This shit isn’t fucking okay and if you have done this, or anything related to it to a writer, chances are that I hate you with every part of my being.
The fic that this person commented on was one that I work really, REALLY hard on, to make things accurate, because it includes a lot of things that I have not experienced. My writing process is: research, rough draft, fact checking, editing the rough draft, final bits of research to make sure everything fits, and then coming out with the final copy. And even with the multiple times I edit, errors in spelling, grammar and flow still slip through the cracks. So, I will shout this from the top of the Empire State Building until you get it:
YOU MUST BE PATIENT WITH WRITERS, BECAUSE WRITING SOMETHING TAKES A LOT OF TIME AND EDITING, NOT TO MENTION THAT THERE IS A LOT OF REAL LIFE ISSUES THAT CAN STOP THE UPDATES TO A FIC.
Give fanfic authors the same respect you’d give your favorite artists, PLEASE. Just like drawing takes a lot of time, and the process goes in steps, and you often have to be in a certain mood to draw certain things, WRITING IS THE SAME WAY.
It’s really common sense when it comes to posting a comment on a fic.
Does your comment threaten the writer? If yes, DON’T POST IT.
Does your comment seem like it would make the writer rush? (i.e “MORE NOW”, “YOU HAVE TO UPDATE TOMORROW OR I’LL DIE!!”) DON’T POST IT.
Does your comment disrespect them as a person, and disregard their hard work? DON’T POST IT.
IT’S AS SIMPLE AS THAT.
Please! Writers do NOT appreciate it when you rush them! It doesn’t make us do better, it makes the finished product worse!

If you shoplift don’t reblog posts about respecting retail workers doing holiday seasons.
It’s very clear you don’t respect them if you’re willing to ignore the fact that they say they risk being laid off, having fewer hours, etc. as a result of people shoplifting. You are fucking over someone’s livelihood.
I’ve started taking photos of stolen merchandise I find around our store (empty boxes, torn open packaging, etc).
That money literally comes out of my paycheck. I’m struggling to pay my mortgage and still be able to feed myself, let alone my bills, medication, or even just A Nice Thing every once in a while.
(All of that is from two or three days, by the way. I could go on.)
If you shoplift, or condone shoplifting, go fuck yourself. Don’t fucking pretend you care about respecting me or anyone else working retail this holiday season, or ever. You clearly don’t.
I’m currently doing security for a mall and I have to deal with shoplifters quite often. Lemme tell you, they are some if the most self absorbed and stupid assholes I’ve ever met.
They are typically fairly young, around 12-21, and are not in hard spots in life. The mall I work for stocks some fairly high end products, so these things that these shitheels take are not necessities. They’re things like iPhones, makeup, jewelry, expensive clothes, and the like. They don’t need these things, and we know this because after we arrest their dumb ass we check their record with the police to determine what we will do with them.
One case I had to handle was a group of girls stealing hundreds of dollars in goods from stores that their friends worked at. They exploited the trust of their friends so they could get some fucking yoga pants. Upon my arrival and speaking to the shopkeep, it was decided that I would let them off the hook so long as the merchandise was to be returned. They returned most of it, but STILL stole from their friend’s store. Last I heard, they got busted trying the same stunt elsewhere, one of these idiots is currently in County.
Many of them, once caught, are already running a record as long as my fucking arm, and here in Utah retail theft cam escalate to a felony. Meaning, after enough reported cases of a person stealing goods (either by arrest or if they have video evidence of the person stealing) or after a certain dollar amount stolen the crime is moved from misdemeanor to felony and is punished as such.
To you shoplifting shits out there, quit while you’re ahead. You are ruining people’s lives for trinkets and you will be caught sooner or later. You will ruin your lives for absolutely nothing, and you will always be known as a dishonest individual and barred from numerous employment opportunities as well as losing certain rights.
If your employer is taking stolen goods out of your paycheck, that is wage theft. That is your employer paying you less than you are owed, as punishment for something you did not do. Please explain to me how shoplifters are responsible for your boss violating labour law? Why are we implicitly defending the cruelty of a person in a position of power threatening subordinates for things beyond their control?
Except they don’t literally deduct it from the worker’s paycheck.
They give them fewer hours. Instead of giving them 40 hours in a week they may only get 16 hours that week as a result of people repeatedly shoplifting. Retail workers have repeatedly made posts about how shoplifters cause them to get laid off, get fewer hours, make it harder for them to pay their bills, etc. yet you still try to defend your own shitty behavior. It costs literally z e r o dollars to not shoplift and make shit harder for retail workers. Why is it that you’re so ready to make bad and rude customers take responsibility for making shit difficult for retail workers yet you can’t even do the same thing?
Not to mention y’all are stealing shit YOU DONT NEED when I worked at Target we didn’t have to deal with people stealing food, we dealt with people stealing literally dozens of electronics or, at one point, a woman walking out with at least $200 worth of clothes on her person. Fuck off with this “well it’s not MY fault” shit, you’re making my already hard retail job even harder
There’s also the problem of what an employee’s told. Wal-Mart for example, gives a course telling employees to inform their manager if they see obvious signs of hidden merchandise on a customer so the police can be called. When I did this (three teen boys whose backpacks had gone from flat to bulging after they went into a hard to see section of the store), my manager told me she couldn’t because she’d lose her job even if it turned out they were stealing. Wal-Mart literally told her they’d fire her for following the policy they laid out. Another manager was written up for stopping someone from stealing over $600 of fancy cuts of meat because ‘they were out the door’ and we were only supposed to stop them if they were still in the store. That and they don’t bother to prosecute minor shoplifters anymore. They’re let go with a ‘stern warning’. These kids know the higher ups in most corporations are toothless and that the threat of being sued for ‘victimizing’ someone has them muzzle their employees.

In Defense of NSFW Artwork
You know what I find frustrating?
Being willing and able to draw adult content to make some extra money, but too scared to actually be more open about it because I’ve presented myself as a ‘kid friendly’ artist over the years.
I’ve just always found that to be a serious hindrance on anyone that is cool with it, because it boils down to this idea that as an artist you should only be allow to draw either just clean stuff or just dirty stuff. I’ve made some posts about this a while back, and almost started offering NSFW stuff, but then turned back after a lot of thought, all because I know some people wouldn’t understand and automatically think I’m a ‘sicko’ for it.
The fact is it’s all about the artist; every situation is a case by case thing, but the masses are never going to get that, because it’s so much easier to just slap a label on someone or something and stick to it. Just because I draw cutesy stuff most of the time doesn’t mean that’s all I like or am willing to draw. Hell, I’ve drawn smut just to help myself relax.
I just wish I could be more open about it without it threatening my other work.
You just reminded me of a Professor I had when I took a “How to Draw Comics” course. She worked for Ralph Bakshi (makes not so child friendly stuff) at one point in her career and when she tried to apply for a job at Disney, the fact that she worked for Ralph Bakshi ended up getting her denied a position.
The sad part to me is, is that many treat artist like they shouldnt draw that stuff. Ever heard of the rugrats storyboard incident? While it wasn’t NSFW it was still a little off, the fact is is that it was drawn as a goof, not for a real episode. But people thought it was a story board for an adult episode in the making. This people wanted the animators fired. Plus it’s an also known fact that many kids cartoon artist drew dirty pictures of characters for their own accord, example the creators of Jessica rabbit often drew her in lewd settings. This example goes on for a lot of other artist to. So I think it’s silly when people give artist crap for wanting to draw nsfw stuff every now and then. It’s your account you should be allowed to post what you want.
Again, this just follows what I wrote in the original; how the majority will judge an artist for wanting to draw something adult orientated when they are used to seeing kid friendly stuff from them. It’s a narrow-minded concept that needs more attention, in my option.
I think you can take a step further and talk about how some people will say how adult artwork and porn in general can’t been seen as art, because it’s something ‘dirty’. I disagree; just because something was designed with sex as the main theme doesn’t make it any less then any other piece of art or expression. The depiction of sexual acts on old jars and paintings from ancient times shows that people were more open to that.
Pretending that sex as a theme for art shouldn’t exist seems like a produce of trying to keep everything ‘safe for the children’ or some shit.
It’s a damn shame as there is a lot of beauty can be found in the depiction on the human body for NSFW work; for example the Hilda pin-ups or just Pin-Ups in general and honestly, it’s not like you HAVE to show kids that kind of thing.
Frankly it’s a situation that should be left to the parent’s discretion, much like how video games and movies are rated. It’s the parents who are the ones who have to determine what’s good and what’s not good for their kids and those rating systems are pretty helpful guides but of course that responsibility seems to fall to the wayside in the parent’s POV.
It’s similar with writing too. Most of what I write is SFW or more action oriented, but I’ve written or have story ideas I want to write that aren’t. Yet I’m afraid if I put them up on my writing accounts someone will rip into me for writing ‘that kind of filth’. I’m more then a one dimensional thing that always does the same theme. I can write friendship, soft and cute romance, and acrobatic sex (straight or gay) depending on my mood and muse, but I’m afraid of offending someone because ‘it isn’t SFW and you’ve always done SFW’. And putting up warnings of ‘this isn’t friendship or chaste romance, this is R to NC17 material and may offend your delicate sensibilities’ doesn’t do much. They either don’t read the warning or don’t take it seriously, but then I as the author am the one who gets blamed for them disregarding the warning.
