House passes bill banning coverage of trans health care through Medicaid, CHIP & Obamacare - LGBTQ Nation

The bill passed by just one vote. Every Democrat voted against it while almost every Republican supported it.

A provision in the bill […] bans Medicaid (a joint federal-state program that provides health care to people with low incomes) and CHIP (a program that provides health care to children and pregnant people with low incomes) from reimbursing for gender-affirming care (including puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgery) for trans people of all ages.

Another provision in the budget bill prohibits plans offered on the Affordable Care Act (ACA, or Obamacare) exchanges from covering services related to a “gender transition procedure,” according to the Congressional Equality Caucus. This will also affect health care plans that aren’t offered on the exchanges but that are required to meet the same coverage standards.

The bill ultimately passed early this morning by one vote, 215 to 214.

The president provided many of the ideas for the bill and has been supportive of it, making it likely that he will sign it into law if it passes Congress.

I don't think my parents are aware that what they did was abuse. in fact I think one of the reasons they abused me was because they lacked the self-awareness, introspection, and education needed to realize what they were doing counted as abuse. if they did have more self awareness &etc, they would have likely stopped. it is not productive to insist they woke up in the mornings with the intent to psychologically torture a kid for no reason, when that is self-evidently not the case or within their motivations.

I'm speaking annecdotally here but I think many cases of abuse are like this. I think when reckoning with the reality of how abuse functions in our society, you must come to terms with the mundanity of it including the fact that abusive people are primed to overlook the harm of their own actions through the shield of mundanity and (lack of) intent.

The film’s most present onscreen antagonist is OSHA violations.

I think out of convenience and fear, many leftists have downplayed or dismissed the role and influence of far right politics on mainstream bourgeois politics and have thus relegated many of these figures and ideologies to the fringes even while they normalize themselves.

Many people refuse to directly confront what they see as existential questions or threats. Even when they admit it’s a problem, such as climate change, there’s still a psychological need to downplay or dismiss the issue through wishful thinking (“we’ll figure it out before it gets too bad,” “we won’t face very dire consequences in our lifetimes,” etc) that I argue reflects a deep seated fear the skeptic wishes to repress, because if it’s true and they are individually powerless against it, well that’s a scary prospect huh?

This has been the leftist reaction to fascism since 2016 at least.
