Asher didn’t bother to glance up from the design stencil he was working on when he heard the bell that signaled the door to the shop door opening “Can I help you?” he asked, his tone not very welcoming, not that it ever was these days. Really, though, none of the customers came here for great friendly service, they came for good tattoos and as far as Asher cared at this point, you couldn’t have both. It worked out great cause his boss couldn’t seem to care how he treated them anyway, as long as he did a good job on the actual tattoo.
Opening the door to the shop, Lila had to smother a small laugh at his tone. The first time she’d come here and he’d greeted her like that, she had gasped loudly, hand on her chest and pretended like she’d never been so offended in her life. Now, after coming here on a more regular basis; sometimes during lunch or when they were both getting off at similar times, she was used to it. Lila let herself watch him work for a moment before she answered. It had been years, but she never stopped feeling amazed at seeing his art or now tattoo designs. “Is that something you are designing for yourself or one of your customers?” She leaned against the wall near the front door, a small smile on her face.
it was one of those mornings where he had taken his pup out for a walk and the pup decided it was time for a break which john was hoping for. taking a seat he pulled out his phone going through emails zoning out automatically only looking over at the resting pup for a second before hearing the other take a seat on the other side of him.
he went to open his mouth to say something, tell the pup it was time to head home but was quick to close his mouth when the girl spoke. turning his head he looked in the direction she had pointed before looking back at her with furrowed brows. he truly wasn’t one to do this he wasn’t one who would respond honestly, he would have just gotten up and walked away. this time though he didn’t make a move to leave this time he let out a sigh and just nodded, “yeah sure, you can sit… i don’t think he’s ready to leave anyways.” he said motioning to the puppy who was looking up now at the two of them.
Lila’s heart melted as she stared down at the pup. She had been so focused on trying to find the most unassuming looking person who hopefully wouldn’t mind them crashing on their solitude, that she hadn’t taken notice of the dog beside the man.·“So what is this beautiful good boy’s name?” she asked, smiling widely.
Cooing at the pup for a moment more, she looked back up at the man before her, offering him a grateful smile. “But thank you so much, I truly do appreciate you letting me crash in on your morning here. I’m sorry about that. I just think I remembered seeing you around when I attended Keene State College, so you seemed like my best bet to get away when I got desperate.”
some days coffee was the only way to get through the day. okay so it was more like most days which was why emir was sitting at the little cafe on his day off, reading the newest book to his collection: american psyco. he was only a few pages in when he heard a voice come from above him, breaking his attempt of reading the same paragraph for the third time in a row. some mornings it took more than a cup of coffee to get him started and today was one of those days. emir just couldn’t have what he used to to wake him up…
“pardon?” the warlock asked shaking his head trying to clear the sleep so he could actually fucking think. “uh yeah of course…” with a faint smile he waved to the seat she was already sitting in as a welcome for her to continue to do so. company never hurt him. “do i get to create a cover story just in case he comes over? we could be cousins once removed due to something our dear aunt hilda did long long ago that no one ever talks about…we haven’t seen each other since the reunion since we were both very young, where you were going through a blonde phase and me, i was exploring a goth one myself that turned, as you can tell, a very grave decision in my part.” emir paused and brought the coffee up to his lips and took a ship, smiling in thought. “this….this could work.”
Lila gave him a small smile of sympathy, as she realised he looked about as sleepy as she felt. Although she’d been here for almost two hours, she still didn’t feel the full effects of the coffee’s she had been drinking; at this rate, she was going to have to go up and ask for it as an IV.
A soft laugh burst out of her as she listened to him continue speaking, her body relaxing now that she wasn’t being hard-pressed. “I would have never thought of that but a cover story is a great idea!” Her eyes were bright, as she put her free hand on her chest in faux shock. “Oh our poor dear aunt Hilda tore our family apart with her scandalous actions, but cousin, is it really you?” She paused trying to maintain her serious composure. It only lasted for a second before she broke into a wide smile. “I’ve got a say maybe a should bring back that blonde phase you mentioned. Your goth one seemed to have ended pretty good.”
The brush fit all too perfectly in her small hand while the palette full of different colors was held in the other. A variety of colors like navy blue, lemon yellow, maroon, purple velvet made the old, abandoned building look slightly more alive. It wasn’t touched in years, ever since its owners left Keene and nobody wished to buy it. It all felt too strange for her but Rae being Rae ― she chose to ignore it.
It was Sunday evening and she was bored out of her mind. This seemed like the perfect distraction; alone, with the darkness slowly swallowing her surroundings and the only noises were coming from her earbuds in which ‘ Angels ‘ by Vicetone & Kat Nestel was blaring through on repeat. Her next obsession it seemed.
She didn’t catch the sound of a twig snapping behind her but she did have a feeling she wasn’t alone; and her gut rarely was wrong. Pulling one earbud out, Rae looked behind her and a few strands of hair fell from her bun. “ I’m not doing anything wrong, “ she started, “ i’m actually being good this time. Plus, there’s no security around so that doesn’t mean I’m trespassing. But if there is then punish them for not doing their job right. “
Lila hadn’t expected anyone else to be around the area. The few times she’d been here before it had been completely isolated, especially once the sun started going down. Looking over her shoulder she could see the sky slowly melting into darker shades. Right now there was still some light shining above the trees and proving enough light that depending on the angle so could get an almost eery feeling to the image she captured.
Slowly walking closer, she was trying to be quiet, not wanting to draw attention to herself just yet. It almost seemed like a crime if she disturbed her. Mesmerized by the colours before her, she raised the camera to her face and snapped a picture. Taking another step forward she cringed as she stepped on a twig, the sound sharp in the silence.
Looking up as the other spoke, Lila struggled to cover up her slight laughter. “Anytime someone starts a conversation with I’m not doing anything wrong? You know it is the complete opposite. Do you have experience with security that you had your little speech all prepared?”
The air was stagnant and the usual sounds that came with an old building were silent. Standing behind the front counter the witch wore a plastic shield mask completely focused on the clay bowl in front of him. Leo used a pair of tweezers to pick up a small clump of grassy herb and slowly place it in the bowl. Not even the ding of the shop bell diverted his attention instead he gabbed a pinch of dust from below the top of the counter. “Please do not get close lest you wish to find out what it feels like to be an insect. Now what can I help you with?”
”Please don’t turn me into an insect.” She said quickly, her eyes wide as she watched what he was doing. Lila had walked by the shop hundreds of times before on her way home until she had finally decided to walk in and sate her curiosity. She’d only been here twice before; the first time just to see what the shop was, and the second time to have her palm read because why not. Without thinking about it, she continued speaking as she stood by the door. “but out of curiosity, how would it feel? Would the person keep their own mind or would they have whatever mental capacities the insect has?”
Kennedy looked over at the person who walked over to the table she was sitting at. She liked Lila, but hated people who irritated her. It was in her nature to want to be a bad witch and curse the guy, but she remembered what the last supreme did to her when she used her powers for evil. “You’re totally fine, that guy has no idea what karma will do to him,” she replied in a cool tone. Her glare removed from the guy and her reaction softened as she looked to Lila. “You can always sit with me, especially when guys act like that to you. You don’t deserve to feel uncomfortable.”
“My appreciation for you just grows more every time.” Lila was beaming gratefully at Kennedy. At first, she hadn’t wanted to bother the other woman, but she’d been the only person she recognized in this place. Placing her bag carefully on the floor beside her, she relaxed into her chair, letting out a sigh of relief “Thankfully it doesn't happen often, but I got desperate this time and karma wasn’t coming fast enough for that guy.” She said with a wave of her hand. “So what brought you in here early on a saturday? I didn’t interrupt you from anything important, did i?”
Lila held onto her coffee for dear life, as she hurried across the shop quickly but quietly not wanting to draw more attention to herself. It was way too early to exist and she just wanted to crawl back into bed and sleep for hours – but no she’d had to be impulsive and sign up for a sunrise yoga class. Making her way to one of the occupied tables, her empty palm found the surface as she quickly took a seat.
“Look, I know this might sound strange and I wouldn’t normally ask since I can handle things like this myself, but somehow I don’t feel like my brain is awake enough to deal with all that.” She said in a single breath, one hand waving madly into the air; the other hand clenched tighter around her cup. “That weird guy over there can’t take a hint when a girl’s uninterested and refuses to leave the table that I was at. Even after I said ‘no’ and 'leave me the hell alone’ – well it was more like: ‘no I'm sorry’ and ‘this table is occupied’, but you know same thing. I don't know how much clearer than that I can be, so just – is it okay if i sit here for a while? Please say it is you are my ONLY hope..”

“I'd rather die on an adventure than live standing still.”
“The moments that define lives aren't always obvious. They don't always scream LEDGE, and nine times out of ten there's no rope to duck under, no line to cross, no blood pact, no official letter on fancy paper. They aren't always protracted, heavy with meaning.”
BACKGROUND
Born in Keene, New Hampshire, Lila she grew up surrounded by stories of the supernaturals living in her town.
As an only child, she always tried to surround herself with people hating the idea of being alone.
Her father was the calming presence in her life. He owned a small bookshop and he was the one that instilled her with her love for adventure and encouraged her imagination.
Her mother, on the other hand, was the free spirit that showed her love for photography always taking her out into the woods or on little adventures to find things to photograph.
At the age of 10, Lila realised how short life truly was. Losing her friend first, and then less than 5 years later; her mother.
While it took her a while to heal from the pain, she always reminded herself of her mother’s words: “You need to convince your mind that it has to let go... because your heart already knows how to heal.”
HEADCANONS
She talks too much when she gets nervous and sometimes it comes off as too blunt.
She is not afraid to do what it takes to protect those she cares about.
She loves photography and how she can capture a moment and show other people how she sees things.
One of the walls in her bedroom is covered in pictures of strangers, friends, food, nature, etc; anything that catches her attention or that she finds beautiful.
When she turned 18 she took a gap year to travel to any places she could on a limited budget.
She hides her emotions behind a smile a lot and bottles them up. The only way she knows of how to let out her emotions is by writing poetry.
“What a perfect collision of star it was
that came together
at just the right moment
at just the right time
to build the incredible thing that is you.”
