I found out I was dreaming
The me in the dream,
Was glad to see it all
Blog dedicated to Korekiyo Shinguuji's sister / Miyadera Shinguuji
Focused on sharing fanart, headcanons, fanfic, etc.
To keep things simple, I will mostly be referring to her as Miyadera/Miya. It's my personal favorite fan name for her (But I'm also partial to the names Sumire and Fumika.)
I'm mostly here to combat a lot of the hate she gets and explore more complex readings of her character beyond just "she is an abuser, lol". If anything about this character upsets or triggers you, please block this blog and move on. I will not be engaging in any discourse.

The ask box is: OPEN
There is one person running this blog (saturn, he/they pronouns please!) and I'm 27. I currently have no interest in recruiting other moderators.
If I reblog anything of yours that you don't want shared on this blog for whatever reason, please send me an ask and I'll be happy to remove it.
I plan on tagging all ships for Miya that I personally post or reblog.
My main blog is @scarachilde and my art blog is @uraalice I've got a lot of Miya fanart on there, but I plan on reblogging that on here as well!
I love your blog! My opinion on his sister has been ambiguous this whole time. But seeing your posts and different viewpoints made me appreciate her more! But I’m surprised that some reasons against her are just baseless claims; is it that hard reading the dialogue or even paying attention to the class trial?!
Aw this means a lot to me!
Honestly, being a fan of her and keeping my finger on the pulse of the fandom opinion of her feels like staring into the abyss. A lot of people don't care about the actual text and even the fan wiki has lies on it.
I believe people just hate the idea of a character they like being an participant in things they find uncomfortable. People try to take everything they find unsavory about Korekiyo and push it onto Sister or blame it for her completely.
Korekiyo is an indepedent individual and danganronpa has such a straightforward narrative structure that if we were supposed to be believe that Sister was totally evil and responsible for everything it'd be obvious.
i love yr blog so much , its always great to see fans that treat miya with nuance and further analysis in a world where people shove her aside as a one-note evil abusive sister in favour of making korekiyo seem less flawed - your art of her is very beautiful and i love it to bits , have a very good day
@creaturesofgreed
thank you so much for this lovely message! the response to this blog always makes me happy because it shows there are other people who like Miya and want to see people explore her character! I hope you have a great day too!
Anytime I get Korekiyo critical I fear people think I hate him. This fear is probably unfounded, but I want to make it clear I think both siblings are flawed people and I LOVE them
Korekiyo is not just a misogynist because he murders women, but I also think we need to explore how his sister exists in his own mind as his lover, source of comfort, and not much else.
Like the way he reflects on and presents her is basically the way a narrative talks about a dead wife character whose only traits are "pretty" and "dead".
Post-mortem she's loved more like an idealized figure or object than a person.
Where is her complexity as a person Korekiyo...
Surely a man who fixates on what behavior is proper for women wouldn't erase details about his sister that don't fit his narrative ideal.... Surely not...
the act of only murdering wwomen is in fact misogynistic. the act of specifically targeting wwomen based on his flawwed judgement of their characters is in fact misogynistic. i made this image a wwhile ago
still angry about the danganronpa discord server that said anyone interested in exploring Sister as a character is a "freak" and insisted that Korekiyo has DID
If Korekiyo really saw Sister during his near-death experience, how do you think she felt to see him again?
Whew, okay this is a tough one because my views on real Sister vs. tulpa Sister have been heavily informed by my own headcanons, time spent writing her, and really fun fan content that makes the two opposing forces.
NONSENSE UNDER READ MORE, also silent hill 2 spoilers
I own a doujin that blends a bit of pre-game Korekiyo with in-game Korekiyo to propose the idea that he was influenced not by a full tulpa, but a slight vision/hallucination of an idealized version of Sister while the original was still alive. The real version of Sister was in the final stages of her disease, so she was pretty messy and hostile. This hallucination of Sister, by contrast, acting more idealized and comforting- though she did actually encourage Korekiyo to kill the real Sister. My Japanese is really rough, so my translation of it isn't the best, but it reads as a mercy kill but also a way to replace the real Sister with this new version of her.
And I have to be honest I've always loved the idea of Korekiyo drifting apart from Sister in the last leg of her life or potentially killing her just before the disease could. (CONTROVERSIAL I KNOW). This is specifically because the tulpa is SO comforting and agreeable while Ghost Sister literally kills him on sight. I like to assume Ghost Sister is the closest thing we got to her actual personality, and there HAS to be a reason she's resentful.
We could also look at the fact that Korekiyo's love hotel show that he doesn't value the consent of others, we never get Sister's input on their relationship, and that we shouldn't take Korekiyo's words at face value- but that's me FULLY diverting from the topic.
That is to say, sorry for the ramble.
I do think that, informed by all of that, if the real Sister had appeared before Korekiyo- in my mind, the encounter might be more hostile?
Even if he didn't Silent Hill 2 her, I like to think her final words were not "Kill 100 girls for me". I also do think she DID she him as a friend, but he was the one who made the distinction between lover, brother, and friend. Again, because we only get his input on the situation.
In the end, she would probably still treasure the chance to see him one more time, but also scold him a bit to set him on the right path. I imagine she was clinging to life and her memory carrying on through him just before her death, but maybe her spirit would be mellowed out. She might even encourage him to move on, but I could see him rejecting that- not wanting to lose the version of her in his head. This would lead to the much more biased towards him tulpa manifesting.
All of this coming back to his execution where maybe she thought exorcising him was actually freeing him from his memory of her. Or maybe she had gotten more resentful seeing his actions.
Sorry this is so unprovoked but every time I see someone going above and beyond in their hatred for sister my brain immediately jumps to the Confucian family, chronic illness in buddhism and shintoism, women’s place in shintoism (and japan and WORLDWIDE IN GENERAL), Japanese Buddhism’s place in ww2 and it’s like, well you wanna bring reality and real family dynamics into this well sure let’s bring reality into this. This is so dumb sorry I just wanted to say this feel free to ignore my incoherent not even well articulated rant :,)
Not unprompted at all! I honestly wish people would do a few seconds more thinking when it came to her and different contexs you can read her in beyond just well evil abuser woman. Misogyny is like totally off the table talking about her both in and out of universe it's ridiculous.
I don't know if you've already said so or not, but what do you think Sister's ultimate talent would be? I assume she wanted to be an anthropologist, but couldn't because she was sick (and then there's the whole "she pushed kiyo to study anthropology so it could be inferred she wanted to live through him") but idk aside from Could've Been The Ultimate Anthropologist, what other talent could she have?
I haven't shared a talent for her because I've got a few ideas in mind! In things like my roleswap au, there's an assumption that her health has improved significantly.
My initial idea for her was connected to Japanese tea ceremonies. They have a lot of cultural significance and would involve skills with story telling and floral arrangements. Anything with a traditional vibe seems to suit her.
Though my most recent idea has been Ultimate Rakugoka. I feel like a storyteller also really suits her since sharing her interests did help get Kiyo into anthropology like you said.
I haven't seen too many other talents for her, so I'd love to hear what others have in mind for her too!
