Two For Tragedy -- Alex || Lillian
“I just wanted you and Dad to be proud of me,” Alex said, brushing a bit of hair back from his mother’s face.
He knelt on the floor in front of the couch, looking at her face, how tired and lost she looked. Â It broke his heart.
“I wont be far away.  I’ll come back every now and again to check up on you, alright?  Try to rest.”
Alex gave a small smile, leaned in and gave his mother a soft kiss on her forehead.
“I love you, Mom.”
From the moment the doctor first handed him to her, she'd felt nothing but love for the small bundle in her arms. Even when Adam looked at her sternly, silently telling her that this would be the one they'd offer as a sacrifice, she'd been able to look back at the boy with a small, albeit sad, smile. While she wouldn't be allowed to show any sort of love or affection towards him, she could watch over and take care of him from afar. There were nights when, after Adam had sent Alex away from the table without food, she snuck a few snacks up to his bedroom while he and little Joshua were sleeping so that he could at least have something in his stomach. Of course, it was assumed that Alex stole the food from the kitchen in the middle of the night, and while it pained her to see her husband yell at the young boy, she still felt a bit of comfort to know that he'd been fed. He could've sworn he heard a faint "I love you, too" as he pulled away.
