Hey does anyone know any particular reason why peacock train feathers could not be used for feathering arrows?

I'm not a 100% sure but I think typically you'd use wing feathers and not tail feathers for arrow fletchings anyway. And looking at peacock train feathers, they seem kinda sparse and stuff for me, compared to what I'd expect from fletchings. So take this with a grain of salt because admittedly I've never made arrows and I've only shot a real bow once in my life, but at a guess I'd say that peacock train feathers might not be stiff enough and might not have the right shape to properly stabilize the arrow in flight

I don’t know for sure, but I’m reasonably confident that the combination of them being ENORMOUS and also very soft means that they won’t hold their shape in flight, and the subsequent distortion of the fletchings will give the arrow a LOT of drag compared with say, goose wing feathers.

Which isn’t to say that you /couldn’t/ use them, but the result would be more like a flu-flu fletching, which is used to reduce the range of arrows for target or show shooting and looks like this:

It's a fun introduction to art as well as other topics such as art tools, techniques, perspective, etc. He's such a fun personality and love watching his main Brad Colbow channel.

One thing to keep in mind is you can make art with anything so don't jump in buying a bunch of expensive stuff. Cheap supplies can take you really far.

I'm about to leave work and am extremely tired so I'm blanking on different stuff, but if I think of anything I'll keep adding to this through edits and reblogs.
