             ❝ I DUNNO IF IT’S OPPOSITE DAY … because , well , he’s a not-wonderful wonderful wizard every day , but you know how some people get known for things they aren’t ?? ❞ He asks - aka , do you know how some people lie ?? ❝ It’s kinda like that - everyone thinks he’s wonderful when he actually isn’t. And HE’S the only one who knows that - besides , well , me - but he doesn’t want anyone else besides him to know. ❞ As well , Glinda made it clear nobody was to know that the Wonderful Wizard of Oz fathered a child with the Wicked Witch , and that child was still wandering around Auradon at the moment. But one part of that equation would Cyrus forever preach as soon as he found it , since of course , he could at least hold some pride in who his mother was. But enough of that - he’d grin in return , showily bowing and waving his hand. ❝ Your Majesty , Soup Eater. ❞ A chuckle , standing up straight. ❝ I don’t mind being a kind thief without a name. There’s some mystery to a HANDSOME STRANGER ; but y’can call me Cyrus. Cyrus Goode. ❞     

Lillanelle’s brow creased, tilting her head in much the same way she’d seen Bayard the Bloodhound look when he was confused, trying to understand whatever she’d said. “ It is not often I am bewildered, but ... ” she licked her lips before continuing, “ so the Wonderful Wizard of Oz is, in fact, not very Wonderful, but he would like people to continue to believe he is. How did he become so Wonderful in the first place ? Surely there must be something truly Wonderful about him, otherwise, such a story could never have started. ”

She laughed at his dramatic bow. “ Handsome Cyrus Goode. A Goode thief, ” she said in a sing-song. “ How perfectly fantastic and odd to be in your company. And on the subject of how-dos, withertos, and whyfors -- How shall we begin this Ozian potion ? Usually, an Underland invisibility potion would begin with WORM FAT. ” Lillanelle looked under her boots, as if looking for worms to use.

         lillanelle’s eagerness draws a smile from anya,   their excitement slowly rising up to match her’s.  granted, they didn’t quite know  how  they were going to save the world  (  or if the world  needed  saving in the first place ) ,  but the knowledge of knowing that WONDERLAND,  the place anya grew up in their childhood, is in fact very much  REAL  just put them in a mood to, well,  save the world.    “    all right!  where do you think we should start, then?      ”

“ i think we ought to just follow where our feet will take us. first -- we must step out of the room. ” lillanelle swept her skirts up, holding her arms aloft as if to dance, heading out the door. she made a big show of stepping out of the doorway onto the hallway. “ -- and with this done, you make the next step. what shall our next heading be, captain kingsleigh ? ”

        «♡»  caspian  hardly  has  any  time  to  react,  to  respond  to  his  sister  before  the  stranger  is  pointing  the  camera  at  them  and  his  sister  is  beckoning  him  to  pose.  the  most  minuscule  smile  comes  to  honeysuckle  pink  lips  and  he  remains  still  until  the  picture  is  taken  and  the  camera  is  returned  to  their  table.  ❝  i  didn’t  know  i  was  to  be  in  the  picture,  dear  sister.  just  that  you  wanted  it  taken.  ❞  he  hums.  ❝  it  was  very  kind  of  that  stranger  to  leave  your  neck  with  you,  though.  ❞

        he  leans  forward  to  lean  against  the  tabletop,  head  resting  in  his  hand.  ❝  four  arms  and  two  extra  legs  …  would  that  not  make  you  a  spider,  lili  ?  would  i  have  a  spider  for  a  twin  ?  ❞  he  muses  aloud,  mismatched  eyes  turning  their  gaze  to  the  sky.  ❝  i  suppose  if  you  were  a  spider,  i  would  have  to  be  a  spider,  too.   it  might  be  strange  if  one  of  us  turned  into  a  spider  and  the  other  didn’t  …  ❞  oh,  but  he  does  like  to  be  caspian  enough,  and  turning  into  a  spider  doesn’t  seem  very  caspian  of  him,  but  if  his  sister  wants  to  be  a  spider  …  ❝  salt  and  candied  fingers  would  make  it  far  more  edible  than  it  is  now,  i  agree.  perhaps  a  pinch  of  time,  too  ?  you  would  think  someone  who  sells  food  for  a  living  would  know  these  thing  …  ❞  *✧｡⋆

“ yes, i shall have to remember them, that kind stranger, the neck-leaver -- ” lillanelle picked up her camera quickly, capturing the retreating figure of their mystery photographer. she smiled to herself. 

she matched the motions of her brother, much like she did when they were much younger children. lillanelle crinkled her nose. “ yes, i would be your spider-twin and you must become a spider as well, cassi, because as twins -- whatever happens to one must happen to the other, ” she said in mock seriousness. the mention of candied fingers made her pout, missing the endless stores in their castle. “ a splash of time, perhaps ... ” lillanelle pretended to pick up something from the table, splashing the make-believe time over their soups. “ salt, fingers, and worm fat. why, we’d be halfway through a soup of upulkuchen -- but adding teeth from a living man would certainly change the outcome. why ... we might make something completely new. ” her eyes had lit up, her fingers rubbing together as she began to imagine all the possibilities. lillanelle even began to look around, for men with loose teeth, but as she caught the eye of a passerby who frowned at her -- the light in her eyes dimmed.

“ but it would be strange to make a new recipe here, wouldn’t it? ” she asked quietly, her shoulders sinking. “ caspian, i wonder -- how strange do you think i am? am i noticeably strange ? and you must be honest. ”

“oh lillanelle, it doesn’t hurt !! you could throw one at me, if you would feel better - but you absolutely may eat one.” she scooped a ball of jello up, roughly shaping it into a heart before handing it to her friend. “a heart for our love -    to friendship and to a life full of wonder!”  

“i suppose it wouldn’t really be harming if it doesn’t hurt ... oh, i always get confused over what counts as harm, why, anything could be harmful if --” lillanelle gasped at the heart-shaped jello, clasping her hands under her chin. “oh, kitty! it’s so adorable!” she took the jello into her hands and began to nibble on it, a bit of red jello on her nose as she spoke again. “i am so honoured to eat the heart of our love!” she remarked, announcing it with a laugh for all to hear. “have you been throwing jello all day? mischievous cat.”

they’d already scanned lillanelle’s photographs and uploaded them to the cloud, and now they sat on odette’s couch, heads bent over her phone. “ okay, so we’ve already made your account and picked a profile picture, we can always change your bio later, can be anything you want —- ” she clicked make new post. “ and now you can pick what photo you want to post first. and then you can write a description about it, if you want. and then you can add hashtags so more people see it. see, like, the crosshatch symbol other people have in theirs? ”

“ crosshatch... ” she echoed, tapping on the symbol first. “ so ... first the picture. ” lillanelle chose a picture of the auradon prep castle poking out from the bottom of the frame, the colourful sky and the clouds the main focus. “ and then the description ... ” she took her time as she wrote a short haiku about castles in clouds. “ and then hashtags...? ” 

lillanelle stared at the screen. “ i don’t know what to write, is it just another description? OH, how strange ! ” she suddenly smiled bright. “ i don’t know what to write, this is the first time i’ve not know what to write or say ! how peculiar, it scares me so much from making a mistake and i hardly ever worry about mistakes with my words ! ”

       her eyes follow the stranger as she practically  dances   into the room, not out of interest, but rather  confusion.  she didn’t know anyone this cheerful or strange, especially past midnight,  but then again,  the auradon kids behave a lot  differently  than what she’s used to.

      she’s still confused  of course.  she’s fluent in both english and french, yet she’s never used or even   knew   the word  midtching.    “    is that what you all say around here? in auradon?     ”    she asks, her head tilted slightly.     “     and, well, you don’t  have  to let them leave, they’re probably right.  we aren’t allowed in the kitchens at night,  you know.     ”

“ oh, no, it is not a word the auradonians have befriended, ” she hummed, opening a cabinet and poking her head inside. when she resurfaced with a bag of nuts, she continued: “ it is a word from underland !! or wonderland, as dear alice named it. i much prefer wonderland, but i do still sometimes call it underland because -- well, a land by any other name is still as warm as the hearth of your home. ”

lillanelle swayed back to the table the student was at. “ i don’t understand why we would not be allowed. what happens when we want to cook ?  cooking and studying in a kitchen is not simply restricted to daylight hours. how silly. i shall write a letter about it, ” she decided. “ what are you studying ? perhaps i can help ! ”

            The idea of making a potion , it made him giddy. Granted , he’d done the same thing on his own , many times - but that didn’t make the experience any less fun to him. Magic was a talent he’d had faith in for a LONG while when everything else seemed to be something he’d never perfect. Magic was a comfort.                ❝ Oh , hell yeah. ❞ Cheshire grin formed upon blonde’s features , and his eyes lifted towards the woods as he took a step to follow. ❝ I can show you how we make potions back where I’M from ; it’s no Wonderland , but there’s a lot of wonder in the land of Oz too. Also , a wonderful wizard who might not be so wonderful. But that’s not me - I’m no wonderful wizard. Just a witch. ❞

              As soon as he agreed, she snapped the fingers of her free hand cheerily. Though her joy be grand, there was still soup in hand / and she could not clap, therefore she snapped.

              Lillanelle led their little party, humming to herself as she wove her way past the undergrowth, her hand daintily aloft, the white skirt of her dress already picking up dirt and leaves, but she did not mind. “ An Ozian potion. But wait,  ” Lillanelle glanced at him. “ Why would your Wonderful Wizard not be Wonderful ? Is it an Opposite Day term ? Or does ‘ wonderful ’ mean something else in the Land of Oz ? Curious, ” she said, tilting her head. “ And I just realised !! You are a witch and a kind thief without a name !! And I am a soup-eater without a name, either. You may call me Lillanelle, Soup-Eater, ” she smiled, with a little curtsey, not stopping her walk. “ Or ... Lillanelle Marmoreal. ”

lillanelle jumped up from their seat. “ oh, are we ?! how exciting, anya !! ” grabbing the little film camera from the lampstand, lillanelle rushed to stand beside her friend. “ what an excellent idea, a good way to re-jig our brains for this stroll down memory lane !! an unplanned adventure to heighten our senses and recalibrate our minds !! ” it had been an awfully long day of storytelling their histories, after all. and lillanelle didn’t mind repeating a single word of it if it meant anya would remember.

     BETH NODDED AS she helped to get the camera off of her and took the picture. “Having a great day so far then?” she asked curiously after she snapped a shot of everything that was happening. Her words made her laugh slightly as she looked back to pick up her pen. “It’s okay. It happens all the time honestly, but a mental break never hurts,” she explained.

ONCE THE PICTURE was taken, lillanelle took the camera back with a grateful curtsey. “ Oh, yes ! Today has been positively wonderiffic. I should be writing too, actually, ” she admitted with a shrug and a smile. “ The university has given tremendous amounts of homework. I suppose this, too, is my mental break. What are you writing  ??  ”

                        EYES WIDEN to match an awkward smile that defined melodys thinking face. a face she had to pause on for several seconds to decipher the others words.   it was important, melody considered, to never overlook anyone’s ideas – even if they didn’t seem obvious to her at first.

  ❝ well i mean – sure . ❞  melody replied,  not 100% certain of what she was actually agreeing too,      ❝ sometimes you have to destroy something to make it better? there’s – there’s a saying for that right? something about a phoenix ?  ❞  

“ OH BUT, not destruction, heavens no. but i suppose an explosion must always ... destroy something. oh, what was i thinking ... ” the distraught was clear on the princess’ face, ashamed of joking about an explosion so lightly, regardless of what she intended. when the other mentioned phoenixes, she brightened a little. “ yes !! we would all be phoenixes if that were to happen. but, i must ask, do planets often explode where you come from ? ”

lillanelle played with the lace of her skirt, nodding as she listened. “ people usually think perfection means ‘without flaws’. but then that means flaws are seen as ... bad things. but i don’t think they’re bad things, ” she shook her head gently. “ it’s like saying a nose is a bad thing because you smell bad things. but you can’t help what you smell ... ”

lillanelle gasped. this little pub, dark and dimly lit, but with fairy lights and old lanterns, was fast-becoming one of her favourite places in auradon. the walls were plastered with posters of bands, a chalkboard near the stage announcing the band playing tonight -- a visiting group from bayou de orleans. the princess looked out of place in her all-white, frilly dress -- perhaps, the lightest thing in the room. “ do you come here all the time ?? is the music neverending ?? ”
