âHello, what would you like today?â the bakerâs son chimes politely standing up from the wooden stool he was sitting on.
âI donâ fink Iâve got enough money on me tâbuy anyfinâ right nowâŠÂ âm jusâ lookinâ right now. Might be back latah, if me step-fathahâll give me somefinââŠâ Toby managed a polite smile, though it was slightly awkward.
âOh yeah, I understand,â he nods. Most people in district 12 couldnât afford bread. This was nothing new.
âFank you, sir. Promiseâll come back latah if I can, soâs I wonâ be wastinâ yer time,â he said quietly, respectfully, his eyes flickering down to the baked goods for a moment or two before looking back up at the boy in front of him.
âItâs really no problem if you canât,â he shrugs, âI wasnât doing anything anyway.â The blonde had a plan brewing. He was going to sneak a roll for the other boy.
âMaybe⊠I canât say fer sure, âcause I donâ want âim gettinâ mad at me⊠but me step-fathahâs the barber, Mistah Todd?â He began, since he knew it wouldnât be incredibly obvious who his family was. âMaybe we can work out a lilâ tradeâŠ? A free shave fer you âr yer olâ man, in âxchange fer a few loaves oâ bread? MaybeâŠ?â
Peeta nods, heâd heard of the barber. âThat sounds good,â he smiles, âmeet me out back in three minutes..â he whispers.
Toby returned his smile, a bit more genuine of one this time; which really, it was rare for him to give a real smile, but Peeta didnât need to know that. At the whispered response though, his brow furrowed. âAlright, thenâŠâ he nodded slightly.
The youngest of the bakerâs sons was always kind at heart. Always wanting to share his gift of baking with others. He hid a few loaves in his apron before heading out to meet the other boy, making sure no one was watching.
He seemed nervous by whatever this was, but he had a feeling it was an act of charity. The Barkers had at one time been a richer family in the District, but after years, they lost their meager wealth. Toby was simply happy to have more than heâd had when it was just him and his mother⊠but he appreciated the gesture. Carefully, he snuck out back and cautiously waited at the door for him.
âHere,â the rosey cheeked boy said softly, handing the other the bread, âjust donât let anyone see you.. mother will punish me if she sees..â His eyes flicker down to his feet nervously.
âIf yer Mum sees, Iâll tell âer I stole it,â the black-and-white-haired boy assured him, but tucked the bread into his ratty old vest anyways. After a prolonged silence between them, he spoke again. âFank ye. Really. Me famâlyâll âppreciate a lot.â
âAlways happy to help,â Peeta smiles. He then turns and scampers back into the bakery.

âO-oh my.. Iâm sorry, I didnât mean to bump you. Are you alright?â The nervous boy says softly trying to hide his British accent. He didnât need to stick out more than he already did.

lilly-patrick·:
She rolls her eyes. He knew her better than most. She loved it and hated it in all honesty. She couldnât hide anything from him. âWell its a good thing Iâm not trying for an Oscar, just a diploma,â she laughs. His sarcastic remarks had become part of her dialect.
He scoffs at her sarcasm, his head naturally resting on her tiny shoulder. He snuggles close to her, pulling her back against his chest. He presses a few kiss to her cheek, and the side of her neck.Â
â I think youâll do great tomorrow. You have nothing to worry about. â He reassures her one more time, knowing sheâll worry when she is away from her studies.Â
Being cuddled together like this felt so natural. She loved how they just sorta clicked like puzzle pieces, physically and emotionally.
âThanks Connor,â she replies softly though still doubtful.
Send â and the name of a character and Iâll do a quick sketch of them.
