It had been an accident that led to him triggering his own curse, a mistake that heâd regretted every day since it happened. Knowing minutes after it was done exactly what the next coming months would led to and be the setup for the rest of his life as a wolf. He only cycled through the memories once  as she recounted her story - now wasnât the time to think about himself, not when heâd dealt with the change so many times over. At her second wave of tears waved, he soothingly ran a hand up and down her back. âShh, shh, itâll be alright. Weâll find you more support and Iâm not going anywhere.â
âAccidents happen, Lin. Unfortunately, for you and I both, it set something in motion we couldnât stop or take back.â He pulled back slightly to look her in the eyes, his hands still on her arms. âIn this town, youâll learn there are plenty of folks who didnât meant to kill somebody but did and ended up in the same predicament. Itâs a common theme actually but coming here was probably the best thing.â There were so many people in Hollow Grove alone who wouldnât shy away from sharing their stories or ways to handle things better - as much support as heâd found in Nashville after settling, itâd never compare to the support of the Greyson pack. âWaitâŚdid you handle your first shift all alone?â
For the first time since the night she'd triggered her curse, Lindy felt safe. Maybe it was the fact that there was a bit of her former life there with her, holding her or maybe it was finally someone telling her that it would be alright. She didn't dwell on it too much, instead nodding and giving Chase a grateful look when he told her there would be support. Something she'd never gone looking for before, but needed as much as air now. She might have been a lone wolf while human, but ironically she couldn't do it as an actual wolf.Â
She didn't know if his words were terrifying or reassuring. Plenty of folks might not have meant to kill anyone, but he didn't say that not all of the triggered wolves had had innocent intentions. It was a worry she'd have to set aside for now, and revisit when she had the luxury of picking and choosing how she got help. She looked at him fully when he asked if she'd shifted alone. "I thought locking myself in my apartment would be okay. You always seemed okay around the full moon... And my parents were always off on some drug fuel vacation when it came time to that. I had no idea. I woke up in an alley covered in garbage and who knows what else... my apartment was wrecked to hell and the news was talking about a wolf loose downtown... that's when I left. I knew I couldn't handle this on my own."
