Age regression often reflects a nervous system that learned to self-soothe because emotional safety or attunement was inconsistent at some point during development. The person learned early on to take care of themselves emotionally because comfort wasn’t always reliably available. It's a form of emotional regulation. Like a dog chewing for comfort. An altered baseline on emotional systems. A consistent state of hightend/muted emotions that feel normal all the time. Regression balances them out effectively.

Regressors are typically kind, empathetic, gentle people, because their coping style is rooted in an internal sense of safety and care.
