Woah cool time. Edward Said’s Reflections on Exile & Other Essays as a very readable pdf. It contains a lot of his casual critical essays, a lot of him at his best. It can be a fun and educational one to just kinda poke around in v exciting
As a necessary companion here is a similarly good PDF of Said’s The Politics of Dispossession: the Struggle for Palestinian Self-Determination, 1969-1994 which similarly collects his occasional political articles etc

Simple
by Raymond Carver
A break in the clouds. The blue outline of the mountains. Dark yellow of the fields. Black river. What am I doing here, lonely and filled with remorse?
I go on casually eating from the bowl of raspberries. If I were dead, I remind myself, I wouldn’t be eating them. It’s not so simple. It is that simple.
“Where Does Such Tenderness Come From?”
by Marina Tsvetaeva tr. Ilya Kaminsky and Jean Valentine
Where does such tenderness come from? These aren’t the first curls I’ve wound around my finger — I’ve kissed lips darker than yours.
The sky is washed and dark (Where does such tenderness come from?) Other eyes have known and shifted away from my eyes.
But I’ve never heard words like this in the night (Where does such tenderness come from?) with my head on your chest, rest.
Where does this tenderness come from? And what will I do with it? Young stranger, poet, wandering through town, you and your eyelashes — longer than anyone’s.
this was written 100 years ago but it reads like a post i would make on my tumblr blog in 2026
