Unnoticed (Mike Hanlon)
Requested by anon: “ Can I get a painfully sad Mike oneshot pls. I live for pain! ”
Words: 472 [not proofread]
A/N: this request has been sitting way too long in my ask and I’m sorry it took so long but I hope this is sad enough! don’t kill me pls!
The first time my heart broke was when Stan ran up to me with the widest grin. He bounced around excitedly and shook my shoulders.“Oh my god, Mike!” Bill had asked him out on a date. Total excitement radiated off his body and he couldn’t stop smiling the whole day. He kept asking me what he should wear or if he should style his hair but my answers went unnoticed; he was too busy thinking about a certain boy with a stutter.
The second time my heart broke was when Ben told me about Stan making things official with Bill. They were an item now. Every time the group of friends would hang out, he had to watch the two of them being affectionate. Whether it would be stealing kisses or just sitting together with big smiles lighting up their features, not being able to tear their eyes from each other. “I love you, Bill “ The frown that graced my own features went unnoticed.
The third time my heart broke was when I had to watch Stan walk down the aisle and say yes to marrying the boy at the end of it. When Bill had announced their engagement our friends had all gotten extremely excited and happy for the two boys. They had all participated in the wedding plans, Richie even wrote a song for them that they could dance to for their first dance. When Stan asked if I was happy for him, I said yes ”I’m really happy for you, Stan“. My lies went unnoticed.
The final time, my heart not only broke but it killed me mentally. ”You haven't answered my calls or text, Stan. Where have you been?“ ”I don’t really have time for you right now, Mike“. It’s been two years since that conversation. In that time we haven’t spoken once. Not only did I lose the only person I’ve ever loved but I lost my best friend. My love for him went unnoticed.
I had slowly cut myself off from the rest of the losers in those two years. Though ironically Bill was the only one who had checked up on me every 3 months. The only company I got was from the boy who had created a life with the person I loved but he himself also stopped coming around eventually. I was now all alone. I had no one.
In a sick twist of fate I had been diagnosed with cancer. A fatal tumor in my heart. Life had a sick sense of humour and I was the only one laughing. Not only had my heart been broken by love it was now literally going to be to death of me. Though I didn’t want to wait around until my treatment would stop working. I wasn’t going to let something that killed me once kill me again. This time I was going to be the one in control.
The suicide of Mike Hanlon went unnoticed.
