Defrosting Gwen Stacy: How John Romita Sr. transformed Spider-Man’s college girlfriend from a short-tempered classmate to a sweet love inter
Hot take. Gwen Stacy was better as an ice princess.
Felt like she had actual personality to her. After that she becomes the standard demure love interest with 2 decent interactions. Telling Aunt May to stop smothering Peter and later, getting mad at the rally for calling Peter a chicken. Gwen Stacy become really flat as a character after Ditko. I would not be able to tell you what my favorite Gwen Stacy story is cause she is mostly just there until Capt. Stacy dies, and then she gets a little more personality for becoming so fiercly anti-Spider-Man.
I also liked the Ditko Ice Queen persona. For the most part I like Romita's takes on the characters more than Ditko, except Gwen Stacy.
Gwen's agency and personality was gradually stripped away by writers over time, reducing her to just "The Girlfriend (tm)" who was mostly just known for "Dating Peter Parker", and eventually "Hating Spider-Man" after her father died, before she eventually got 'Fridged at the Bridge' purely to "advance" Peter Parker and to 'teach Peter a lesson" on responsibility, making Gwen not much more than a 'Plot device' as the (retro) "OG Refrigerator Girlfriend".
The writer's description of Gwen (and her lack of agency) after they killed her off was explained as being "The Perfect Girlfriend (tm)" which was eventually admitted as an excuse for not knowing 'what to do with her', as they wrote her into a 'dead end'.
And now Gwen is put on an impossible pedestal for MJ and other love interests are supposed to live up to, because Marvel Editorial refuses to take off their rose tinted glasses and views Gwen as this "pure perfect girlfriend" that Gwen never was.
More adaptations need to lean into the Tsundere trope for her
he's very sleepy
I haven't read the manga yet 💔 I miss Kaiman
I found that stock image on Pinterest and it reminded me of Gwen and Peter... Their teenage versions because the stock image fits with my AU where they are academic rivals in high school.

Li'l Petey x2
1963 Peter is so dear to me. Also Li'l Petey is adorable.
I'm not sure why I'm doing this lmao
I'm really stressed rn. Also I'm pro-choice, I thought that Bart shirt was weirdly funny, so I edited Glep into it
the episode where Mr. Boss sews his head onto Charlie's body used to scare me a lot when I was a child
he is proud of that outfit
1963 Spider-Man/Peter Parker like nobody gaf but me. I've been thinking about Steve Ditko a lot.
