in trotting up to her side. “Hey, Liliane!” He greeted happily. “Guess what I heard about you?” He couldn’t help but get straight to the point.
Liliane had mixed feelings about classes now; she had to do well to get into Healer training and she couldn’t imagine not applying herself in classes. But aside from the stress of NEWTs, she just didn’t care about classes anymore. It felt like wasted time, being here and learning, when there was so much going on that needed to be fixed. But she still went to class as usual, and ignored the less dedicated students, which was very difficult when it came to the boys whispering together during the lecture. If Liliane were a bolder type of girl, she might even have been tempted to try to make them stop herself, but she didn’t. After class, she had plans to make a quick escape but she was stopped by Ludo’s voice, an unwelcome hindrance to her attempt to find Beau between classes.
She turned a cool smile in Ludo’s direction but kept walking; if he was going to try and have a conversation, he had to keep up. “I couldn’t possibly begin to guess,” she said as she tossed her head lightly. The fact that there was gossip about her was surprising enough, but whatever it could be, she didn’t understand how it would be interesting enough to draw Ludo’s attention. She didn’t dislike him exactly, but she didn’t approve of his flippant approach to life and he had always been too forward for her taste.
