Part 3 of my tgaa rants cause I can't sleep
Poor baby was just so innocent in this he was just a young man who idolize his brother, aided in investigations and probably got into a little bit of trouble with herlock at school.
Its made clear in dialog he always intended to enter the legal world as he interned in the offices as young as 16, he studied and worked so much to be like his brother and be a good man like him. His brother urges him to step away from investigations and focus in his exams and he graduates proudly.
Then his brother is murdered, a good friend comforts him, then he learns said friend is the murderer and the serial killer his brother was hunting, despite being young and first time in court he takes the case hes too emotionally invested in and misses the clues that would've proven his friend wasn't the killer.
He becomes harden like stone and prosecutes in memory of his brother and determination to live up to his family name, suddenly people are dying hes being blamed, investigated and attacked and after years he chooses to disappear for his safety and to start his investigation. At this point hes lost all trust in people he no longer responds to old friends reaching out, he barely has any faith in his coworkers or boss and somedays he looks in the mirror or klint portrait and wonders the truth deep down he could've figured out if grief and pain weren't so powerful.
He returns to court to take down a heinous criminal and sees a Japanese man across the room who almost a incantation of the man he knew and believed betrayed him, those eyes spark something in him he cant accept or acknowledge but he finds himself taking cases with the man cause he needs to see it.
A case has him thrown in a loop of sorts as he sees the resolve growing in the foreign man whos name he cant bring himself to say just yet, he won't let anyone use him as a puppet anymore then he already has been and pushes for the truth despite an old friends pleas. I wondered when barok stopped trusting gregson cause it had to be in those 5 years he was gone to come to find out gregsons involvement, this case probably cemented his suspicions and pushed him to persecute gregson.
His dear old friend is accused of murder and he weighs the dangers and damages and chooses his friend to make sure he had a fair trial. As much as he wants to keep his dear friend around he believes the safest place is miles away from him...and gregson, he opens up to the foreign lawyer and finds the apprentice did not want and had strong suspicions about is in fact the son of the man who ruined his life. If his little trust in stronghart wasn't gone yet it was now.
His assistant dissappears so he investigates gregson looking for truth but finds a body instead, hes arrested and is surprised the man he was so harsh to comes to his aid and for the first time calls his name and accepts help, in trial he find his apprentice is the prosecutor against him and wants him dead.
The trial is madness so many twists and reveals, hes trying to keep it together but learns the terrible truth. His brother was a murderer, the man who betrayed him never did in fact he gave his brother honor in death, he sentenced a innocent man to death and had a niece he could never publicly acknowledge for her safety.
He looks at kazuma with so much guilt he turned kazuma into him a younger version of him when he first fell to darkness, he wishes to confess all guilt and dissappear to live in shame but his apprentice tells him no, he should stay and restore his family's honor and aid him in growing as a prosecutor to make up for his mistakes.
He's a whirlwind of emotion as he wants to properly meet the niece but honor his brothers wishes, he wants to let people in but needs to evaluate who he can trust. He's debating who Gregson truly was to him and who he was to him. His old friend comes running, someone he can trust and hes slowly healing as he acknowledges his mistakes. He'll never forget ryuu and his actions in saving his life in more way than one
